I did not see the car so I am just going from what people say here, my point was if there are gaps that is bad, if they are not there than yes its a bad ass car.

Thank you very much. I am very happy it's back together. Kenny, Stan, Travis and Kenny Sr had a busy weekend the Saturday before the show. The truck front end was apart and the engine, radiator and a bunch of stuff didn't get back on till Wednesday. The guys wanted to make sure the truck was at the show so people could see it.

So Kudo's to them for working there Day Jobs and then spending all night getting the truck back together

It was awesome walking into the show and running into it in the parking lot.

^^^What he said. Like I said before, the gaps are pretty tight, and the rear door/quarter gap is show car tight, with no chipping - after evidently being thoroughly wrung out (judging from company history and pics posted).

I was asking if the slightly wider gap at the top is what he was referring to, not pointing it out as bad. He didn't specify what he thought was wrong. I posted the pic again so everyone could see, here in the middle of the discussion, what the car looked like. I wish I would have taken the pic of what I saw when I went back to look at the gaps, after the first discussion here. Would definitely have been worth a thousand words here.

THE OWNER OF THE OTHER 69 CAMARO, WITH THE BAD GAPS:) I didn't want to defend my car but I feel I need to. First, I built this car in my garage by myself on nights and weekends with the sole intention of selling it. When I arrived at G.G. and parked in the upper lot a G.G. rep told me to bring the car down to the SMOY lot. I knew I couldn't compete and didn't want to compete with these cars but knew it would be good exposure to help sell it. I didn't know that anyone would have the time to take measurements, write them down and then go home and post them on the forum. I know I have some gaps that I need address. In the final assembly I could not duplicate from the first mock up. As far as the other cars go in my opinion there were some amazing builds there. Good luck with your car gaps AJ.

P.S thanks Matt for the kind words

I know, I know, it's none of my business and I have no right sticking my nose in it - but I just had to see what the Rad Rides F87 would look like with a little less glass. Since it uses 2010 Camaro tail lights, door handle styling, etc, I brought the glass to body ratio closer to that car's...

No disrespect to Troy or his crew intended. He's one of my top three favorite builders, and I have nothing but respect for the guy and his shop. Just having a little fun with Photoshop. I went back and took this picture Sunday just so I could do this. It was bugging me all night Saturday. :D

camcojb 07-12-2010 03:34 PM

I have not seen Mikes 69 but I've seen enough DSE builds to know they build them to a very high level. I also have seen SMOTY winning cars before and after being driven, and the gaps and panel flatness changes when you drive a car.

Mike had his Camaro out at the Motorstate Challenge running all out that weekend. He gets a ton of credit in my book for thrashing on such a high end car.

Bad94 07-12-2010 04:30 PM

I was only there saturday. Got to talk to Kenny Davis and Rodger for a few mins, super nice guys, willing to bull**** about cars anytime of the day.

Rodger, kenny might have spent $100 on drinks but how much did his wife keep from the change? LOL

Did anyone take time and look at the 67 camaro that was copper color with the LS3 with a blower that was parked in the SMOY section? Brad is a member on here, simple build, He only entered SMOY so he could beat the **** out of the car on the auto X.

Martys truck, WOW, that all i can say.

Scott, you are a stand up guy and it takes ba... to confront the critics. You have nothing to apologize for. Your car was with all of us at the track and proved itself as a true example of the challenge and what it is all about. I never remember seeing those "gaps" in Michigan. I did not and never would have thrown you under the bus. In a way I wish you would have been selected and we would have had the autocross so that everyone would have been more confused. At least this time you would not have been looking at my front grill.

Scott, remember several months ago when an unnamed person was publishing that he was positive that my car burned up in my driveway. Unsubstantiated info combined with a real negative attitude and now you have the same situation of defending yourself for no apparent reason. What was the purpose of this? It was good we were parked side by side for the initial line up. Sorry we did not have much time to talk at Columbus. Michael

Thanks brother - The guys that worked on this truck are all awesome.

I need to call you and tell you about the new build plan on the camaro project. It has a bunch of Kenny influence.

Simple and clean - meant to be driven

cluxford 07-12-2010 05:48 PM

As an outsider living in Australia, lots of talk on here about good car, bad car, good show, bad show, who you know, what you know...

But seriously, I've had to replaced 3 keyboards from the drool just looking at pics.

We are lucky to see 5-10 top top top shelf cars in Oz, and rarely more than 3-4 new ones each year, and then there is really only 1 or 2 major shows you can see them at, and never ever as close up and driven as you guys get...

Keep the pics coming of these amazing machines and the amazing people who have built em, we'll sit back here over the pond and keep dreaming of that much sublime metal in one place at the one time....

syborg tt 07-12-2010 05:57 PM

okay guys it's time to be nice and only say good things about cars

As someone said earlier in a post, the best thing about these shows is hanging with your friends and making new friends.

My only complaint about the show was the rain and next year they need to have an accoustic set vs a full band. It's really hard to talk with your friends when your looking at the top 10.

but that is just my opinion and it has nothing to do with the cars. Odd huh

coolwelder62 07-12-2010 06:02 PM

You know it's funny the guys that bag on some elses car never shows up with a real nice car himself. That's why I stay at the autocross all day. The looky lues dont ever come around there. There too busey judging all the real nice cars.Telling all their beer gusling buddies I would have built it differant than that.IMHO any car that was in SMOY area should have been there.I am glad I did not have to pick a winner. So if you had a car there CONGRAT's. If were there just looking dont bag.

RECOVERY ROOM 07-12-2010 07:35 PM

That's a good way to put it!!.....

E.rodz 07-12-2010 08:56 PM

thanks to everyone for posting info and picts.some day maybe we can go to this show anyone have any autocross action shots?hats off to all people that take the time to build such quality cars to inspire all of us.!

toddshotrods 07-13-2010 04:55 AM

I can't believe all this happened just from a few of us posting pictures of the show, for those who couldn't be there! Live and learn. I was naive enough to believe people would just enjoy the show, and we'd all sing our way off stage into hot rod bliss. I haven't been frequenting forums like I used to, and forgot...

wiedemab 07-13-2010 05:41 AM

I had a great time at the show. I wish they could have held off long enough for it to dry up and run the AutoX on Friday - Oh well. It was great to see everyone and catch up.

We normally have a big group of people with us, but this year it was just Dad and I.

There were some awesome cars there. I kept gravitating toward Poteet's '66 Chevelle. The styling of that car just tripped my trigger!!!! There were too many nice cars to mention them all....................

I think I said this last year too, but - - - - Columbus Goodguys is somewhat motivating for me, but at the same time frustrating that I'm still working on my project(s).

kennyd 07-13-2010 05:53 AM

i think of the top 5 ,4 were perfect picks . i did think the 54 vette was a contender for it . BUT you have to know that there are 15 guys that pick the top 5 and 15 guys that have different taste of cars . 15 guys that may not be builders or pro touring car lovers , they are magazine editors, vendors, goodguys staff and others . i think goodguys needs all the credit in the world for having a event like this .

now i do think the best car did not win .
rings fairlane was the best car .
burmans camaro , lots of metal work .
mannings camaro nice ,nice car
roadster shop cuda killer car also
d@d mustang nice car also .

now streetrod of the year , hands down should have been the miller truck !

Agreed. The event is awesome. Regardless of who shoulda, woulda, coulda, the competitions are as well. The bottom line is it draws incredible talent into one place where people can freely enjoy and appreciate it.

kennyd 07-13-2010 06:40 AM

Otherwise, all built at home in under 18 months! Pontiac guys might have noticed the vents look just a little different and it's because I designed them to be smaller and more subtle and reveal actual vents and Bob fabbed them out of sheetmetal per the design along with the hood extractors in fiberglass, metal spoiler, front valance, taillights, license plate relocation, bumper mods and a bunch of other subtle stuff. He missed the Top 5 but got a shoot for PHR on Saturday night so that was a nice silver lining to his weekend.

Thanks for jumping in Jason. I was straining my eyes to see the credit board and who the builder was. Please relay to Bob that his car absolutely stunning. I'm a huge, HUGE fan of early 2nd gens and have wanted a 72 forever. Those subtle mods are EXACTLY my style of build. It's refreshing to see a nicely done red muscle car again. Charcoal trim was cool too, not overly understated and worked well as an accent.

I really like the one piece nose...the factory gap between the upper and lower section is insane on those. Hats off to you guys!

I looked at that thing about 20 different times. It was killer. The color was awesome and the body work was straight as an arrow. The stance was perfect and interior was nuts. DVD in the head rests and speakers overhead. It was cool. I will post up some pics later from home. Now about the door gaps on it....

How many vehicles did they have there?! Last year's SMOY, the street rod, a Suburban, all those chassis, and wasn't there an unfinished older (50s) pickup at their booth Sunday? How many rigs do they travel with?
