Ricks make a nice tank. Good to see it moving along.

How about a pic of the final project looking all pretty and such....... <smiling>

Ooops....... I scrolled back and see them now! 100% stellar! |
Here are some pic's of the finished install.....Everything went smooth except for one issue.....I wanted to keep the ride height just as it was.......the Coil-over shocks that were shipped with the kit set the ride height when they were fully extended........so....Donnie ordered a new set that were 2" longer ........The kit was designed to work with the shocks as delivered and with the 9" Ford rear in the car, the yoke is lower than a Chevy rear........So.......With the longer Shocks the triangulated bar now hit the driveshaft yoke.......They to make a bracket to lower the bar to get it to clear........The Gas Tank is installed and the fill tube all hooked up......Here are some pic's before the wheels and tires are installed
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...C193BBB425.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...E149BB8C19.jpg Ken |
Donnie and the crew at Frame-up did an outstanding job on the Nomad.....Changing to the 4 link set-up made a lot of things happen.....Gas Tank change......eliminating the spare tire well......and Trashing out the brand new exhaust system that doesn't fit anymore.....Anyhow.......I haven't driven it yet, but...here are some pics of the car back on the ground.....
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...F35DD7F457.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...1B4AF9CC8F.jpg |
Here's a picture showing the spare tire well removed and the new gas tank installed........I'm having a new drop in pan made that will be panel bonded in place.........there is still room above the tank for the pan to be 4" deep for some storage......Also the new Glide Engineering seat frame and seat foam assy arrived today........
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...050C58B048.jpg |
Finally got the pan to fill in the spare tire well.........It will be installed early next week and back to the exhaust shop next Thursday ............Then off to Nicky Chicago for Tuning..........
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...2347010B6A.jpg |
All the extra storage in a wagon is worth the work to get it. I know you said you were mounting ithe pan permanently, or have you changed your mind so you have access to the tank and pump?
|
New exhaust system is in......New Tires as the old ones although good.......were 10 years old, and the rear tires were a pain to get in as they were so wide......the rear end had to have the shocks unbolted to get them on or off......so....I went to a slightly taller and narrower tire to make the car more user friendly.........and the new storage pan is in and in use......So........The car is pretty much finished and the conversion has taken the car to a new level, the Coil-over rear suspension has improved the ride considerably........I also added new tubular upper and lower front control arms........the one thing that is not finished yet is I bought a Glide Engineering contoured foam front seat that is being upholstered to match the existing pattern ........Here are some pic's..
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...7998D42F9A.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ABAAC3EC41.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...67F28C39A6.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...94B170B982.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...96128F93C2.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...928F4B47A0.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...1B6C6705D5.jpg |
Update.........After getting the Lift gate straightened by Mike at Madmooks and getting it installed........The next thing I was concerned with was the 25 year paint on parts of the car that were untouched by Pulera's.......the paint was in good shape, but had Orange Peel and areas of shrinkage in it......and I didn't want to open a can of Worms, but.......After thinking about it......I got in touch with Joe Miller who wet sanded and buffed the 66 Biscayne to perfection 10 years ago.....Joe started his own Restoration shop in Forreston, Il (J. Miller Restorations).......Anyhow, Joe said he could get it in and two weeks later I dropped it off....Joe was concerned about some of the shrinkage areas and obviously about how much paint was on the car for wet sanding.........8 days later I get a call saying that the car was finished.....(no paint jail here)........Joe ended up having to repaint the roof, and then continued with the wet sanding and buffing..........All I can say is that Joe is a Miracle worker........Check out the pictures........all the area's of shrinkage are finished and buffed to perfection......absolutely no imperfections at all......Crazy!!!!.......We will be shipping the car out to Phoenix in early May for the Spring Good-Guys Hall of Fame Road Tour that starts there.......I'm really starting to like this car.....LOL

Looks great Ken!!!!!

Wow, very nice Ken. I always said that's a Beuatiful car.
|
Very nice Ken!! You can sleep in the back instead of all those nice hotels....

Update........A couple of things........Took the car to Nickey Chicago for tuning......during the tuning process a couple of issues popped up.........#1....I put a Concept 1 front drive set-up on the car to allow for the A/C compressor to be mounted up top ( no room in the stock low position due to cross member clearance issues)....this setup drives everything off of one 8 rib belt.........and in the Dyno tuning process when given full throttle, the belt squeal made it apparent the Belt wrap on the crank pulley was not the best along with the belt dust all over the engine..........I had a Gatorback belt on the car which has cross grooves which make the belt quieter,........But the guys at Nickey told me to get a Gates Fleet Runner Belt which doesn't have the cross grooves and will give more gripping surface..........Only made 7lbs of boost with the slippage.........New Belt installed..........2nd.......the Horsepower on the Dyno was lower than I expected..(442 RWHP).....Also in driving the car home it ran good but just didn't have the power of the LSA powered 66 Chevelle) ............After getting the car home I put it up on the lift and after looking at the exhaust system..........I now realized that I should have not used the stock cast iron manifolds........and when the exhaust was fabricated, the 90 degree bend put in the pipe coming down from the manifolds actually reduced the pipe diameter quite a bit..........so....as I looked at this set-up, I really realized the Choke point of trying to push all the exhaust at RPM thru that area of pipe........So..........Here we go again......LOL......Ordered a set of 4 tube headers........(pic's to follow).........It will be interesting to see what the numbers will be after getting everything installed and tuned again............I'm also going to install a set of Ring Bros Hood Hinges........

This car just keeps getting better and better!

Fleet Runner Belt installed
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...A224543BBC.jpg Ring Bros Hood hinges installed http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...AE3136932E.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...2B373ADC9A.jpg And the Headers arrived.....I should have done this right from the beginning....... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...91CCCF9A_1.jpg I talked to Donnie at Frame-up in Beach Park, Ill about putting the headers on and he had an opening.......so I drove the car over there without the hood .......I'll bring the Hood over there also so after finishing the exhaust they can install and align the hood......then I need to take it back to Stefano for some final tweaking..........Then I hope I'm finished........LOL http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...477A9C00A9.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...3A8F0EB89B.jpg[/ |
looks good Ken, I may have missed it but what brand headers did you buy? Those look like "mid" Length design.
Also on your Chevelle you you are running the LSA in stock pulley configuration not the LFP 2.5" upper pulley? I'm curious to see your numbers after the header install. Thanks! |

The headers are from Speedway.........Remains to be seen if and how well they will fit.........The Chevelle is 100% stock on the Pulley's......Yep....The Proof will be in the Dyno numbers.......... Ken |
Stopped at Frame Up on the way home and in my mind I knew that the drivers side header was not going to fit............we had talked about cutting , welding, and recoating.......LOL.........both sides were installed when I got there, just some slight dimpling was all that was required.......Should be finished tomorrow.......LOL......By the way.........the Headers came from Speedway ....................
Drivers side http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...2B45976D31.jpg Passenger side............ http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...0300F2BBFD.jpg |
Glad they went in for you without any big problems. They should make a nice difference. I can't wait to see the new numbers.

Headers in..........Check
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...48E2D20C86.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...00B08E8097.jpg Hinges in and Hood Aligned.......Check... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...2E7B47A732.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...D1324EE958.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...EE5B260A3E.jpg And since the weather is nice.........Drive it to work......Check http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...7EE1B1E24C.jpg Gonna be interesting to get it back to Nickey Chicago and see what if any power gains were made.........Again.......I should have put the Headers on during the initial install..... Ken |
paint that intake tube black stands out like a sore thumb JS

Hey Ken any new dyno numbers after the header and tune? Also curious if you're at the limit of the stock injector with header / tune / and pulley combo.

Been busy so I haven't gotten it back on the dyno yet..........Hopefully next week....... Ken |
Been a while for an update.........We were going to take the Nomad on the Good-Guys Road Tour last fall........That was the plan anyway.....The tour started in Mooresville, N.C. and ended in Dallas/Ft. Worth.....We were going to drive to Mooresville and have the car shipped back home from Dallas......During the mod's to the car, we had to eliminate the stock Emergency Brake linkage and cable assy due to clearance issues......So...We ordered an E-Force electric E-Brake actuator (Need E-Brake for shipping)......While waiting for the assy to show up I noticed that the A/C system lost it's charge.....Damm!!.........Did some checking and found that the front drive compressor manifold that came with the kit had a leak in it at where the Tube was welded to plate.......Darn........Called Concept one and they said they would ship one out.......well....It came the day we were supposed to leave.......No time to get it fixed so we took the Impala instead.........Meanwhile.......I left the car at Frame-up for Donnie to fix the A/C, install the E-Force unit and replace the Shorty Headers that had some clearance and vibration issues......we ordered some "Real" headers........Hooker long tubes.... When we returned Donnie had the car all finished.........So, it is ready for this years Road-Tour........Also after the new header install and a pulley change (another long story) we got the Supercharger belt slippage resolved....It now makes 12 lbs of boost and made 520 RWHP thru the mufflers........By the way....The Impala got an overall average of 23.7 MPG over 2880 miles........

I was wondering why you brought the Impala!
Looks great Ken - See you in Scottsdale. |
Very nice! Glad you got everything sorted out. The new headers look great. Enjoy the trip!
|
About time slacker!
Looking good Ken! |
Headers look good Ken. Did you change the top pulley? What did you end up using, Grip Tech?
|

I ended up adding another Idler pulley between the Power Steering pump and the Harmonic Balancer to get another 90 degrees of Belt wrap to eliminate the slippage.........and I added a 2.5" pulley ..........All the difference |

So...….The story continues...… The seat was at three different upholstery shops over the last 2 1/2 years trying to get a decent job..... Now.....This is a Glide Engineering seat ordered for a 57 Chevrolet...….The upholstery shops (all except the last one, had a issue with the stupid way that Glide designed the pivot arms for the seat backs...….They are about 4" in from the seat sides...….Normal seats the swing arms are outside the cushion (common sense)…….So.. After throwing away two sets of covers that were terrible... I went back to Dave who did the 37 Ford....So... Dave did a great job on the seat except I would have preferred a more rounded form on the top of the seat backs..... Picked it up today and wanted to get it installed right away as we are taking the Nomad on the Good-Guys Road Tour and she wanted a comfy seat in the car...… Well......I get the old seat out and get the new one in and after getting it bolted in I went to raise the seat backs and guess what...……..The seat back frames are 1" per side too wide ……..Great Job Glide.....Here we go again !!! All I want is to be a person that gets what he wanted and paid for that actually fits and works...… I guess that is asking too much...…….Glide Engineering Sucks !!!!!
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...ED306792E1.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...FAA5441D4D.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...054A2C2305.jpg |
Test fit EVERY part..... because nobody seems to be able to make stuff right anymore.
|
I called Glide today and explained what happened and they are going to make new seat back frames to suit and all for N/C...…….. Great customer service after the fact.....They could have told me tough luck......Not the case !!!!!!
|
I’m glad they are taking care of part of the problem, is your interior guy going to be able to make the covers fit?
|

Good question...….maybe not because I want him to round off the corners a little more to match the original seat a little better |
I hope it works out that he can stitch it a little tighter and get the shape you want.
