Thanks! This is that kind of info I am looking for.
Is it different for body repair/modification, paint job etc.?

Yes, everything is by the hour. But, where you get into the higher expenses are the long, laborious hours are metal repair like quarter panel replacement, paint/body work versus simple, less expensive jobs that doesn't take that long like installing seat, door panels, door handles, etc

That is what I jumped into. Body repair and modifications... I had to forget the new engine the forgeline wheels etc. It is horrible expensive here also. More than 1 year for the body.

I can only imagine. For every one shop there, it's 50 here. That's easily fixed you know. Just move to America...preferably California. :welcome3:

3. How much money have you spent on that "Thing"?

4. Do I look fat in this?

(Actually, question #4 should be practiced between dude friends first and often because all questions from "Them" revolve, even in some small way, around this basic relationship question. Get this one down pat and the rest get easier.

Examples:
Q: "Jim, when can I/we drive that car."
A: Soon, Sweetie, I want to show all my buddies how georgeous you are"

Q: "Do you have to shift gears in that car?"
A: "Dang, I love it when you talk technical talk, lets go out to dinner tonight"

Q: "How much money have you spent on this thing?"
A: "Not nearly as much as I am going to spend on you this weekend"

Q: "Do I look fat in this?"
A: "Darling, I'd look fat in that, you look terrific"
OR
A: "You look unlike any thing I have ever seen in my life"
OR
A: "I wish I looked that good in that"

Say "Yes" and you are screwed(not in a good way mind you). Say "No" and she'll be more pissed at you than if you say "Yes".

Use basic fabricating skills in this area and you'll be fine.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I got a hoot out of this!

I'm over 5 years and XX.xx into a build :G-Dub::G-Dub::G-Dub: Laughing OUT Loud. Thanks for the chuckle

Let me restate that then Donny. LOL!! I personally know of one shop that still charges $65/hour that can do it. Not many shops still charge that. Most are $85/hour and some are $100/hour.

The definition of Nice needs to be agreed upon here. Just like everyone has a different definition of a hot chick. Some guys have a little lower standard then others and that is fine. Ugly Chicks need love also.

There is no shop on this planet that can do a complete disassembly build at 65 per hour that is under 80k. That would even have the level of quality to just park out front in the lot at SEMA per say. The cars I would call nice have more then 80k in parts alone. And last I checked the parts only install for free if you do it at home by yourself.

Our Labor rate has been at 75 per hour for many many years. We just went to 85 per hour. There are shops getting 95 and 100 per hour all over the place. The more custom the project the more labor hours it takes to accomplish, obviously. Buy the best car you can in the beginning to save as much money as possible. Then its all down to the level of detail and complexity of the parts.

LS3 - 430Hp - 7k
T56 - 5k with bell housing and clutch
Headers and exhaust - 4k
Front engine drive system - 2k
Engine harness - 1500
Forgeline wheels - 7k
Tires - 1500
Brakes with master cylinder - 3k
Radiator - 1500
Subframe - 7k
Rear suspension with diff - 4k
AC parts - 1k
Fuel tank with pump and controller - 2k
Electrical parts - 2k
New glass - 1k
All rubber and seals - 1k
gauge cluster - 1k
Seats - 1k
Seat belts - 300

I thinks that's 52,800 right there. No plumbing, no stereo, no install, and lots of other stuff right there for what I would call a nice basic car. No paint job, no interior work, No rust repair or panel replacement.

That leaves 418 hours (10.5 weeks of a professional working full time) in the budget to put it all together nicely.

You can buy a nice used car for 80K.

Take your best guess, then double it. Add 20% in a year, then anothe 30% in three years, then sell it for a 60% loss.

Buy the Corvette.

Jim ... Yes and no
Yes its ALWAYS way more than you think but 'IF" you choose the RIGHT car and if the car is built properly, tastefully with all the right stuff you wont lose that much. You may take a bit of hit but I have built a couple of cars and haven't lost money yet.

Cheers
Steve
