I am playing with a rosebud torch and chromoly tubing to fab a hidden roll bar up the sides, across the front and across the rear. Also trying not to burn the house down :)
You can probably see in your 1800 that there isn't a lot of space along the A pillar to add additional structure so I am working on a solution there. There was never a lot of structure in that roof:

I will let you know what the glass costs after we get one done, they can probably run two after the blank has been completed as easy as making one.

Royalworks 03-22-2013 04:04 PM

I would think you could cut into part of the A pillar and recess it but I just went and looked at it and there isn't much on an A pillar to begin with. Might have to be some smaller tubing that goes there. If its smaller I would gusset the sides to the pillar to help with strength. Who else has some input on this?

Practice

I have been working on my metal forming skills using hand tools. There are a few parts I need to fabricate for the rear to complete the body widening. This was a practice piece from today, have to trash it and try again:

More practice required :) This is 16 ga.

The work you've done on this is amazing. I love the renderings.

With the tempered roof glass I am having made for my P1800 build, I am only really removing the actual roof skin, and then boxing out the roof rails, because the basic structure for that style glass is there. I plan on leaving the upper back window/roof cross brace in place, and having the full roof glass conceal it, by using the same ceramic coating that is being used on our black out border and dot mattrix pattern. A quality Tempered glass, along with quality urethane, will actually add rigidity to the body structure...

I really think that Vox came up with the glass roof design by looking at the factory roof structure, because you can really see the possibilities after the headliner is removed. By boxing all the factory roof rails out, you can then add the flanges for the glass to adhere to, so it wont be that complicated of a process.

Car's looking good! I'm impressed with your skills and what you're learning. Good luck!

Royalworks 07-15-2013 08:29 AM

I really want the glass for my car. I have been messing with my car lately and im excited

daemon2 07-17-2013 10:15 AM

I should have some updates soon! :)

lazy summer

I find it difficult to get much garage time in the summer, kids out of school, and lots of family time. I have a few small updates.

baby twins :)
http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...GT%20twins.jpg

I am busy planning plumbing for Turbosmart waste and BOVs with Holley controls.
http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...0wastegate.jpg

I went with oil and water cooled, a few more stainless lines to run.
http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...T%20GTK550.jpg

I love the look of the ported shroud, maybe there is clear silicone intake tubing out there?
http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...GTK%20port.jpg

Stainless header rough in:
http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...s%20header.jpg

And some progress on the body:
Its hard to see in this image but I have modified the door handles, all the mechanical linkages have been removed and I have an electronic switch that operates door release actuators.
http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...ndle%20mod.jpg

Still repairing panels, this is the front quarter near the hood opening, previous repairs added in inches of bondo and layers of repair. All gone now.

more stainless

Still working on the turbo headers, will move into the plumbing and controls soon.
A few pics:
http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...20d%20side.jpg

Drivers side, I am mounting the turbo's back near the firewall, the headers ended up looking like ram horns. The engine bay is tight so this is where I found room.

http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...nt%20dside.jpg
I am supporting the header near the turbo with a support welded to the bottom and bolted to the block, also have hangars for the turbo that are not mounted yet.

http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...transition.jpg

http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...0collector.jpg
my welds are more consistent now, stainless is nice to work with.

Royalworks 09-16-2013 06:37 PM

Its been a while since i have been on here. Pretty awesome stuff!

WSSix 09-16-2013 07:02 PM

Headers look fantastic!

daemon2 09-24-2013 07:50 PM

handle mod

I have removed all the mechanical bits from the door handles and am replacing it with electronics. I modified the door handles to accept the illuminated buttons that actuate the door latches.

This last image was a test fit before all the machining was complete.

WSSix 09-25-2013 01:52 AM

That's a neat idea!

MacPiper 10-03-2013 07:03 AM

Great idea with the door handles. Will they work with a proximity key to allow activation?

Thanks, and yes they exterior release is only active when the alarm is deactivated. It could work the same way with a prox key

Slowly putting together the firewall and planning plumbing.

Getting closer now. Looks great!

Royalworks 11-02-2013 03:03 PM

What are you doing for the brake booster? Glad that ugly thing is gone off the firewall. Btw I got mine up and running so I can enjoy it. I can't wait to see this one done or even just more project pics.

LS7 Z/28 11-02-2013 04:52 PM

Wild build, it's truly unique. Looks great thanks for sharing.

daemon2 01-03-2014 11:03 AM

2014!

I have not updated for a while and have lost track of the work I have completed... still lots to do.
I am working out stainless hard line plumbing and having a terrible time finding fittings and matching threads. Still welding up the 3" stainless exhaust and should have more pics of that soon.

For now:
http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...hood%20fit.jpg
cut the hood and started mocking up a hood scoop

http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...20GT%20rad.jpg
rad is in, fan is in, working on a grill and more metal fab on the body

http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...0GT%20side.jpg
test fit of the dash

http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...rbo%20hood.jpg
you can see the turbo tucked in there, working on firewall, air cleaner location and cold/hot side plumbing

http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...20GT%20top.jpg

http://www.daemoncustomauto.com/P180...test%20fit.jpg

comments appreciated, thanks for looking.

I love this build. I don't care if it's slower moving. I'm patient. Keep up the great work!

DETON8R 01-04-2014 07:51 AM

DAMN!! Awesome progress!! The car is getting a nose JOB!!

I'd like to see a few more photos of that. And any issues you ran into doing it.

Keep the photos coming.

2keaton11 01-04-2014 08:38 AM

Nice car man you have some good skills for first timing alot of it. The rendering is sweet, had to re read your whole thread but well worth it. Wish I would have checked it out a long time ago when you were in the engine phase, my buddy had a BMW M3 and always talked about the engine/trans combo "V8 475hp/triptronic 6 speed he called it" and how fun it was on the track, I didnt know if that would have been a good option when you were searching but cant go wrong with the nice LS you built and that awesome turbo setup. Cant wait to see it done, Wish I had those skills! :superhack:

Hi - just saw this post - I think I will be running manual brakes for now - not sure if I can fit a booster in anywhere.
I have no experience with running wilwoods without a booster but they are designed to run without one.

daemon2 01-05-2014 01:43 PM

A few issues with the nose yes, it had more rust in it then I expected so I will be fabricating a new one, i will have to add a lower valence to it to extend down where the radiator is now as well. I will post more pics when I get more progress on this metal work.

It has been a while, any posts or updates?

DETON8R 01-01-2015 12:28 PM

Any updates, and where's the photos??

Was hoping to see some updates.
What's up with all the photos? Guess the photos on the external host site have been taken down.
Bummer, these photos showed some pretty fantastic fabrication.
