Thanks! Not yet, I dropped off the car at Guldstrand Motorsports in Burbank this morning. Waiting to get the trans, headers, upper control arms, and wilwoods in and sorted out. Then its off to my electronics/audio shop for the dash, gauges, battery relocation, a simple stereo.

I'm going to be using either the Covan's Thunder Road unit in black. 5" Speedo and Tach.

Or I'll use Anvil's dash, but paint it black. Maybe they have a blemished one I can get. I don't want too much carbon.

Anvil:

I'm undecided on gauges so far. I like the Carbon Autometer series, but feel that carbon fiber should be used for functional purposes, not show purposes. I'm on the fence about the whole thing. Black dash is a must though. I eventually plan on using every carbon fiber body panel Anvil makes in addition to fiberglass front fenders for weight savings. Too much carbon on a muscle car can be a bad thing I think.

I will be using a special sequential shift light system in the dash as well that'll be pretty cool and quite functional at track days. I find myself bouncing off the rev limiter at times.

Man, I have loved your car since the first time I saw it on here. It just keeps getting better. I def miss the numbers though, too bad someone stole one.

Thanks! Funny thing about the numbers. They fly off the car at 100+mph. I've lost one at every track day I've ever done except Streets of willow because its real hard to get to 100mph....

Its starting to get expensive replacing the damn things all the time.

I'll second the sentiments since seeing your car here. Very cool! Can't wait to see some pics with the new stuff!

I use vinyl "low pressure" stickers so they can be peeled off easily anytime I don't want the stickers or when changing from road course numbers to land speed racing numbers. The "low Pressure" stickers are normally used by real estate companies etc. to change agents names and numbers on the signs they use in front of homes. Any sign printing kind of place can make them for you. No residue when you peel them off.

Honestly, I think you should go with the anvil dash. I think The carbon guages would look good as well.

Have you considered using a Nova dash insert and dash pad....I like how it cleans up the dash in the '69.

I was unaware they could be swapped. What year nova dashes? Do you have any examples? I'm honestly not very happy with the current choices out there, even the DSE....

Appreciate the info.

I'm still kicking the idea of picking up a set of 17" Minilite Replicas to really bring the trans am look into the modern era. I wish I could run the magnetic numbers full time, but they fall off at speeds over 100mph.

Agreed, the minilites would really set off the car with a vintage feel. I've got over 3K miles this year on the 'bird and the TKO is awesome, you'll love it. I have the same basic Wilwood set-up as well, did a brake check on the way to lunch with a buddy with a 911 Turbo and he was floored. I too kinda wish I went with less 'bling' on the wheels...so I'm thinking this winter it'll get something more race oriented...I've had about as much fun as I can have legally on the street. Time to turn this thing into a tracker. Yeah, I've got alot sunk into it, but not nearly as much as others, and it's only fun when I'm driving it....not staring at it...that wore off months ago. LOL!

Cars are for driving right?

I just took a 300 mile drive with my new TKO and I was amazed at how well it does on the highways. The RPM's were much lower at those speeds than they were with my 700R4.

With all the tracking you do though, did you go with the RR .82 overdrive version?

badbu68 09-18-2009 07:33 AM

Just found this thread, love the car! If you're going to find a blem carbon fiber dash, I'd paint over it lightly with the black so you could just barely see the carbon. Would look killer IMHO.

Man, that is just crazy about the steering wheel, how hard were you cranking it???

Serpa69 09-18-2009 08:07 AM

I would go with the Covan one. I think the carbon is a little to much. It doesnt say race it says rice.
