Wheel it over here and we'll fire my sandblaster up and take care of it next time:lol:
Looking good. I should have my driver's tub installed in the car by tomorrow. I got it and the brackets I made cleaned, primed and ready to go.:woot: |

Waiting for pictures on your tub and brackets, should be sweet!!!!! |
Well, it shouldn't take a day or so to get here:lol:
If all goes well, they will be installed tomorrow |
Making a mess
sanding the quarters! I didn't get the door prepped, IAW POR15 if you let it dry overnite you have to rough the skin with a scotch brite and then you can topcoat. I'll rough it up this week and take it to work and get some black on the door.
So plan B, get the quarters down to metal and see if there are any surprises under all that paint. Chemical and mechanical stripping started and I almost finished in one day ... :D Just some touch up left and when I get the wheel houses going and the patch I can start body working the rear half. http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/4644/120401196.jpg Needed two rounds to get it down to metal http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/4295/120401207.jpg Still needs some work http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/7375/120401202.jpg Driver's side looking better So ... not too exciting but it's progress, I put the trunk lid on for trial fit - pretty good fit. Not bad for 45 year old quarters  Thanks for looking |
Look's Good, I am lovin your progress.

Update 4/3
Well I'm glad I didn't put away the heater, it was snowing this morning and I needed it tonite in the garage. Finished the quarter panels and did both door jambs. While I was removing the paint on the rocker panel I came across a hole?:( I think while I was discing the hole came through, there is a repair I need to do - glad I found it now!
http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/3228/120403213.jpg Cleaned both door jambs http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/555/120403212.jpg Hole that needs attention  http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/7194/120403215.jpg My Great Dane came out to see what I'd been doing all nite. SonarChief do you need a rotisserie?
The car is looking good, Lots of great metal work. Thanks Kirk |

I have to build a frame jig first and weld the cowl and the tubs in first and then she'll be ready for a rotisserie to do the underside. |

Door looking better

Scuffed the POR15 and put two coats chassis black on the drivers door, came out great  I'm glad I took the skin off and refinished the inside ... don't have to worry about rust no more. Hey is some car porn! http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/8531/120406228.jpg Looking better! http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/5959/120406230.jpg Nice sheen and protected from rusting  Thanks for looking, I'm out to patch that hole in the rocker panel. |
Garage time ...
Nothing special just patched the rocker panel hole, still need to finish it tomorrow, that's another day.
Patched the hole  http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/237/120406233.jpg Thanks for looking! |
the pics are great, what are you using to clean the door jambs,
I need to redo the Nova body, I like how yours is coming out! I like the RS look, my car will be getting the RS upgrade, have all the parts! |
Quote:
Good luck with your 68RS. |
thanks, I'll look into those, my cars a SS, now a SS/RS, I like the flat grill look,
|
The 67 bug eye grill is a good looking grill as well. I'm not a fan of the standard 68 and 69 grill though. Of course, the RS is my favorite. I'd keep yours the way you want it.
I'll have some updates early this week. I have those templates made as well. I'll tell you though, those brackets made the mini tub install a pain in the big ole rear end. I think the passenger side will go a whole lot smoother now that I have it all figured out.:_paranoid |

I have welded in the frame closeout and the shock tower closeout. The frame closeout gave me a few fits though with the bracing I put inside the frame. I had to set the frame closeout inside the frame to get the tub to fit better. The result of doing that forced me to notch the closeout around the nuts welded on the bracket inside the frame. That left a hole in the closeout around the nuts. I have to weld a piece over that hole to finish the frame closeout.
I spent the weekend doing that and welding in metal in areas that I cut too much out. I have been looking at the exposed rocker area wondering what I want to do there. I was over on Detroit Speed site early this morning looking through the projects and saw where they closed that area out as well before installing the new tub. I like that idea because the new tub doesn't want to fit all the way up against the back of the rocker like I want it to, so I'll follow that idea. I used 11 gauge plate to make all the brackets and closeout pieces. It is quite thick, but I feel it has greatly strengthened the frame. Sure feels a lot stronger and stiffer in that area now. |

Yeah, it was Stuart Adams blue 69 Camaro. Go to page 4 of the build and you'll find the pictures there of the mini tub install.
I'm working on updates. My week is not, as always, working out as planned, but I definitely want to get this driver's side tub finished before the weekend. Super Chevy Show is in town this coming weekend and I'm taking off Friday to go to it, keeping my weekend clear for project time. I have a bunch of new parts trickling in this week too, so stay tuned:cool: Also, I'm kicking around a neat mod to my rear tail panel to deal with exhaust exiting:unibrow: |
Quote:
I'll check your site for the finished tub .... by the weekend? |
Man you did miss out on that deal! MCB has the best price on them.
I'm hoping I can get this tub done before the weekend. I didn't make it home yesterday till 5, so no time to work on the car. I was expecting some half days at work this week:mad: I'm picking up something later this week to build a new tool for my car. I had built one before and someone came by and made an offer I couldn't refuse, so now back to build another one. You'll know what it is by the weekend. :) |

Too cold in the garage so I'm using the laundry room to paint the patches with POR15. I'll do the rocker and inner hinge when the weather warms up, maybe later this week? Got the patch rough cut and I'll finish the welding after area is POR'd. http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/3315/120415256.jpg Used the disc to loosen the rust http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/8153/120415246.jpg First coat of POR15 .... much better! http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/3682/120415247.jpg Ready for POR15when it warms up! Update 4/21
Been busy at work mostly. Did get some time with the Camaro today, working on the fit of the trunk lid and the rear valence.
Got the frame built for the frame jig, with borrowed 3X3 square stock from my father's business (junk pile) welded a 4X6 frame today and put some wheels on ... I know it's OVERKILL  But beggars kant be choosy!!!! The frame may out weight the car  Anyway ... it's progress, I'll work on the uprights next weekend and get it under the car, a mobile car - yeah! http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/9369/120421258.jpg Sanded the trunk and the valence http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/695/120421259.jpg The frame for the car started Thanks for looking, Michael |
WOW, just went through the whole thread! This is a lesson in persistence! keep up the great work

I forgot to post this picture last nite ... if anyone is wondering I used Eastwood Fast Etch (same stuff I used on the rusted rotors) and it's reusable - just filter out the gunk and keep going. http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/4641/120422321.jpg Fast Etch with zinc coating Thanks |
