sweet!!! i bet that feels like a BIG mile marker getting that engine in there!
that big block looks at home in there. |
Hey Todd
Thanx again for letting me come over and see the Camaro:thumbsup: I see the engine is in! Not much longer, I hope before its ready to fire!!!!! Thanx again! Mario |
Tranny is in...what a mother ***** ****** **** :D I am so wore out I don't fee like going into detail. Later

At least it's in...and fits.

Just went from the first post until now......
your car is really Badass! Can't wait to see it done and your close~NICE! |
Appreciate it...it has a March ultra drive system on it. I have a new bracket being made as we speak that will look similar to the paper mock up on the motor.
After spending a couple hours centering the bellhousing, I figured it would slide right in. Ya right. We could get it within about a half an inch and it would stop. Figured it had to be clutch alignment problem so I took it back apart and got it as close as humaly possible with the same outcome. I got to thinking about when I mocked up the bellhousing on the tranny on the table. It was a very snug fit. In fact it took a little effort to get it on there. We figured out it was the hub on the tranny not wanting to seat in the bellhousing. Since I only had a **** hair for the clutch to be off, I used a tie strap and cranked the clutch fork all the way back to let the pressure off the clutch then it would move with the tranny. Then we were able to get it in all but 3/16 to 1/4. We knew at that point the clutch was engaged and so was the pilot bearing mostly. So I sucked it in slowly with the bolts which is usually the wrong idea but I had no choice. A little resistance then it slid right in. Everthing feel right and turns freely. The photos are of it jacked up until the vent almost touches the floor. Looks damn close to stock crossmember height. I am going to try and have my current crossmember modified so it bolts together on both side just on the outside of the tranny mount. Probably build some adjustment in it so I can get the vent as close to the tunnel as possible and adjust my pinion angle from there. Distributor clearance is find etc. |
Todd, clean out those PM's brotha...

Updates
The complete fuel system is done except for the gas cap. The stocker won't fit. I used 1/2 aluminun moroso line from the G Bar bracket to the fuel regulator on the front frame. The rest is AN and black pro flo 350. I also made a bracket for the fuel pump with rubber insulators up against the tank. It is wired from the trunk and the wires run on top of the tank.

Oil lines
I have my remote oil filter and hose done. I used heat wrap where they are close to the headers and snaked them between the frame and oil pan through the engine mount. She ready to prime. Pretty slick and looks damn good too.

Power steering/breather system
Power steering is almost done. I need to call DSE in the morning. I can't get a fitting on the pressure side of the rack. Probably going to need a 45 right out of the rack to get a fitting to screw on. Anyway, breather system is complete. Power steering resorvoir and all the other lines are done.

Looks good I'm glad I stayed up late , got to see new update.

Wiring
I have alot of time in wiring. Most of the front end is wired just waiting on my Vintage air kit and my dual fan setup so I don't have to back track. Everything from the fuse block back is done. I am also waiting on the AC so I can cut my hole for the AC controller. I want to wire the AC/Heat and gauges before the column goes back in. Really could turn the key in a little of no time. I want to get it to the point I can back it out of the garage before the key turns. Here is a glimpse at wiring.

I can't wait to see it run !
|
I have Tyler at ATS making me a crossmember. As soon as he is done I can order my drive shaft and cut my shifter hole.
Headers are out at the coater and should be done tomorrow. Went with the same coating as before just due to the heat disipation. I liked the black when I had it mocked up but want to cut down on heat as much as possible. Once the headers are in..I can start stacking in my Z bar, column, master cylinder..etc. Dual fan setup should be on it's way. Vintage air was ordered from Frank last week. Hope to see it no later than the beginning of next week. Should have front brakes showing up anyday now as well. |
You must be nipping at the bit to get it running.

Todd your making awesome progress! I might have to stop in and have a look.
|
Come on over anytime...and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Can't wait to fire it up and piss off the neighbors.:D

Looks awesome Todd, nice progress!

man todd your jamming on that car esp. cause your doing most of it alone too.
i need to come by a see that car now since it sporting LOTS more parts than the last time i saw it!!!  |

Are you using small or big block frame stands? Dan @ Lemon's told me he prefers the fit with the small block mounts. |
AJ...come on over buddy. I have a freshly coated set of headers I just picked up today. EFI I have the small block 307 stands. I am on Dan's Christmas list this year. :D It has nothing to do with the rack and high pressure fitting. I am going to try and loosen the rack up so I can move it just enough hoping that once the fitting is threaded it will clear the frame fine.

Are the new headers Lemon's? Lets see!

What the hell. The primaries are bigger than most cars tailpipes.

They look awesome I like the conectors for the collectors I wish I would have seen them when I got my Hookers

There seems to be alot of clearance between your radiator and water pump, room for big a$$ electric fan motors, something I will be needing as well. |
Thanks guys....there really isn't that much room once you get a shroud on it. Definitely just enough room for a dual fan setup.
I ended up having to take the sway bar out and unbolting the rack to get the high pressure fitting on. My only bitch so far with the DSE sub. A little more fitting clearance would be good. But power steering is done now. Headers are in but need to rearrange some starter wiring. GM really could have designed the starter better. I'll tweak it and it will be just fine. They look good! I think I liked the black a little better but I really need all the heat disipation I can get. As soon as I get my AC, cross member, and fan situation squared away it's time to set fire to this beast. |

Wicked!
What's on your list of things to do next week? Looking for an excuse to drive across town. :unibrow: |
I actually didn't order the v clamp option but they came with them. I was trying to save a bone or two. Glad he messed up and sent them with them however. It will make it so much cleaner.
May be slow this week. I have some wiring I can button up, but for the most part I am waiting on the parts mentioned. The Vintage Air box keeps me from doing to much under the dash, completing my front wiring, and mounting my dash insert. Not having the crossmember keeps me from cutting the shifter hole, setting up my Z bar, ordering my driveshaft, etc. Maybe I'll just put in a swamp cooler this week.:unibrow: |

A couple set backs
Well I have run into a couple problems that will slow me down.
The drivetrain angle is approx 4.5 degrees measuring off the tail shaft, and that is with it uncomfortably close to the tunnel. I am going to order the driveshaft and measure off the U joint caps like Jim over at Classic Chevy 5 speed said I must do. Looks like the tunnel will need cut or I'll have to put stock height bushings in the car. I would have to cut the subframe connector welds to put stock height bushing in it anyway. At this point I'll probably cut the tunnel due to already cutting all my custom lines. I did ask for stock height bushings when Prodigy built my roller, so not real excited about all the trouble it's caused me so far. More than likely Payback is going to have to make a trip down to ATS for the tunnel fabrication. May just get it running and have him do the tunnel and exhaust all at once. Had to cut the hole for my AC in my DSE dash and the paint chipped when I pulled off the tape. Make sure you cut all your holes before you paint it. http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0834.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0833.jpg |
Todd, As with myself, it seems like it's always something. Keep plugging away, that's a beautiful car you have there.
Good Luck Lenie |
thats weird that it chipped... what did you use to cut it??? from the pic it looks like it would be better to repaint it anyways cause the paint line from the black to the silver doesent look too straight...
i can see it now, when you pulled that tape off and took some paint with you, you must have been pissed. also sorry to hear about the tunnel... those body drops have been giving you a good amount of trouble... |
It's 1/8 inch steel so I had to use a cut off wheel and a die grinder. Looks like it will be headed back to Prodigy for a redo. I am going to go ahead and order the driveshaft and get exact measurments. It would be ideal to get the driveline to 3 degrees. Right now I can get it to 4.5-5 which may work as long as the driveshaft is at 1-1.5 degrees. You take your drivetrain and pinion angle and subtract your drive shaft angle. If I have to cut the tunnel I will. In the end I am sure the aggravation will be worth it. Just wasn't expecting it.

Been super busy with work and vacation but I managed to get out in the garage tonight and made some major progress.
At this point I wouldn't recommend DSE half drop body bushings to my worst enemy. That 1/2" is desperately needed in the tunnel with a TKO 600 and a slammed chassis. It's also needed for the air cleaner. One step back http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0838.jpg After alot of research I found out that I had 1969 307 frame stands and 1967-1968 small block engine mounts. They changed the motor mounts in 1969 for the low performance small blocks. I couldn't have had a taller set up. I do have to thank Dan Lemons for that one. I am going to email him so he can update his records. I figured out that going to 1969 HI Po 302/350 mounts gained me 3/8 of an inch. They used them to gain hood clearance for the cowl induction option. On the left you will see my new set up that gains me 3/8 which equals about .2-.3 in driveline angle but it made just enough difference. The aircleaner clearance is a bonus. http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0839.jpg My new driveshaft showed up today from Empire Driveline and Classic Chevy. What a nice piece!!!:unibrow: Will insall and measure working angles on my =driveshaft tomorrow hopefully. If that all checks out Tyler at ATS will be getting a call to fab my crossmember finally! http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0840.jpg With the tranny not touching the tunnel and the vent as close as possible with no compression the intake is at .1 degree and the driveline angle is 4.1 down. I found that the valve cover crease is equal to the tail shaft angle. The car does pitch down in the front slightly stance wise so I will more than likely gain a little and the car the intake will probably end up perfect along with the drivettrain angle. I am probably going to build some blocks to put the weight on the front wheels to get it at true ride height and compress the rear end fully to do my final drivetrain/driveshaft angles. Things look pretty good now...I can probably tweek the cross member with shims just enough to make it work and be in spec with no vibrations or unwanted noises. Time will tell. |
To achieve the measurments I leveled the car using the rockers.

Sorry to hear about your troubles! I too have the .5" lower body mounts and redid the tunnel top on a rust free floor...not what I had planned but the T56 had to fit and I had already welded the SFC's in at that height. Kyle offered to swap out my mounts for stock height but I decided I would rather do the tunnel than revisit the SFC's. In hind sight I probably should have swapped to stock height mounts to make many other things work easier...live and learn!!
Good to see you are back to making progress!! |
I'm glad its working out for you I would have hated to see you cut the tunnel being so close to start up.
Wayne |
Anything new ?
Wayne |
The rear end is all set up as good as I can get the driveline angles with what I have to work with. Tyler has my crossmember and is modifying it into a three piece design similar to the T56 kit he sells. I have my dual fans wired up. Really waiting on some parts right now. Once I have my AC, DSE dash back from repaint, crossmember, steering wheel adapter, front brakes, it won't be long before that key turns.
