Looks great! I'm a little scared to try to install my headliner myself....had no idea thay can charge as much as a grand to do it though! :wow:
|
Wow Rich you guys did an awesome job on the head liner. Did I mention you and the wife are invited over for the weekend I put min in. :_paranoid lol It came out great.
|
You are doing some killer work Rich. Top shelf stuff....
|
Beautiful car man! Not sure how I have been missing this thread.

What a good job Rich!!
I am also in the stage of installing the head liner...... pushing it forward and doing all other things instead.......I have to start some day. I think next week:yes: Nice car by the way. I bought you Baer brakes a few years ago.... |

Hope the brakes worked out well for you. Thanks again- Rich |
Door and quarter window glass is always fun, lots of adjustments, I got it pretty well adjusted, it certainly doesn't fit like the original but it does look nice on a new build. Working from the top down and back to front. So the rear deck and rear seat and door panels are in. Because of the harness bar tab coming through the belt line, I thought it would be a good idea to use a 67 door panel. This way I didn't have to buy/cut in to the 69 rear panels and try to trim it out, we finish painted the belt line all the way around for this reason. A couple of Polk 6x9 speakers in the rear deck and getting ready to trim carpet.

Those guarter panels look great in there. How is the rug fitting with the raised tunnel in there?? Will it have enough on the sides to get under the sill plates, or is it going to be close? Where did you pick up the headliner?
|
Very nice Rich. Car is coming along very nicely.

Really awesome job you are doing on car. Fantastic details
|
Rich -- I love the fact that you're willing to tackle any job in your build. That's a great attitude. Most of this stuff is NOT rocket science... it's about thinking the job through - having patience - working methodically and in some cases - stopping and taking it all apart etc and starting over. My hat is off to you and you should be really really proud of yourself and your car. Nothing beats the feeling of knowing "I did it myself".

Started fitting the front carpet, looks like there should be enough to fit under the sill plates. Its not a ton of material but should be enough. I have a nice size bubble on the drivers side of the tunnel near the shifter, I need to pick up some carpet double sided tape or glue it down. Once that is pressed up against the tunnel theres another 1/2 inch overlap at the sills. Still have a bit of cutting to do. Think Im gonna get me some Sam Adams Cream Stout(its real good  ) and call it a day. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...Picture115.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...Picture117.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...Picture116.jpg |
Thats good that it makes it. One problem averted.
|
Great job Rich. Moving right along!
|
Damn Rich, everytime I look at your thread I just think WOW, what a beautiful build. I cant wait until the next time I can get up there with Tommy. I gotta see this car in person.

Made some progress on the interior, its starting to take shape. Tough time with the urathane repro dash pad but it will have to do for now. Recaro seats, kick panels, front door panels, done. Still have to pick up harnesses and a fire exstinguisher, should have the interior done by end of Feb. here's a few pics.

Looks Killer, keep up the great work!
|
It looks great Rich. how did the door panels fit? Was it tuff to get them on? Which ones did you use? Very Nice.
|
I love seeing 1st gens with no console, looks badass!

Thanks- The fit was ok once I relocated all the card board cuttouts with a sharp xacto knife and hot glue gun in the back for the push clips(3/side). The corner radiuses at the bottom of the door are a bit funky, not to difficult to get on, I had to add one extra sheet metal screw to hold the panel from bubbling out. You just have to make sure the big metro seal ends at the top ends are tucked in tight at the top of the panel. I used the Pre-asembled standard front panels from Ricks, you may want to go for the platnum edition for 30 bucks more. On mine across the top surface its a bit wavy, I heard the platnums are stuffed nicer and the pleats look a bit closer to the originals. Ive probably said it a million times, the repro stuff just sucks athough I guess we should be happy we have it. It all has to be massaged in one way or another. Perhaps its me but it seems like the quality is getting worse. This is a good one, the repro window cranks dont fit on to the repro regulator shaft. Something as simple as a bore diameter they cant get right. You cant just stuff a drill bit in it since there are key ways on each side of the bore, so out comes the die grinder, and once again your cutting metal as well as the splines being a sloppy fit. Enough rant for now, I wish all manufacturing would come back to this country. Rich |
Great build can't wait to see it done.
rich |
Rich its not only the repro geulators the window cranks don't fit they were tuff to get on my factory regulators too. You did a nice job putting them on they look good.
|
Looking good Rich. Great progress. Keep us posted.
|
Rich, sorry to switch back to the headliner topic.
I can't get the wrinkels out of the last bow at the c-pillar. The rest is perfect but at the c-pillar there is not a real good way to tighten the headliner. How did you do this? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...10314-2104.jpg |
Just read entire thread, very nice ride!
I was wondering if you could give me some details on your bi level heater/defrost set up? Would like to have defrost and like you not really interested in putting in an ac system. Any info would be great. Thanks |

Hey Rich - how you doing?
I called VA about four months ago, told them I needed the same for my 69. They reccomended the 506101: http://www.vintageair.com/catalog10/...Page%2023).pdf I'm wondering if I wouldn't be better off w your unit? |

I think the dimesnions are about the same. The only difference I can see is a bi-level. I'll call them and send you a PM...

Almost ready to turn the key. A bit more progress, the exhaust was a big hurdle for me, I ended up with a magnaflow system. Its really tough to beat from a price stand point, all stainless although it is pretty ferrous, it aint no 303/304 SS. I have a feeling its going to be a lot louder than I want, I dont have a prayer in getting the tails past the monkey bars back there so its dumps for now. It would be nice to take it to someone who can bend something nice and tight completely under the frame rails. The windshield and trim went in and I did pull the trigger on those fender supports from DSE.

Car looks great Rich. I have those same mufflers and was wondering the same thing.
|
Wow That looks awesome! You did a beautiful job putting it together Rich. The exhaust looks great too. Glad to hear you like it I have the same kit for mine good to know it fits. I'm glad to see your getting close to start up I can't wait to hear it running. Its a good thing you don't live closer You'd be saying "oh no here he comes again". lol Awesome job!
