I tried to create a car within reason that the average guy buying a second gen F-body could aspire too.... The Carbon Panels are what I do so please don't crucify me on that that (you can use stock steel in the place of my Carbon panels),,, otherwise think about what has been done so far:

- An LS-1 drive line take out (rebuilt)
- A Ride-tech suspension kit (a Hell of a scalable kit and awesome value)
- Wilwood's entry brake system (their new entry kit, again great value)
- A stock sub-frame smoothed
- Stock interior
- Time spent to detail the parts (sub-frame, firewall, etc)
- Year One wheels (Great bang for the buck & affordable to say the least)
- The new BFG Sport Comp 2 tires (a Hell for a bang for the buck tire)

If you have a better balance that offers better performance, reliability, repeatability, and is budget conscious please chime in with a thread and offer it to others here so that they can benefit from your experience/s... Everyone has a budget, some greater than others... You have to break the bank a little if you're going to attempt to build a pro-touring car in my opinion. The Second Gen's are pretty darn good cars right from the factory and if you are looking for notable handling/driving improvements I can't think of where you'll find a more cost conscious balance....

Anyways I don't want this to sound like a rant,,, rather a challenge to put your knowledge and experience out there for other to benefit from... Who knows maybe you have a better option that is a more affordable approach and I'm all ears to that too....

I think you took this the wrong way, my comment wasn't a shot at you. I've been looking at 2nd Gen's a while now because 1st Gen's are out of my price range, I've given up on that dream and I want something different anyway. I'm all for it and I have the same thoughts as you, 2nd Gens are much easier and cheaper to get to the pro-touring level...but I'm the average dude, I can't afford to spend $60-100K.

I'm just a shade tree mechanic, I can handle bolt on parts but no way could I do an LS swap or any bodywork. All I was saying was this car is not an average man's car...that or it could be that I'm a bottom feeder and way below the average man.

Elvis,,, nobody is talking bottom feeder here bud and it certainly wasn't my inference in any way I hope fully understand that....

This is not a 60 to 100K car buddy,,, you could build this yourself for around 25-35K or buy it for 45-50 range and that is roughly about as affordable as a balanced as a second gen pro-touring build gets...

If you start with a clean shell that doesn't need paint (they can be found for about 10-13K) and follow the build otherwise... I'll bet you could be into this for a lot cheaper than you think.... there are LS engine mount conversion kits readily available and the wire harness is stock sent off to Spear Tech for update/conversion... Complete LS take outs come up for the 2,500-3,000 range if you're patient... I'm telling you patience and sweat equity will do wonders,, don't dismiss the option,,, or your own abilities so quickly....

Just a quick update,,, Scott has been "very busy" with the 53 Caddy, his 66 Chevelle, and the sub-frame projects along with working on Sleeping beauty....so here is a nice Christmas update and I thought I'd share it with the board...
The suspension, brakes, and exhausts have been completed as well as having front and rear windshield installed... Ken will be over to deal with wiring shortly and and well look to button this build up... All things equal I hope to visit Scott at the top of the new year to lend a helping hand for a week or so and we'll finish placing the interior and do final panel alignments and take this little beauty for our first test drive....
