What's the conspiracy with leaving this car in primer!

Its so perfect you would want it to show, no? Primer is finer...when you don't have the cash to paint.

I love "in the build" cars more than finished ones, they look mean and they let your imagination float. But this thing needs to be finished....to the level the rest of the car was. (to the bolts!)

The color you chose Jonny is cool, its not so dark that it would kill the details and at the same time, it looks deep enough that it will/ should reflect every one of them. I love it.

Keep it up.

My 2¢

Your car will be a model that many builders will look to in the future as an example of a well thought out well done car! Simply Amazing!

I think he does great work. He did mine as well.

Musclecar 01-08-2007 07:12 PM

That is one sweet looking camaro. I can't hardly stop looking at those rear wheels you have on it. I'm assuming you have the DSE mini tubs? I'm ordering the kit to do mine this week. Can't wait to see the finished product :D

Thanks Musclecar!Yes it does have a DSE mini tub but we did a bunch more mods to get the 345's with that ride height. You will need to get rid of the leafs to get the 345's in there clean.

Musclecar 01-09-2007 06:51 AM

I won't be running the 345's. I already have intro Hammer5 wheels on my car and I am sending the rear ones back so they can take the spool out and install it in a 10in rolled lip wheel which will make it 11in wide. I probably won't be able to go over a 315/35/18. They won't look as kick butt as your's do but they'll have to do :D

OK,

That one i need clarified! What do you mean by "you have to remove the leaf to get the 345's in clean". I have 345/25/20 on a 13" rim (coming in!) I tested the tires in the hole (custom tubs, like old Pro street style) and the only thing that seems to be in the way is the rear of the leaf / after housing if you will (in stock location). I have at least 1" of clearance on each side (seems to) I had some offset shackles at one point in the build but the guy who did my tubs said we would not clear with a gain of space that tiny. I sold the shackles as i had an opportunity to do so and brought the car back home thinking i had to change my rear set up. (i was prepared to do it anyway but only if i needed to)

I then tried the tires in again (mysef) and took measures, thats where i realized i probably could have used my Offset shackles!!!

The tubs are finished parrallel to the floor at the 1/4 panel (they don't curve down to the wheel lip) so i get all the space thats available to drop it on the ground.

http://s138.photobucket.com/albums/q...t=DSC05045.jpg

They are not finished yet (we kept some of the middle part of the original tub because it is part of the convertible bracing and adds/ keeps rigidity) it will be welded and finished smooth as the trunk is near perferct.

Anyway, it has been a questionning nightmare for me since i decided to order my Forgelines. I can't wait to get them mounted (maybe this week?!!!) to check this. If they don't fit, i'm going with an Airbar...If they do, i'm getting new offset shackles, ATS tall spindles to mount my Z06 brakes and SC&C A- arms with a new QR steering box.

Hopefully they'll clear!!!

How much clearance would you have needed Jonny/ or more specifically, how much we're you missing? I suppose the outer part of your tubs is kinda like mine? Whats the story...

Thats at the front of the leaf in stk location;

http://s138.photobucket.com/albums/q...t=DSC04998.jpg

And i have the same out. Thats 14.1 inch of rubber.

Thanks Jonny, and, oh, your car is Bad A$$.

:)

jonny51 01-09-2007 07:55 AM

Lead, what i was trying to say is if you are going with a DSE minitub kit I am pretty sure a 345 will not work.If you switch to a quadralink you can get the 345 in there with there kit.Musclecar mentioned he was going the DSE route. We did the DSE mini tub kit with the quadralink but added an extra inch in the outter tub and C notched the frame.

http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...o/102_5832.jpg

camcojb 01-09-2007 08:04 AM

I had the DSE minitub kit with leafs on my last 69. I got the 345-18's from the Mule ad and bolted them onto 18X12.5" Fikses, but they did not clear the leafs. They hit hard enough that the tire wouldn't turn if you bolted the wheels down. That's with the spring offset hangers that give more clearance for the tires. 335's were fine. There is over a 1" width difference between the 335's and 345's in an 18" tire. If I would have spaced the 345's out enough to clear the leafs then they would have rubbed on the fenderwell.

The Mule cleared the 345's, but it had the quadralink. It's possible it will clear in the 20's, the tires may be a completely different width.

Jody

Bowtieracing 01-09-2007 08:05 AM

That is briljant work - again!!! Those widened deep tubs are fantastic idea.Thank you again sharing this  Could those 345 with 13" wheel be used with off set leafs ? Oh i just read jodys post.. so maybe not.

Leadfoot1 01-09-2007 08:05 AM

Neat!

And your tires don't hit the outer tub with that "slope" to the fender lip?

I think Pascual cut and sectioned that area of the outer tub to make the inside wall a lot straighter so you could have the low ride height without rubbing. It does not have stock wheelwells under the 1/4's

Musclecar 01-09-2007 08:08 AM

How much tire will I have on the ground with the 305/35/18? Anyone know?

Leadfoot1 01-09-2007 01:36 PM

Thanks for the pic Jonny,

I now see what's been done. I can see the lip has been cut out and rewelded too, thats the thing i was not seeing fit.

Nice work.

okay i just stumpled on this thread again and all I can say is.

I just spent the last 90 minutes of my life looking at the pics

https://lateral-g.net/larue/

you get 1,000 pics and Johnny has 3,000 plus pics and you "Scott" put up a couple hundred. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Share the pics brother this has to be one of the baddest Camaro's i've seen.

I want more pictures. We know they exist - so you gotta share.

After seeing the pics of this car i've decided I am really going to try to find my old 67 Camaro.

Man is this car simple remarkable.

XcYZ 04-10-2007 06:58 PM

lol, Marty. Yep, Jonny and Pascual gave me a ton of pics of the car and build, I put together a good cross section of what we have. You gotta remember, of those thousands of pics, many were of the same thing from different angles. Pretty much the same as my collection of pics of my project. :D

I'll get Jonny to send some new pics to add.

Mick Mc 04-10-2007 07:31 PM

Marty
I glanced at this Camaro at SEMA and walked on. I stopped by ATS a was chatting with Tyler and he told me to go back, find Pascual and have him show me the details. (This is one of my favorite kind of cars, details that don't scream 'look at me').
I went back several times, no Pascual, but finally one of his guys said he would show me around. He showed me about a million cool things. We were crawling around on the floor in the middle of the show...

Very cool Camaro.
Big Red is still my all time favorite, but Johnny's Camaro has the coolness of the details.
The pictures on the wedsite are very helpful to pick out some of the details that fool the eyes at first glance.

I thought I was the only one who gutted the rear deck and rear seat lean back for a stereo system. Ain't square tubbing great. :D I took an inch of rear seat lean back space just to make more room for the sub box. I won't be riding in the back seat anyway and my kids won't notice. Who am I kidding, they will probably be grown and gone before I finsh the car.:geezer:

he has the Wayne Due setup that uses stock or aftermarket a-arms, DSE coilovers, etc. and also allows a big tire/wheel up front. Unfortunately, they are no longer available.
