Sweet build - love the center dump exhaust tips

Thanks! Now if I could only free up time to get the rear diffusor done in time too...
We made a grille from a sheet from customcargrilles.com, pattern is called XXL Hexagon and we're going to powdercoat it black. I made a 2D drawing to work from if anyone needs it, but basically you bend over the original plastic piece. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...507_203046.jpg (and yes, the first try came out too narrow courtesy of USPS) I was worried about heat soak under the hood and also wanted to reduce front lift even more, so Dustin at CPR and Bob from SoCal Paintworks made some inverted louvers in the hood. A real pain as its all double layer under there and any heat makes it warp. Cant press directly into the hood but needed to weld in a separate piece. Came out great after some bending back in shape! http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...505_105435.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...505_105534.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...506_083713.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...508_224632.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...508_225224.jpg |
Nice work!
Did you TIG weld those louvers on? What filler rod did you use? |
Yeah, Dustin tigged it with a silicate bronze rod. Lower melting point than normal trying to warp it as little as possible. They may try to MIG the rest because tig puts a lot of heat in the metal by nature.

So, here the latest update on the build. Holidays and other stuff has been in the way but its finally getting color. Finished the hood louvres - what a warping pain! Russell, I don't know how they welded it in the end but there was a good deal of warp to say the least. Got Bob from SoCal Paint to fix it, he knows the tricks.
Also the grille is finished and ready for powdercoat: http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...520_043412.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...520_043502.jpg I/C and tubing finished: http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...527_210411.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...527_210438.jpg Also got a little crazy on a last minute detail, a window net. Don't give me a hard time on that, I've just always wanted one since I got to drive a real NASCAR. It's bolted in in the pic, but yes there will be a quick release of course. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...707_072817.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...707_072827.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...707_072837.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...708_001644.jpg Color is 2008 Lotus Exige British Racing Green, a really old school BRG without any metallic at all. Really fits the Mustang IMHO. This is shot b4 the clearcoat. It will get a 1/4" white pinstripe as separation between the green & black, inspired by the George Folmer Trans Am car. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...12mmstripe.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...0722_body1.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...0722_body2.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...718_084148.jpg |

WOW, that one's coming along and looks killer I love the turbo piping.:hail: You might play with the White Balance on your camera It kinda looks turquoise and dark blue lol. -Russell |
Thanks!
The car is outside SoCal Paintworks, they always seem to have 1-2 VW's going on. The British Racing Green has a lot of blue in it but you should play with your monitor settings I think! :unibrow: ;) |
