Hmmmm...seems this may have been Norm Beechey's driving style...1970 Holden Monaro GTS350. Known as a Bathurst Monaro because they were produced as an homologation special for that showroom stock endurance race. 25 gallon fuel tank, Chev350 10.5:1 fuelie heads, M21 Saginaw, Chev 10 bolt.
This car is an Improved Production category race car....modifications equivalent to TransAm. 1971 rules allowed flared fender/quarters. |

The first Holden Monaro...1968 HK series 327 250h.p. version. Beechey again.....this car rumored to have been " lightweight " and factory backed.
Beechey gave up racing the Camaro mid-1968 after only 3 race meetings, as GM gave him this car and $$$$ to prepare it for Monaro launch August that year. Note bone stock body panels....interior mods were replacement front seats and removal of carpet, 4 point roll cage. |

"Lone Star J.R." ....Johnny Rutherford goes over the fence and lands upright in a dry creek bed at Eldora Speedway 1966...... two broken arms....goes on the next year to drive Indy 500 for 24 CONSECUTIVE YEARS, for a total of 28.
Indy 500 winner 1974, 1976 and 1980. |
