Door Pull - Plan B (( 07-03-23 ))
I am finally working on the door pull concept do to the door bars.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...06859e4-me.jpg If you look the distance between the factory holes is about 1" shorter which should work perfect. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...79d1b87-me.png I am hoping they will sit right above the Tiger Cage Door Bars. old picture for reference http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c7f7958-me.jpg |
Harness Bar (( 07-03-23 )) - After Dinner with my Wife
Remember no matter how small the project is getting just one of them done when you only have an hour.
It's still a completed project. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1d8753d-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a20cd46-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...735fea5-me.jpg Thankfully, I used the blue tap as reference marks so it was a simple project. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1152815-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1612952-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2a01659-me.jpg Tin Man **** !!! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a9e386a-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5e6a8c0-me.jpg Done and now a quick shower and off to dinner with Mike & his wife. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ea13744-me.jpg |
Even the little things need to get done.. wish I could find a Tiger Cage for my 68

Swapping out the Fan Fuse (( 07-04-23 ))
Another simple project that took much longer then I expected.
Swapping out the fuse for a circuit breaker. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...79c4b35-me.jpg I love using these washer for grounds on sheet metal. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8056bf5-me.jpg I needed to borrow the Rubber Booty & the nuts from one of the other circuit breakers. Next car show I go to I am going to buy more of them. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...45fcad7-me.jpg Mounted http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fc7f3f8-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5fb5df4-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fdab202-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1f6d5ac-me.jpg I sleeved the wire with the Tech Flex Abrasion wrap just because it looks better and offers great wire protection. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...bc8f27b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a06233f-me.jpg I use this little trick to make sure I know exactly where the heat shrink needs to start. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...56d69ea-me.jpg My OCD is Killing me http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...706599a-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...30083c0-me.jpg Yep, I have issue's http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...de71c62-me.jpg Being honest I was convince I cut the wire short and thankfully I did not. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...642d0c9-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...74bb172-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fb581b4-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2f4880d-me.jpg Everything I used today just to run one wire. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...69c2dbd-me.jpg |
Every little project gets me closer (( 07-04-23 )) PM
After dinner I ran out to the garage since I had about an hour before I was going to call it a night. ( Going to Dinner with the Wife ))
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...dc83a86-me.jpg It's full http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d5f6a4a-me.jpg Not sure if I am going to use both door pulls on the car but I have the second set just in case. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c379ef9-me.jpg |
Intake Tube Support Bracket (( 07-09-23 ))
Since the intake tube is just literally just hanging off the throttle body I need to finish the support bracket.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...325e8ff-me.jpg I have desire to remove the fan shroud to make holes so Self-Taping screws to the rescue. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7de9e0e-me.jpg I can't seem to find my 1/4" adapter for my drill so I am going to improvise. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...08e2d8a-me.jpg Since the cardboard bracket won't be strong enough I am going to run over to High Speed Welding after work tomorrow and have him make me an aluminum version. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3c4f385-me.jpg yep, the screw is just short enough. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7351cf6-me.jpg Well, I didn't notice it was crocket till I pulled the tape off. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ed62802-me.jpg Oddly enough the tube runs up on a slight angle to it works perfect http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e1da1f4-me.jpg It's hard to see but there are rubber grommets the bolts go through so I will be using Nylock Nuts so I don't have to worry about them coming loose. You can also see the bolt that is on the intake tube that I will be using to secure the intake tube to the bracket. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2bf8a58-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f9a5acc-me.jpg I am going see if I can find a shorter nut as it doesn't need to be this thick. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0161672-me.jpg Looks like everything worked so off to the powder coater we go. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...59fca17-me.jpg |
HEY, Marty where did you get the fender cover ??? what is the underneath made for scratches ???

Intake Tube Support Bracket (( 07-11-23 ))
Very early in the morning I dropped off my cardboard template and as Dennis at High Speed Welding to duplicate this in Aluminum.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0962333-me.jpg Picked it up after work and also some new bolts for the upper control arm. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3a25b14-me.jpg |
A Couple Small Projects (( 07-13-23 ))
Planning ahead once again.
I applied some putty over the screws that protrude into the tranny tunnel. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0675fad-me.jpg I added some of the supplied oil to the vintage air fittings. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4f0c01b-me.jpg My supervisor http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...bad3711-me.jpg I drilled the final holes in the bracket that High Speed Welding made for me. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...13fd42d-me.jpg Test fitted and believe it or not it worked. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...740d6fd-me.jpg I stopped by Pro-Tek Powder Coating to pick up the freshly coated intake tube. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8e10016-me.jpg I am hoping to have time to install it in the next couple days. |
Upper Control Arm replacement bolt (( 07-15-23 ))
Quick Trip to Home Depot for some small hardware.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c621cb4-me.jpg I have been dreading this project as my brain keeps telling me it's all going to go wrong. Honestly, All I need to do is replace a bolt that is way to long. You can see I set the car up on the jack so I could take the weight off the suspension. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d2e1e8b-me.jpg A little bit of cardboard to protect the paint. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5683b32-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...226b9d1-me.jpg I also supported the suspension to prevent movement. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...87600b3-me.jpg This Bolt !! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fa0b5f6-me.jpg Doing this by myself doesn't sound like a great idea and since I can't find my long extension I just stacked a bunch together. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f9c38d0-me.jpg I covered everything painted as I know the socket is going to fall of since I have to become a contortionist to complete this task. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6c2f4ca-me.jpg Dear Lord that was awful. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4abfba7-me.jpg Anti-Seize has to be the most loved and hated thing when you are working on a car. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2cea360-me.jpg Correct length bolt has been installed. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f684b1b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5b0baef-me.jpg |
Later that night I was back out in the Grage (( 07-15-23 ))
The retaining clip was bad so just a another simple fix. I wrapped the sensor 2x with 3M High Temp electrical tape so it doesn't vibrate off.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c7e0a5e-me.jpg The intake tubes are coated so it's time to install them. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4eea707-me.jpg Bracket has been removed and for now it's getting rattle canned with Wrinkle Black. Over the winter I will have the fan shroud and bracket powdered to match the Intake tube. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...097621b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...115f69a-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1fa39da-me.jpg It's getting closer http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...048a4af-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fff61ac-me.jpg I can't believe the stud lines up perfectly with the bracket. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d65345c-me.jpg Heading to Ace Hardware to get a USS Nut ( these are very thin nuts ) http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c6d604d-me.jpg Final Assembly Time http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...86dec04-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6d89646-me.jpg While I am here I might as well install the MAF Sensor. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...540b1ed-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...81c36cc-me.jpg I also installed two High Density Urethane washers to help reduce vibration and I will be using a Nylock nut to retain this bolt.. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5600cca-me.jpg Looks like things are lined up nicely. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9e66616-me.jpg So Close !!! I can't seem to find the hose clamp for the filter and the best Amazon can do is tomorrow. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...791f71d-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...058fe55-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a5679cf-me.jpg |

Marty the car is looking awesome!! Can't wait for you to get some miles on it, time to burn the gas in the tank!
If you ever need hose clamps for filters, hit home depot or Lowe's. Go to the toilet hardware section, they sell nice stainless steel polished 4"+ clamps there. I bought a bag of them and keep in my garage for such occasions. Actually had to use one this weekend to install a tach in a 72 C10 :D https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9bceb261_c.jpg |
^^ THIS ^^
I also get mine from the plumbing section. They've got all sizes, stainless, and I find the quality is much higher than the auto parts version. Jeff- |
That is an awesome idea !!!
Thank you so much Quote:

Finaly figured out the Water Pump & Thermostat (( 07-19-23 ))
Not sure if you guys remember but I misplaced the original Thermostat after we found one at Autozone that
seemed to work or at least seal up the housing. Apparently I went to the autoparts store in the Cayman and I must have put it in the Frunk (front trunk)). I crossed reference the part number that was on it and the water pump is from an Escalade. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e40b50d-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...911e99b-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c47296e-me.jpg What I need to do now is create a spec sheet for everything and every aftermarket part in this car. |
I only had 30 minutes of free time (( 07-22-23 ))
Since I didn't really have any free time tonight and the hose clamp came in I went out and installed the K&N Air Filter before I misplace the clamp.

Time to Torque the Front Suspension (( 07-23-23 ))
I feel like I am getting closer however I know there is still a ton of work to do.
Puled out the torque wrench and of course the Battey's are dead so off to Walgreens !!! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4239045-me.jpg Holy **** is that printing small. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...91fba06-me.jpg 20 Minutes later and $14.00 poorer we are back and ready to work. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...eef15a8-me.jpg Upper and Lower Ball Joint - Complete http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1159b91-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...cb1c26e-me.jpg After another quick trip to Autozone for Cotter pins I am back. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a763601-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...af4c66e-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5ab5baf-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a5c3471-me.jpg I always buy longer cotter pins and cut them to size. Not many people know that Vise Grips have a cutter built into them for cutting cotter pins. I learned this trick 40 plus years ago from an old guy and now I seem to be that old guy. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...affb877-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...241d568-me.jpg What tools were needed just for this simple project. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2ddcd1d-me.jpg Since I have Memory issue's (post chemo) I take tons of pictures to help me remember things that I do. So today I took pictures of the instructions confirming what I did today. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...77264e9-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...541b4d3-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8a4c13f-me.jpg I still need to get the front end aligned so I printed the specs for when I drop it off. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b5422ff-me.jpg Rollers are back on next up Driveshaft angles. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...362c876-me.jpg |
I've got the same exact torque wrench. Just so you don't have to find out the hard way, it only measures torque one way. After trying to torque reverse thread ring gear bolts I learned that.. AFTER damn near snapping the bolts in 2. Look at your pic and they clearly mark the direction with an arrow on the battery cover.. The more you know.:sieg:

OMG - I Never Noticed !!!

Holy crap and now that I say this I bet I will have to do this in the next couple months. |
Second Chance Camaro
I recently put some new mag wheels on my old dodge truck

Steering Box Nut - It's the Wrong One (( 07-23-23 ))
I adding this as a To Do List item as the nut that came with the DSE Box was incorrect. I think... they sent me a correct one but I have no clue where it is.

Driveline Angles (( 07-24-23 ))
So we have another leak most likely because the car has been on this rack since April 24, 2019. The funny thing is my
goal was for the car to be down for one year. Doing just a simple Holley Sniper Swap and then like everything I do I kinda lost my mind and decided to do 90% of the crazy idea's in my head. Ha !!!! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...748b851-me.jpg Time to work on the drive line angles http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...350aa11-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8b1cf79-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...759ac1e-me.jpg Small Parts Box http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1b24499-me.jpg Tailshaft is at 3 Degree's http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a9cd99c-me.jpg I did the rear differential the following day http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4726de0-me.jpg Another Reminder since I couldn't find the correct socket !! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3556896-me.jpg Since the car is offset on the lift (allows me to fully open the drivers door) I found a way for the car to go up perfectly flat with this silly combination of stuff. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...531cefb-me.jpg |
Best wiring tool ever (( 07-27-23 ))
I just sorry I didn't buy it sooner
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...cbdc2d8-me.jpg and it's even made in the Good Old USA http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c46402d-me.jpg |
Kick Panel Speaker Enclosures (( 07-27-23 ))
Huh, I am not sure I like these as they are extremely flimsy.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5350a75-me.jpg Maybe if they are wrapped in leather they will be a little bit more sturdy. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...dca525c-me.jpg |
Final Vintage Air Wiring (( 07-27-23 ))
Of course I was able to go back and look at a picture from June 30, 2019 to see how Kenny had it wired.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...045fc99-me.jpg It sure does look like there is a lot going on in there. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...befff57-me.jpg I am using the Mag Daddy wire mounts to secure the wire looms. The Yellow wires are all of the extra inputs for the Terminator that I may or may not ever use. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...350d828-me.jpg Having the heat shrink printer is very helpful. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b444069-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4aa1594-me.jpg I may or may not add a little bit of heat shrink to cover up the blue wire ends. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a3750fa-me.jpg I left a little extra wire just in case. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ce518cd-me.jpg Secured all of the lines together. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c360e21-me.jpg |
Screaming Chicken Steering Wheel (( 07-29-23 ))
I have had this steering wheel for a few months now and it should be going on the car in the next couple weeks.
They are a sponsor here on Lat-G and I wanted to help support them so I bought there Steering wheel and a bunch of other small parts. https://screamingchicken.com/ http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...27e96ff-me.jpg |
Vintage Air Hose Routing (( 07-29-23 ))
Time to secure the hoses together and hopefully prevent them from chaffing on the battery tray.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...89847c6-me.jpg I will be installing a larger hose over the heater hose that is sitting on the battery tray. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...cc555a1-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6e50e72-me.jpg It sure does look close to the battery. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9783c44-me.jpg Seriously Optima...WTH you sell a battery charger that standard battery are to big for. Nothing that a small round file can't fix. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...226d760-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9dae170-me.jpg Routed the wires down so they can be stored in the frame rail. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f3fe836-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b0d6eb0-me.jpg Sorry the picture is a little dark but you guys get the idea. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...bbfb516-me.jpg Another reminder to secure this line to the core support. Trust me Chemo Brain is Real. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...83b2eeb-me.jpg |
Classic Industries Door Panel (( 07-29-23 ))
Time to work on my Door Panel idea that has bouncing around in my head for the last couple years.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3829e4b-me.png Step one remove the water barrier and test out my concept. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b34f00d-me.jpg I installed the door handle screws from the back side to see if the holes in the door panels actually line up. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...05fa65e-me.jpg As suspected not even close. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...6f9c701-me.jpg Cloth Door Pulls and temporary hardware. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a7fcde6-me.jpg Off to Home Depot for temporary hardware. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...64dcdd9-me.jpg First mock up. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2082c48-me.jpg Door Panels http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0fe683b-me.jpg Good News the screws popped through as did the window crank stud. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...00fc6de-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d0187a2-me.jpg I drilled out the screw holes and installed NutZerts. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2efa8ab-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a041a6e-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...385fc61-me.jpg I also applied a little bit of paint and primer in one on the freshly drilled holes. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4921b76-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5e9134b-me.jpg This sucked. Take your time and go slow as you don't want to poke a hole in the nice leather. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f13a267-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5cd0c24-me.jpg All that is left is to cut out the hole for the door handle. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b645963-me.jpg I installed a 1" washer under each of the door pulls to protect the leather. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9080dbb-me.jpg |
Final Install of the Optima Battery (( 07-30-23 ))
It's starting to seem real as I am finally getting close to driving the car.
http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f0edea4-me.jpg So, it's time to remove the mock up battery and install the really Optima Red Top. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5a2916f-me.jpg Well we have a small issue. I am using a grade 8 Zinc coated bolt and washer and the washer is slightly larger then the bolt which is interfering with the hold down bracket. So, the bolt is coming out and I am going to file a flat spot in the washer and attempt to line it up with the bolt head. Which will give me just enough space to clear the bracket. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e463c1b-me.jpg I found another use for my mountain bike gloves. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...39eb3e9-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d813adf-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...000e8e1-me.jpg Filed down and almost ready to go. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7dc55e8-me.jpg I increased the diameter of the inside of the washer so it would sit perfectly flat. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8914b3e-me.jpg Just a little more please http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8adcedd-me.jpg This was fun...not !!! http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...88b7351-me.jpg Nope, the washer rotated so I need to do it again. This time around I started with the washer flat spot a little further back (counter clockwise) so when the bolt contacted the washer it would move in sync with the bolt head. It took a couple try's to line up the flat spot with the nut on each bolt. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...9fd45dc-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...57a6e6e-me.jpg More ARP bolts for the top of the battery tray. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1355dc9-me.jpg In order to tighten the bolts I had to move the Vintage Air hoses. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b412222-me.jpg Some of the blue tape it is finally coming of. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1660de8-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...2691125-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...60722b4-me.jpg http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5df27ec-me.jpg One more reminder. I need to shorten one of the inner fender bolts as it is way to close to one of the vintage air hoses. http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0613389-me.jpg |
