Door Pull Hardware (( 08-04-23 ))

Sticking with the ARP theme I ordered more bolts.

These will be used to Red Pull Straps.

Final Battery Wiring (( 08-05-23 )) Well Maybe ???

Trying to decide if I want to move the battery shut off to the top or leave it on the Side Posts.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...91de067-me.jpg

I also noticed it was bent and preventing which was preventing it from actually killing the battery.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7efa8d0-me.jpg

I added SAE washers to the top post wires so they would stop moving when I tightened the bolt.

I also put the battery on the Optima charger since it was dead.

I learned long ago to use anti-sieze on all stainless bolts and nuts. Learned the hard way that is.

Part of the reason I went to zinc plated bolts in my latest build, plus I like the OEM look.

Inner Fender Bolt (( 08-05-23 ))

Just being safe here.

This inner fender bolt was protruding into the area near where the coolant hoses are. So just to be safe I shortened the bolt a little bit.

Whatever you do don't let that hit your hand.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3e081d2-me.jpg

I quickly pulled the bolt out before it fused it self to the clip.

and the good news is my hand is healing for the cut off wheel.

Trust me we put on anti-seize however I can confirm it was not enough

In the late 70's I had a 71 Camaro with a small block and 6-71 blower. I remember installing some Moroso anodized aluminum blower studs in the new Weiand intake by hand. Next day I went to remove them and several were like welded in place. Couldn't believe it, destroyed them getting them out. That's when I first learned about anti-sieze and the reason for using it lol.

If you don't end up looking like the Tinman from the Wizard of Oz when you use anti-seize, you didn't use enough.

Opps my bad (( 08-06-23 )) PM 3rd Shift

Went for Tacos and I decided to go back out in the garage.

I noticed my battery shutoff wasn't working correctly and I think I found the problem. This is supposed to be perfectly flat
and as you can see it is bent which most likely was from me bending negative battery wires terminal.

I was temporarily able to straighten it and problem is solved and a new one is on order.

You should get one of these chargers regardless, the new optimas are not as good as the old ones, and you should use these charges if you leave the car sit for any amount of time.

OER Kick Panels Modifications (08-07-23) I am still out here

Drivers Side

Getting a bunch of little stuff done today was the goal.

I picked up some OER Kick Panels from D&R Classic the other day and today I am going to modify
them to fit. I can say these are a very nice piece and I highly recommend them.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b1c782e-me.jpg

Need to make sone modifications so I can get them in.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...b558b61-me.jpg

Test fitting and they fit exactly how they are supposed to fit. Now I just need to make the modification needed so they work
around all of the wiring that I have added to this area.

08-08-12 Weird Day in the Garage

Today was a very weird day as this was my 11 year chemo start date anniversary and I really didn't feel like working on the
car so I decided to go out and look for the Holley EFI communication cable that I misplaced and whatever else I could find.

I spent an hour cleaning up and organizing parts and pieces and then I found the Holley Cable on the wiper cowl.

Which of course was right in front of my face the entire time.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e4f6561-me.jpg

I put the Anvil Radiator cover on and wow is this a nice piece.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...c2a217c-me.jpg

Made Remy new napping place and I think he likes it.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ea5762a-me.jpg

Found my hood hinges that Pro-Tek Powder Coating did for me many years ago. They are coated in dust (top rack in my warehouse)
and since I don't need them now they are going to stay right where they are.

Ron Wilson is in Town (( 08-11-23 ))

My good buddy Ron happened to be traveling through the area and he decided to spend the night. Ron also happens to
be building my old Green 70 Camaro. His brother is doing the paint and body and it is stunning.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...a1a44d5-me.jpg

While he was here he went over my car looking at everything and taking mental notes. I had just made a comment that
I couldn't find the G-Force Crossmember shim stack and 1 second later he goes this one.

I spent at least an hour looking for it and it was still on the rack right where I put it.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...374be8d-me.jpg

We climbed in the car and he looked at everything and I did my best to show him as much as I could remember. The of
course the Garage Supervisor showed up to have a talk Man to Dog with him.

Final Top Post Batter Wiring (( 08-13-23 ))

I had a little bit of time tonight so I went out and did another small project.

My plan is to add Techflex wrap to the battery wires to give it a finished look.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...29ef8b7-me.jpg

Need to get out the hot knife to recut Techflex wrap.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...69b594f-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1ad236e-me.jpg

The yellow wire loop is strictly there to hold the terminal cover on. I plan to come up with a tag that says something funny or absurd.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...7303040-me.jpg

Added a small piece of electrical tape to get the fuse at the right angle so I could easily see it.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fd24da1-me.jpg

All Better or should I say good enough.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5774be3-me.jpg

I also removed the blue tape off the Anvil Carbon Inner Fender.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...235878b-me.jpg

It's slowly but surely getting there.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d230bd3-me.jpg

Since I bent the first brass battery shut off switch I need to swap it out with one that isn't bent.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...55f7a21-me.jpg

I just hate the way the wires look on the kill switch.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d397ef8-me.jpg

I added a start washer so I don't have to worry about the bolts coming loose.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3e5a50f-me.jpg

I think I am going to glue this board to the kneeling pad as I can't believe how useful it is.

So I am getting close to driving the car. Actually I could drive it but I just want to get some other stuff done before I drive it.

Next project is the passenger side door panel.

As you can see the holes didn't really line up.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d0f39d1-me.jpg

I gentle used the nut driver to push down on the backing to release it from the board so I could install the clips.

Classic Industries Door Panel (( 08-19-23 )) Part 2

I took a day off from the car and it was nice couple days off.

Back to the car and back to the reason why I posted so many pictures in the last post. I am hoping the amount of pictures I added
showed the amount of time it took to just do a simple door panel. If I had to quess I have at least 8 hours into just this one door and
I am hoping the drivers side goes much faster.

When I walked out to the garage I realized it was getting cluttered and I needed to clean it up.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...212402e-me.jpg

Minutes later it looked like this.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...8309dde-me.jpg

One hour later the floor was washed and the garage smelled like Simple Green and even made a table with the new wheels and tires.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...4a463d0-me.jpg

My neighbors son came over and helped me with the door panel today. We marked all the holes that needed to be
drilled for the plastic clips and spent 15 minutes making holes and hoping they all were in the proper place.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fffbbf1-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...fffbbf1-me.jpg

We installed all of the clips on the back of the door panel.

I couldn't get the stud started and I assumed it was because of the spring pressure.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...249ebe4-me.jpg

Opps, I dropped it

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...80068f9-me.jpg

Since the part was freshly powder coated I added a small amount of heat shrink to the bottom of the spring to protect the paint.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...55be884-me.jpg

That was fun.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...5c4fa76-me.jpg

Apparently it was the paint that was keeping it from starting.

Of course I ran out of these and will need to go to Home Depot again.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3fc4f55-me.jpg

I needed to remove some paint off the upper dash support.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...cc6124a-me.jpg

Apparently Remy needed to be closer to me and he even layed on top of me when I was lying under the dash.

Marty,
I really dig the Mag Daddy clips you used. Great idea. The dash support you were tapping, is there only one of those? Where about does it go? I took my 70 apart about 6-8 yrs ago and I don’t remember those.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Since, I am not actually using the factory lower dash I needed this to support to hold up the dash pad.

Back to the new battery shut off (( 08-23-23 ))

So here we go again.

First concept

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...92b7bea-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...f6f05fa-me.jpg

The switch will be located to the right of the battery hidden under the fender.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...3cdbcc5-me.jpg

I forgot to take the picture of it sitting on the yellow towel.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d060ccb-me.jpg

ps I may go back and take a pictures so I have it for reference.

Here is the reference picture. (( Added 09-03-23 ))

High Speed Welding for the Win (( 08-31-23 ))

I dropped off the cardboard mock the other day and I finally had time to pick it up from Dennis at High Speed Welding.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...ac4f965-me.jpg

I plan to use one of the ''Raw'' Trays

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...96dfa59-me.jpg

Here we go

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...25a5729-me.jpg

First step is to remove the support bracket.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e483905-me.jpg

Testing to see if what I came up with actually works

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...263d41a-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...135abcd-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...e497716-me.jpg

I need to tap the small hole closest to the switch so I can bolt the bracket to the bottom of the tray. Since my eye's don't work as well as they used to I needed to take a picture of the tap.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0ac342c-me.jpg

Drilled & Tapped

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...1d349ce-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...d3bc094-me.jpg

I covered the bracket in duct tape to protect the inner fender.

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...95fd942-me.jpg

http://garagescene.net/_data/i/uploa...0fd3f2d-me.jpg

The support rod will go into the marked hole.
