Looks awesome Craig. Congrats.
Good luck with the timing issues!

Craig, double check your plug wires to make sure the firing order is correct. If you switch two that are side by side it will idle decent but misfire off idle.

Todd, I think the best thing is just to start over. I’ll check plugs and triple check the routing of wires. I’m getting anxious to get this thing on the road.

So tell me more about this tow hook setup buddy. I really like it and sweet project you got there!

Don't overlook anything. Always start with the basics. Connections, spark plugs, firing order, distributor cap(Contacts), float levels, etc...

Help!!!

Will a SBC run with the timing out 180 deg? Anyway I think I found TDC. I had the wife bump the engine over until I felt the air rushing out plug hole and lined the crank mark up with 0. The one thing I noticed when I popped the cap is that the rotor was on number 6 cylinder. This is an MSD pro-billet setup so would it be as easy as flipping rotor 180 if that’s the problem? Sorry for the stupid question but I’m still trying to learn.

I designed a custom mount that bolts to stock holes on bumper bracket and then mounted tow hook with some minor adjustments.

I'm not sure if it will run or not. It's been a long time since I stabbed a distributor wrong. My fuzzy memory seems to think it will run but like crap. Pop off the valve cover and TDC on the compression stroke is right after the intake valve closes.

Nope if she's 180 out it will back fire through the carb. Heck it will back fire through the carb if you 10 degrees out sometimes...lol Use a wrench on the crank bolt and turn the motor to TDC. Then pull out the distributor and make sure #1 plug wire and rotor are pointing at the #1 cylinder (first hole on drivers side).

Do you have a timing light? What is the timing you are running at idle? Is the Distributor a vacuum or mechanical advance?

Give me a call if you need some help.

I found TDC and rotor is pointing to #1 so I’m not 180 off like I thought. I checked wires and all seem to be in correct place. Yes I have a timing light and the distributor is a vacuum advance. I’ll have to check timing tomorrow to see where it’s at.
