just to clear up some of the questions that were posted before, in case someone is losing sleep over it:
The fuel pump was indeed causing our cut-out issues. But we did chase the traction control stuff all the way through that computer. Dang, they hid stuff everywhere. We went back to the GTO computer because the f-body computer didn't like the GTO oxygen sensors. Somewhere in one of these posts by glassman there's a youtube link of it cutting out. I'll post it here, just in case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NsnFdl6wzo you can see the fuel pressure plummet under load. and the clutch didn't need to be bled. The problem ended up being a combination of not enough shimming for the pilot bearing on the new front plate conversion and too much preload on the input shaft behind the front plate conversion. When we switched from LT1 front plate to LS1 front plate my brother put an extra shim in the input shaft bearing recess and it spec'd out fine.. except when we torqued down the front plate it got too tight in there so it was making the first few gears tough to shift into. We must've had the transmission out 3 or 4 times on that one. (and I thought I was fast at pulling T56's before.. I got it down to a science now) now if we could only get the tank to full, we'd be in pretty good shape. if you're more interested in some chatter on the build, I threw up a quick blog post on it, too. http://www.cjsgarage.net/blog/projec...comes-to-life/ P.S. Sorry to hijack your thread, glassman, just wanted to tie up the loose ends on some of the questions and talk a little more about the build. I'm sure some of you like to stick your noses under the hood a little bit :unibrow: I know I do! |

I think thats the one, thanx Vince.
I looked on their site last nite, and was like "you guys seriously make that many different wheels?" wow. |
Well after two months of research: front clip vs. control arms and steering, tomorrow she's going to Custom Works in Chico for a little work
March "sport track" accessories Speedtech upper and lower CA's AFCO adj coil-overs Custom Works sub frame connectors GM new steering box 14:5-1 i believe Power coat existing subframe assembly Hooker headers new ones Hooker engine mounts and crossmember So I decided to do this over the subframe change out for a couple of reasons: #1 I'm a "good" driver but not great, need more saddle time so I wont be able out drive my talent for quite some time. #2 $6300 to $7200 plus exhaust, brakes, and other incidental's adds up quick vs $4200 and i get to keep the Baer "track" brakes i have on it now, which are good, but not as "good" as what would of came on a subframe set up. #3 Hooker's new set-up i saw at SEMA was a serious seed for me, pretty much turn key and gets all the angles and clearances just right for a good price and minimal headache, i've been through enough with the LS swap as it is. So as she sits now, the Dynatech headers sit 2.375 from finished floor to bottom of collector now, I've got the trans-adapt engine mounts at their highest setting (my t-56 is 3/16 from the tunnel), I may be able to get the Dynatech exhaust to work as its 22.5 C/L right now and the Hooker setup is 20.5 c/L. So in my opinion, the collector is just too low. I currently have 0 steering under "autocross" conditions, something we did in the swap with the reservoir effed up my steering, plus i needed a new box anyways, 2 to 3 inches of play was a little much. The car steers fine on the freeway and left and right turns, but when forced, it hydraulically locks up. Plus my alternator being so low took away Ackerman angle so the geometry is off, which could be adding to the problem, when i "jerk" the steering wheel. So moving the alternator, new power steering box, and adding a/c, was worth it to get the March "sport track" kit, $1450 vs $2400 for the Wegnar, while i like the Wegner setup more, a grand is a grand (less new water pump), so we'll see if this March set-up is worth the 850 or so, cause i've "bought" many a headache's in the past by trying to save money. With three kids in college right now, yes, life is very expensive. So hopefully, in a month or so, i'll have a front suspender set up ALOT more dialed in than what i have now... Now, to ponder the rear.... |

I would not worry at all about the subframe. They are great with a few modifications and reinforcments. Just Keiths addition of the Delphi box will wake it up nicely.
Keith will give it the run through. Talk him into making composite wheel houses for you too!! For that much needed tire space. |
