The rockers and oil tank mount are fantastic.

Very nice as always, John. The little details are amazing and extensive in order to make this all work out properly. Keep up the good work.

I am building one of these cars as well , I had to extend the gap’s on the pillars to get it right on both sides , as for your windshield situation is the passenger door too low ? that seems odd.

Here you can see the fitment to the doors and fenders to a car that was painted about 18 years ago... We are removing the trim and will repaint the car and fix the A-pillar at that time for a perfect fit but we designed this to fit as well as possible for all cars and yes they are all a little different. Are you fenders or door factory? This car is all factory Camaro. You gap is the largest one we have seen yet.
So as you can see on a factory car they are just about even or as even as we could get them and not hit anything. We want the glass to be tight but can't be to tight that it hits the metal or you will break it. There has to be a gap around the glass or in flex you will snap it. Hope this helps somewhat. That car is going to be bad ass... I did a more careful test fit of the front glass. Gap is great! Update on my earlier posts on this...for some reason my passenger door sits a little lower than the driver side, I will adjust a little of that out when I do a final door/fender adjustment. I ordered my radiator and core support this week, I'll do the final adjustments once that's installed. On to the rear glass next week!

John this is going to be one heck of a car. Love following your build!

Sealing up the trunk filler panel.
Started with an AMD filler panel, fit pretty good. Attachment 64634 This area will be completely sealed, applied rust protection. Attachment 64635 Welded the seams both on the trunk side and the rear window side, will be 100% sealed from water. Took some fitting. I welded up the seam between the filler panel and the fender but I will recreate that seam later....just to keep the factory look. Attachment 64636 I didn't take any pictures of how the trunk hinges mount, sorry about that! Basically a pin through stock/modified hinges with brass inserts for bushings. Made an access panel so I could remove the hinges. Attachment 64637 Attachment 64638 Attachment 64639 |
Nice!

very nice , I might steal that idea for my build, I think it looks great without the seam between the filler and quarter

John this build is awesome!! I like this view its kick ass!

Thanks guys, as always....really appreciate the encouragement!!
Just finished the EStopp installation, it's a pretty nice piece. I used Lokar cables, they are also pretty sweet. Smooth inner liner makes for a slick cable pull even with some pretty tight bends. This will all be covered with the center console and the rear deck area. EStopp is a little loud to be mounted inside but since this will all be covered with the center console and rear deck, most of the sound should be mitigated. The button is pretty nice and overall a pretty clean set up. Mounted it on some 16gauge with the nuts welded underneath. If you buy the Lokar cables, you won't need the EStopp splitter (the machined Al block) as the Lokar kit comes with a pretty nice splitter. The Lokar set up is actually a little tidier. |
It looks good.

This car is gonna be Awesome!!

Does that have enough pull?
For some reason, mine doesn't so far. |
It's supposed to have 600lb pull that's what the site says. Maybe the cables need a little tightening? It only has a short pull legnth.

The cute little red light on my switch didn't light up when I pushed the button.... I called them and they were pretty helpful...ping them, I bet they will help you resolve, seems like a good group. |

A little rust repair on the A-pillars and tying in the roll bars.
|
what tools are you using to knock down the welds and finish the metal.
|
The metal finish looks damn good, 3M makes a spot weld grinding disc that I started using recently for use with a die grinder , it knocks down welds insanely quickly 3M #01991, I started using it after my pile of spent 2 inch discs turned into a mountain

The 2" discs don't seem to hurt as much as the spiral drums! Geeez! I can only think of one place that you can burn through dollar bills quicker! |
What a great build! Your attention to detail and metal work is admirable! Looking forward to seeing your project hit the street. Keep up the great work!

Fab'd up the automatic trunk release set up. Used an actuator from Electric Life. Works pretty nice. Has a button for inside the cab and a 12 channel remote, though probably only use the door locks. Made a custom arm and welded it to the trunk release tab on the factory trunk latch. Had to make a new plate to mount the latch, factory location wouldn't work with the fiberglass trunk lid.
Attachment 64961 Attachment 64962Attachment 64963 Sounds a little more intense than it really is, just echoing in the metal trunk. That cable clamp is just temporary, will use a cable crimp for final assembly. AutoRad radiator and core support arrived. REAL nice piece, everything looks great. Serious attention to detail and that was continued in the packaging for shipment, well done x 10! Looks good (will be painted later). Fit perfect. Had them install a condenser but decided to do remote oil and power steering. Dual 14" Fans and their handmade shroud....looks awesome! Attachment 64969 Attachment 64970 Attachment 64971 |
