Managed to make some pretty good progress last week before heading out to Florida for a quick meeting....

I wanted a finished look all in and around the rear fenders, so I built some 1.25" tubing to take place of the 2x4's for a little extra support and welded those in. Also seam sealed all of the joints inside and out, was very impressed with the SEM seam sealer in tan too =).

Inner fenders got seam sealed, primed, painted and then undercoated.

Just some close rattle can but it all got nice etching primer and most of it will be covered up still trying to pay attention to details for whoever is the next guy to work back there. To the untrained eye you would have no idea that its as modified as it actually is.

Got the exhaust hung after having a buddy weld it all out for me......its the second thing on the car that I have not done myself, he is however a far more experienced welder and it turned out amazing. Only hang up installing was the rear hanger moved and I didnt open the hole for the wideband sensor enough to fit so it had to come back out, get a couple things dialed in and then final install.

Pretty sure its going to hit on the axle tube but I can deal with that a little later.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psqh6xogn1.jpg

Got to work on the carpet for the car. I dont love the color, but I love the contrast it has with the seats and the dark brown so Ill run it for now and see if I grow more in love with it as time goes on. What a pain in the ass to install too.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psbvk2s4ga.jpg

Worked on salvaging the rear deck and some old seatbelt covers I snagged from the twins. Doesnt look terrible.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psn7oc1pzf.jpg

I finally got around to trying this out and it worked better than imagined. Think it will give me a nice finished look for the rear seat area. Plan is for the seats to get carved up more bucket like and have the same material and pattern as the front seats have on them, just no logos.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psh83wbkvz.jpg

Wheels are going to be my stumbling block though, CCW's are 10 weeks out plus shipping. Chatting with Fifteen52 to see if they can get me some quicker, I like both.

I also think I can come up with some work wheels in a reasonable timeframe.

Going to try and get a bunch of little stuff knocked out this week, its almost ready for a test drive and some tuning.

I picked up a reasonably nice dash Friday night and got to work on Saturday, disassembling the dash vents, vin, speaker grille.

I have used this process in the past with excellent results. Wash first with purple power, scrub with a red scotch brite pad and purple power, dry part and heat it up, heat up the can and spray several very light coats. It keeps the part from getting glossy and keeps the texture in the plastic part.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psjsyucwdw.jpg

And here is where I started on Saturday morning.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psvj8illmw.jpg

Once I got the dash in I got to work on getting that bad ass cluster all built and put together. For those that have not seen it, this thing is seriously a work of art.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7dxxkgli.jpg

Getting there, First look of the dash bolted in.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...ps97ellasw.jpg

By the end of the day I had a fully installed dash and console. There is a lot of little detail work to make highly modified look simple and tasteful.

This is the inside of the glovebox,

Pic is hard to tell but the OBDII port is mounted on the exterior of the box and just pokes through, the connector is for OBDII can bus interface for the race pak setup. The white wire is for data logging the AFR's. Behind that is a flush mounted USB port for programming the Race Pak dash configuration.

MIL Light is flush mounted in the top corner of the glovebox opening.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2kojsuug.jpg

All assembled and functioning.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pstkh2lytk.jpg

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2obeqnjg.jpg

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psxxqpwqt8.jpg

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pswkzdsadr.jpg

I also spent a bunch of time fighting with the stupid TCM controller. Long story short, the e38 ecu and OS I am running doesnt like having the VSS input straight into it, so we are having to run a TCM controller, send the VSS into the TCM controller and from there over can bus into the ECU but when I hook it up it corrupts the Can Bus so working with Jolt to see if he has a different solution.

If all goes well this thing should be ready for some tuning in the next few weeks.

Looking great!! That dash is SICK!!

Cool build, Sean! Even with the wheels, tires and lowered stance, this should be quite the sleeper! Excellent execution.

Yeah should be nicely understated. Thanks for the props.

Kind of a **** show of a week, sometimes you win sometimes you loose. Bought a new steering wheel and the dish that I thought would work great is just not enough and the wheel is too close to the turn signal and windshield wiper lever.

Managed to work on the can bus issue and pretty sure I made it worse.

I did manage to get the rear seat and door cards picked up from the upholstery guy. Have a little spot on the top of the seat back that needs redone but can do that down the road. Other than that turned out great. Pretty much what I had in my little pee brain.

Pretty sure nobody needs this many pics of a volvo rear seat but I am excited about how its turning out.

Not sure about the black handle yet, but all brown seemed to be a little bit too much.

I love that you went thru all the effort and expense to put a rear seat back onto the car that is 100% impossible for anyone to ever sit in. :D

Makes my sheet metal and carpet rear seat delete kit seem ametuerish. ;)

Looks great. When is first test drive around the block?

The black arm rest contrasts just fine against that brown. And, possibly allows swapping to black carpet in the future as well.... (I get the lighter color attempt but feel the black would be better + tie other things in as well).

Black Carpet

Now you just need black carpet! The rear speaker shelf looks much better in black... love everything but the yellow carpet.

Yeah, its a ton of work but it made for a complete interior, something I really wanted. Should net me some good D&E points =)

I am not too far away from test drive to be honest. I need to get the clutch and brakes all bled then a few more hoses and I could spin around the block......after we get it to actually run. Still needs lots of tuning.

Its funny, I hated the carpet when I first put it in too. but my fear is that all of the detail work I have been working so hard on will just be meh with black carpet. Time will tell, for now though its staying.

Thanks for the compliments. Its personal preference at this point. I didnt like the rear shelf in the lighter color either, but now that its black I dont like it black. I am thinking of building a new one out of sheetmetal and having my upholstery guy stitch a pattern on it and doing it to match the seats. I think that would be the most finished look.

My goal is a european inspired look to the car, not a typical camaro or mustang interior. Some of the best looking Porsche and Ferrari interiors have a contrasting color combo, maybe I am out on a limb here but it might just come together nicely a few more bits and we will know.

SSLance 02-07-2019 11:52 AM

Having the lighter colored carpet helps the rest of the interior shine. I think if it was black it would darker the whole interior and not stand out like it does now.

I agree about the lighter shade carpet helping....
I'm just not feeling the Goldish/Carmel color against the UPS patina-brown material (those are the colors I see from my monitor). I have about that color carpet in my dually.

rustomatic 02-07-2019 05:26 PM

Sean, your sense of style comes through in your ability to appreciate subtle contrast, or contrast at all in that sense. Most people don't understand contrast, which is why they wind up over-coordinating, which is gross (and worse yet, boring--just Camaro everything) . . .

The dash integration is beautiful!

I don't know if it's your fault or not, but I've been driving (bought) a 1985 BMW (524d) for a few weeks now, and I love it. It will of course get an LS at some point, but whatever; I'm just diggin' the 80s-ness of the thing (no nasty elements of the dinosaur era cars). It's also really nice to drive. I could just blame you, but it's also because my 2001 ate two cylinders.

Keep up the great work!

And you could be totally correct but to be honest I would rather try it and see than to be boring and go to black. If I hate it down the road I can swap it out for another color.

Dude we are so on the same page. Exactly like you say I like a little contrast. Its honestly about half and half. Basher things it looks like baby puke and hates it. Most of my other buddies are like hell yeah that carpet nails the 80's/ 90's euro look.

Haha....I have done a ton of work on a buddies 83 533i. They are such great driving cars, who would have known how great they drive? I grew up in an 88 535i that my folks bought new in 87. First car I ever did a burnout in. Good car huh?

Thanks for the props. I am going to have a week to kill the first week in May in California would be super cool to meet up with a few of you guys for lunch or Dinner or something.

Ill be in Davis for a big volvo meet, then heading to LS Fest from there.

Very little progress on the car, picked up the deeper dish steering wheel and got it bolted on, much better clearance on the turn and windshield wiper levers.

Also got a bunch of little items buttoned up. Got the clip for the wiper motor installed. Rear passenger seatbelt indicator purchased and installed, final blank plate for the dash installed as well.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pslpguespl.jpg

Took a little time Friday evening and picked up the hardware for the passenger (Actually it was the drivers seat) and got the seat bolted to the adapter and got it all bolted in.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pspzgp6vwa.jpg

Aside from a little fix on the carpet and the rear driver window the interior is buttoned up as well as it is going to be for now. Still need to get the door panels in for upholstery but that will happen in a few weeks, will only take him a day to knock them out.

I didnt have a ton of motivation this weekend so I got to stripping off all of the old trim (what was left on the car).

I had 4 of the 6 pieces on the car so popped them all of and got to work pulling the old trim clips.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psgifni5yf.jpg

Its hard to describe but from the time of it sitting around it built up some horrible crud above and below the trim on the paint. I tried everything I could in order to get it off, purple power, rubbing compund, clay bar, hard plastic scraper and I could not make a dent in it. I had a buddies steamer and thought what the hell, cannot hurt so I gave it a shot. Steamer with a brush on it worked amazing. I spent hours on the drivers rear quarter by hand. Had the passenger side all the way down done in 30 mins with the steamer.

You can kind of see what I am talking about in this pic.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pshzxckr5e.jpg

Pulled all the logos off.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pspnml1n2s.jpg

It was time for this to happen.....passenger side is unpulled/ unrolled.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pszgyntszj.jpg

Drivers side, is rolled, pulled and probably cussed at more than a few times. Front fenders are ****ty repaints so I have not been worried at all about keeping the paint perfect.

Great coverage on a 10" wheel and a 275 clearing the strut with about 1 degree of - camber, should be no problems up front.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pscbdpppe4.jpg

Got to work with a little color sanding and lots of polishing. Turd is looking how it should in my head. Shiny but not nice.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pso3na9v6e.jpg

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psosr4gwjf.jpg

This fender is the worst, color doesnt match, paint is all chipped and cracked but its whats on there and it got color sanded and buffed all in the same.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pskkhya63i.jpg

Took Sunday off from all car stuff and played in the snow with the new daily.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7xhfpyar.jpg

I need to button up the trim, install the roll steer correction stuff and bleed brakes and clutch and I could take it for a spin. Getting close.

Hate is a strong word and I don’t think I ever said that...I mean I do, but I don’t think I told you. That would be rude and that’s just not me.

The only good thing about the carpet is I won’t be able to see it while we’re out running around a track. Just get it done.

Yo, definitely looking forward to the weather May will bring, probably the coinciding events as well. If I'm around, let's definitely plan something fun--Davis has some good beer and places to eat. My wife lived there for years, doing college and whatnot . . .

I'll probably be attending the following at Sonoma in March: https://www.radwood.co/. Apparently, the '80s are the new '60s, but with Jazzercise and breakdancing . . .

Been neglecting this thread, have made a bunch of small progress with the trim, buffing, rolling and pulling the front fenders an inch or so.

Apparently I thought I had more room between the bleed screw and the floor boards than I actually do. But the good news is that when you have some minimal tools you can build about anything so I whipped this up, its a chopped down 7/16" socket welded to some 1/8" flat bar and it worked amazing.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psmfku5lqs.jpg

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pskoua8a4f.jpg

Had the neighbor come over and give me a hand for 30 mins or so got fluid in the clutch and got it bled. Actually bled out pretty easy too. Open, push pedal down close, did that about 10 times, refilled master 3 or 4 times and then pump and pump and pump, we got the air worked out of it in short order and had a functional clutch. This setup works really well so far. Quiet operation too.

Aside from a few bolts I need to swap on the rear suspension that puts me about buttoned up underneath the car. Adjusted the suspension down to see where this thing is going to sit. I have more room to go but I had to see it on the ground for the first time all assembled.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pspn1qmoay.jpg

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2vpygykb.jpg

I just dont hate this view either.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pssbtr7w2p.jpg

only thing left to add is coolant at this point, brakes are bled, clutch is bled and functional, waiting for Tailights from Sweden and can start working on the grille and headlights now.

Gottta locate an e38 manual ECU and can start tuning on it :)

Thanks man, Its not about the patina at all, its about not being afraid to take the car out, park in a parking lot, do donuts, go on the track and beat the snot out of it. I have had cars with nice paint jobs and I am always afraid to use them. Shouldnt be a problem with this **** box =)

Carpet has totally grown on me now, no chance of it coming out now.

Might buff the stripe off as I have plans for some cool vinyl work on the car.

No time last week to really work on the car or get parts, ran and got some stuff Saturday morning and worked on a cleaner way to route the vacuum from the throttle body over to the brake booster. Little bit of 1/2" stainless tubing and some 3/4" and came up with this. My tig welding isnt good and its taking a lot of ****ing up but a few of these are ok.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psndmxbsos.jpg

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psiteenj0r.jpg

Scott at STS got a new bad ass 3d printer and whipped these up for me to test it out the new machine, turned out killer.

Not sure which one is going to go on but its a super subtle look.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psglhvfe9i.jpg

Got the intercooler setup all filled up with water wetter, antifreeze and distilled water and got it all bled. Got the cooling system all filled up by pulling the upper radiator hose and the steam line, filled the engine and the radiator, ran the engine till operating temps and bled the air out and git it back in one piece. Then I pulled it out of the shop for the first time on its own fully functioning.

It moves! :D

Nice little touch on the brake booster vacuum line. That really cleans up and gives a professional look to the engine bay.

Nice job on the badges, but I'm the guy that doesn't like to advertise. In my humble opinion a car like this is perfect without badges. You've done a lot to keep it simple on the exterior and it looks great. There will be enough curious looks with the ride height and wheels which could lead them to noticing the cage, etc. If your area is anything like mine I highly doubt you'll be able to get gas without someone starting a conversation.

Thanks man,

So here is the deal with the badges on the rear of the car. The paint got damaged under the factory badges, it looks like the paint got eaten from the chemicals in the tape I hit it with a tiny bit of 1500 and buffed it and you can clearly see the DL coming through.

I would much rather have it just clean and no badges. There is some cool that I can deal with like the FORD on the tailgate of the old truck just looked cool, this just looks kind of ****ty without an emblem back there.

The badges are in the exact font , size and profile of the stock DL Badge.

Its getting there, thanks for the encouragement my friend.

Well, the rear axle in this is 1" per side wider than the stock rearend. I have .75" slip on spacers on the rear which is totally fine, however the front is a whole different story. I have a 1.5" spacer on the front and an additional .25" spacer and it still isnt longer than the studs. So in order to make the fronts work I would need at least a 1.80" spacer or more. I dont really want to cut down the threads on the wheel studs.

They are totally the wrong offset. If we get a ways down the road and I am getting antsy, I will order up some proper front wheel spacers and go from there.

I vote for the "LS" emblem in the "DL" spot then...

Took a couple of days off last week for the first time since October of last year. Got a much needed deep clean done in the shop and got rid of lots of stuff. Felt great.

Built a bunch of new storage stuff to hang on the walls a bunch of tig welded ****. Getting a little better on the TIG but still have a tough time feeding the filler and getting consistent results. I can fuse **** together and get halfway good results.

I have to give a shoutout to the twins, they have provided me with a ton of good parts for this old **** box.

Picked up a single round grille and headlight setup from them last week and went to town getting everything cleaned up, prepped and painted.

I would like to get the spring buckets zinc plated but my rebuilders cast is going to have to work for the time being.

I had a little snafu on the drivers side. The spring bucket hit the end of the filter so I cut a 3/8" out of the middle and TIG welded it back up. Turned out pretty good for thin sheetmetal but welded.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psho16h2ab.jpg

Built a new wire harness for the drivers side and got it all installed but have yet to drop the grille or passenger side headlight in.

Messed around with straightening a ****ty flathood saturday afternoon and did a little bit of bodywork on it on sunday. Its not going to be great but should be ok for the car. I am no bodyman.

Aside from painting and installing the hood, grille and headlights I am pretty much mechanically buttoned up. Waiting on the tuner at this point.

Happy Monday.

Well, been super busy with work and not much progress on the car the last few weeks.

I had been given a pretty messed up hood from the twins a while back to test and see if it would clear the blower and with just a little massaging of the bracing under the hood it actually did fit.

So I messed around a bit with it. Passenger side had been bent by trying to close the hood with stuck hood hinges. It collapsed the sheetmetal where the hood bolted to the hinges and put a good bit of a bend in the hood. I built a big bar with the hood bolt pattern and got the hood straight with some help of a buddy and we got creative to pull out all of the dent on the bottom of the hinge section. Getting better.

I kept going and did a little hammer and dolly work on the hood to get it ok, then slapped some body filler on it after sanding down most of the maroon off of it. Jeep in mind, its a really rough hood.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pshxmnegfr.jpg

This was about as much as I wanted to do at home, so made a call to a friend who has a friend with a booth.

We scheduled for Saturday for us to be able to work in there.

A little more sanding, we shot some self etch on the bare metal spots.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pskv272jjk.jpg

Then I shot it with some super build primer and got to sanding.....I am without a doubt no body or paint guy so if you are look away, I am just learning this ****.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3otiwslt.jpg

Sanded with 220 and 320 with a long board to get it as flat as we cared to.....the rest of the car is rough and a perfect hood would not fit well at all. We got it better than I originally had planned.

Cleaned, wiped down and shot some sealer on it.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psis1gqesd.jpg

Just in a t shirt and shorts with a respirator on and shot this. Its OMNI single stage. We got close with a color from Industrial Finishes and I tinted it with some base white to get it as close as I could at home.

Its got stuff in the paint and some sanding scratches from not going to 400 but all in all it turned out pretty good.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psuodbxfws.jpg

I laid down a good amount of paint on the hood knowing that it was going to need some color sanding and buffing. I think I did 1 light and 3 wet coats on the hood.

We let it dry overnight in the booth (No heat but 67 degrees inside temps).

Got to it the next morning and hit it with 1500 to get the **** and scratches out of the hood. It sanded good once you got through the top layer of paint. Didnt go overboard on the sanding so you can see the little nips int he fluorescent lights but considering what I was into the hood and its color matched I am pretty happy.

Ran the buffer over it and brought it home.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psdmqyhtth.jpg

The front of the car had received a crappy repaint at some point in the past. Scott shot me an add for a beige car out in the gorge and I met up with the guy last week to snag some parts off of it. Driver side is perfect, its a dead on match for the car paint and finish. So I got to work swapping my better old ****ty fenders onto the car once the hood was done.

Seems as though I like going backwards eh?

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pswicjxtdl.jpg

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pstbos4j71.jpg

I am glad I did this though as I discovered my tire was actually going to hit the firewall pinch weld at full lock so it got some massaging while I was in there.

New Fenders going on. They are so much better than the ones that were on the car.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pstzwp8cma.jpg

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psckjj6fuk.jpg

First time seeing it all bolted together. Hoods far from perfect but fits with the car. Was a bitch getting it aligned and the drivers rear is still a little bit high.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7dry2drh.jpg

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psn0sr2ysc.jpg

Had to modify the fender roller to work with the lower ride height...

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4pm5cpfj.jpg

Rolling the new fender, still have the passenger side to do but should be able to get that all buttoned up tonight.

Non rolled and pulled...

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pswphpmxpn.jpg

Rolled and pulled. I measured the non rolled and pulled on the floor next to the rolled and pulled one and I have gained about 1.5" of total tire clearance, only downside is the gap at the bottom of the door to fender doesnt line up as the metal gets pulled in a little bit.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8lsl2ean.jpg

Tail lights are stuck in transit, gotta get the rest of the frontend buttoned up, bumper on, adjust some toe and get the passenger headlight wired up.

Got word that the wheels have been machined and were heading to powder coat last Wednesday, should be no problem to make Davis and LSFest.

No **** man. Seems like the little details are taking forever....been at a stand still on wheels and the tune.

Been waiting for these puppies to show up from Sweden for a while now. Who thought that getting tail lights would be a) so expensive and b) so exciting to get!!

I got them on the car last night, they look killer, fit like OEM and are great quality!!

I also got the passenger side front fender rolled and pulled, now to drill some holes in the fender for trim clips, get the bumper mounted up and the trim installed. Ill get the lower door trims painted and installed with all new clips soon. Also have to figure out front hood trim piece, but I think its going to be custom made and super low profile. I should have welded up the holes.

Getting new windshield installed tomorrow along with replacing the seal on the rear window with one void of the chrome trim strip.

Happy Hump Day!!!

Had a day in the garage yesterday as the glass guys were coming!!!

They were withing their window, attentive and did a great job.

He even gave me time to clean up all the old **** around the windshield before he set the new one in. Good peeps. Apple Auto Glass in Portland.

Got a ton of little stuff done. Hood a little closer aligned, hood latch installed and adjusted.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...pshtglgg0o.jpg

Got this all masked off, painted, trim clips installed and the trim painted and installed.

Moved the front trim from the old fenders and fender clips installed.

Drilled all the holes in the front fenders for the later style trim and bumpers and got the bumper installed.

Got the wideband wired in to the serial port for Data Logging wideband.

Worked with a tuner from Detroit all evening on the tune since my buddy Ron has some family issues he is dealing with.

We got it running and he wanted a log so for the first time ever we went around the block.

Got everything but the speedo working, fans are on and controlling, IC pump running, ECU controlled alternator charging working and threshold set. Car runs pretty good.

Just a little clip coming back down the road.

Thing is going to be a riot. Its stiff as hell, might need some different springs all the way around for street driving. Shifter needs to be moved over to the passenger side about an inch.

Other than that it all work, brakes feel amazing curious how they work once bedded in with some descent pads.

Going to keep trucking this weekend, hope to get the VSS working.

Wow! You’ve been busy, the car looks incredible.

:king:

hackster 03-18-2019 12:41 PM

What a weekend. Worked on the tune a little bit more Friday night and got it cleaned up and loaded the manual speedo segment swap with no luck. Got a ton of stuff done on the car though that night.

Got up 4 am on Saturday ( I have terrible insomnia lately so 3 or 4 hours of sleep is kind of normal for me) and got to it hoping to make it to cars and coffee. Had a bunch of stuff to get done. Pulled the drivers side wheel and tire off and fixed a little damage from tire hitting and pulled that fender out another half inch for clearance, much better.

Got the old front bumper trim cleaned and presentable, pulled the bumper again, installed old trim, rehung bumper and got it aligned. Pulled passenger door panel and installed lock cylinder, freed up all lock cylinders and got the door locks working. Installed the drivers rear window finally.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psejj28dz8.jpg

Hard wired in the ground wire for the AEM to Serial port adapter so I can simply plug in the cable in the glovebox to data log.

Got the car up in the air and did a nut and bolt on anything critical, found a few things loose, so got them snugged up, torqued suspension hardware and got the car on the grounds, quick torque of all the wheels and we were ready for cars and coffee about 7:45.

I got about 500 feet from the house and the car started to stumble and run horribly. Backfire the whole works. Something going on, get back to the house and start looking around. Luckily Micheal was around so he remoted in. Bank 2 misfire, no o2 operation. So I start digging in, could be plug wire and also he recommends only running Denso or Delphi 02 sensors so I run some errands, get some new plug wires, new OEM o2 sensors but in my gut didnt think that was the problem.

Install parts, no fix, so I get it running and start pulling bank 2 plug wires and no change, I had no bank 2 firing. Start looking at grounds and sure as **** find that the ground wire for bank 2 coil packs on the back of the head never got tightened down and me doing some clean up back there caused the connection to get lost.

Back to square and the car running again but I burned up all day Saturday. Picked up some parts from the twins and had a nice dinner.

Got up Sunday and got back in the garage, installed new swing out tire carrier on the JK and fullsize spare tire finally.

Tuner DM's me at 9 and says you ready to tune? I say hell yes.

So we go do some driving around, some logs, some tuning and he has me run the car into boost, and a little more and a little more.

This thing is a riot, instant power and wheel spin. He did everything remotely and did an amazing job. We have everything setup, fans, tune, tip in, driveability.

I drove it around a bunch yesterday, have a few little things to iron out, rearend howls like a coyote so that is next to address. Clutch is a little chattery but hoping that gets better with a little use.

First fuel stop

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psx6rjciol.jpg

LSX badge installed

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psjkt2ajtp.jpg

For all the haters of the carpet color, I have to say that spending some time in this space has been nice, the interior came together pretty damn well.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/...psmotdycac.jpg

Now the bad news. The rearend is trash. Needs a full rebuild. SO True Track is on order and will be here in a couple of days will have gear guy Dan go through rearend and replace as needed. Limited Slip is super chattery and the dreaded howl.

It desperately needs more muffler, the car is annoyingly loud. Ill order up a U bend and a muffler and get going on that in the coming weeks.

VSS Still doesnt work, going to hard wire to the RacePak dash assembly, also need to add a trigger to dim the cluster.

High Beams dont work at all, so gotta figure that out.

Pretty minor stuff in my opinion.

Burnouts to come very, very soon.

Sean

Nice work! Looks great out in the wild...

How are the driver comfort ergonomics inside? All good?

rustomatic 03-18-2019 02:06 PM

Glad to see you made it to the next stage, Sean. We had the same plan on Saturday, but I actually made it to the cars & coffee in Folsom; it was Mercedes AMG and GTR club day, so I totally fit in. I only had to jump my Falcon's motorcycle battery, and it was on. It was funny seeing people ignore the nice Aston Martin next to my monstrosity . . .

You'll be making smoke for sure by next weekend. I highly recommend Borla for that whole muffler noise/age problem. Mine (single 3") only makes noise at the right time: when the car is making power and huffing lots of air.
