I like the paint choice but I wonder how important it will be for them to have the car stand out at SEMA? Maybe that should be taken into consideration? I don't know. I think the car would look good in white though.
|
Satin white should look good. One option that I saw last weekend that really surprised me was a satin clear wrap over a gloss color. Easier to spray and (in theory) maintain since you don't have to repaint panels if something gets scratched or polished.
|
^ that was impressive. We should of taken a pic. Looked awesome.
|
I want that paint color so badly.
DO IT!!! |
I'm loving the color too!

Because of the maintenance issue with satin, we are leaning more towards a pearl white. I gues the biggest reason for the pearl is just to be different. If your going to spend thousands of dollars to repaint the car, you might change it at least a little so folks know it's not a factory job. I personally love the factory white. Specially if done right like RS's Innovator. Well here are a few pics of the SEMA crash. Boys work till two this morning and will be up at 6 AM. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps897e60bb.jpg |
You have to scroll back -- to see the post with the bag of $6.99 files. I wasn't able to quote the picture here (<me> Dumbest poster in the Universe!).
I was using some files yesterday --- and got to thinking to myself about what an underrated tool they are! I (and this will be a big statement) don't think 90% of the people picking one up, know how to use them properly. I was taught by a guy that did pick and file work - and lead work - at my first job at Gateway Body and Fender... when I was 13. |
I vote Pearl white and wonder if it can't be really really WHITE -- rather than a bone white Pearl??
Too bad there won't (???) be a way to tell the story of the boys doing this car at SEMA --- because to me --- that's the koolest part of the car. Sure makes it fun when your kids get into the hobby! Mine has moved to Redondo Beach and has started a business making carbon fiber diffusers and body kits for high end cars. They'll have two cars at SEMA this year showing off their work. So far they have a couple BMW's -- and LEXUS gave them a IS to do for SEMA... the rest is "in the work$" http://enlaes.com/335-m-sport/ |

Life is like that though and everyone learns differently and at different time. As you and Al have mentioned, these brothers haven't done anything like this before and that's part of the story. Quite possibly to coolest part of the story. I think I'd be sure to have that in part of the write up/display information. I think it might help encourage people young and old. Be sure to let us know when the car's going to be featured in the magazines as I'm sure it will be. |
This is truly amazing work!! :hail:
And you guys make myself feel very LAZY! Sitting here, on my ass in the cushy Chair sitting on the net.. :popcorn2: :D Instead of just getting something done! He..He.. :D |

Quick update, trunk, interior cabin, floor pan and engine bay are done in the gun metal. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psf3a7ea67.jpg She was dropped yesterday to get the custom exterior finished. As you can see G5.R is in good company (Two Bentleys in front and a Merc on the side) These guys specialize in Bentleys, Rolls and all the other exotics. The funny thing is that they were all exited about the American iron project, LOL. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps701baffd.jpg |
man, I don't know about you guys but I can't wait to see this one together but im going to miss seeing the work dont to get there. IS that your shop??? Nice high end work orders going on. Im impressed.
|
It looks awesome, you should show a before picture of the engine bay for comparison.
|
Vince- I just can't wait to drive it! I got Al believing that I am a shoe driver.. :lmao:
Al- Got you master cylinder insert done.. When you gonna pick it up?? http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3f1c1694.jpg Quote:

Have a set of Forgeline track wheels being cut for the track. BBS are very nice but are a bit too heavy at 29lbs a piece for track use. 20 by 10.5 all the way around and will make for a good street package. The new Forgelines are 19 by 11 square set up with very aggressive fitment. These are about 9 lbs. lighter than the BBS per corner, and a crazy 12lbs(front) and 16lbs (rear) lighter than stock each! They will also be able to rotate them from front to back extending tire life. Tire selection is looking like the Toyo R888 305 all around. Here's a picture from topspeed of the wheels http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC_2919.jpg Here's a pics of the car getting prepped for spraying Attachment 42497 |

Just read thru this entire thread. The work you boys are doing is incredible to say the least!
The ideas for the details are killer! |
Hi Al,
I saw over on Camaro forum that the car wasn't going to make it to Sema and it looks like your kids are taking it pretty hard. What happen and is there anything we can do to help you guys out. |
Well guys unfortunately after 2 years of hard work, it came down to "ONE" individual who cause the boys from making SEMA. Being that we are all enthusiasts, you guys more than anybody can relate to the disappointment and let down thats taken place. Nathan has gone with me to SEMA since he was 14 (I know... you have to be sixteen, LOL) and this is the first year in eight he will not be attending as the air has been let of of his bag.
|
Al you need to tell him to pack up and get his butt to Sema. Stuff like this happens and there is no reason not to go.
|
Really sorry to hear they won't be making it after all. Doesn't change the fact that they have and are continuing to do a fantastic job on the car.
|
This is still going to be a BA 5th gen.
|
Al what happened?? Just running out of time? Just wondering it seems there is still a lot of hours before Sema fir your boys don't mind not sleeping!!
Either way the car is still bad ass!!! |

Al sorry to hear this they did some awesome work and should be proud of it. They can't control others. I hope they end up going to SEMA. The under side of hood looks so much better that way.

Race Ramps didn't though it would be an inconvenience pushing the car onto the ramps so they are using a Cadillac instead. Kinda took the wind out of the boys but they are dusting them self off and regrouping. Pace was slow down to a more relax level and they are moving on. Here are a couple of pictures with the mock up plastic engine. It is quite unfortunate that G5.R didn't get to debut as it's looks menacing and will be a great performer considering it's about 4 to 500 lbs lighter and 150 more HP than the upcoming Z/28. It was also going to debut a new twin plenum intake made from composite that looks killer. The manufacture was having a rapid prototype cut at the expense of about $10,000 just to have it on the car. I wish I could show you guys pics. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2b405de0.jpg http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8312c250.jpg From inside the engine bay, the radiator appears to be floating as you can't see any brackets. The shroud in the picture is a mock up. The final version is much nicer, it was made by Derale specifically for G5.R. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...pse6e3ea76.jpg http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...ps64774805.jpg Here is a little neat deal they did to the stock intake. Took some HP Sticky shield from Heatshieild Product and used it on the bottom of the intake to reduce the radiant heat off the engine. http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...pse4b4d297.jpg http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...psb252191f.jpg They are hoping to get invite at one of the Optima qualifying events next year and and make SEMA after all. |
While it's a crying shame AL -- it's not the end of the universe. There are OTHER GREAT SHOWS where it can be debuted. This actually gives them better quality time to do everything the car needs and deserves.
