The engine has never been suspect, came from an excellent source and has been proven to put out PLENTY of power- thanks Jody....
We do plan on toning it down for the initial shakedown miles, but it shouldn't need it. Thing put out 700RWHP in the other car- without an intercooler. Should be able to get up to that number again. Figure we'll ease you into the retro world slowly. Should be a beast, but so different from the Porsche! At least you'll have some fat, sticky shoes to help lay it down. Tempted to mini-tub my '68 vert  Or should I build another? |

Yeah ok I guess we can ease into it. And you're right about it being diff than the Porsche..... I def wouldn't feel comfortable doing 175 in the Camaro. Can't wait to heat up those drag radials and do a 3500rpm clutch dump! :D |
Dave,
Glad you're nixing the 175 mph blasts... Vertigo sounds better than 'The Grey Ghost'. :D |

The Grey Ghost.... I kinda like that! |
We were scheduled to fire the motor today and hear some open header thunder, but it was not meant to be. Found out the previous unnamed "builder" (I use that term loosely) did something with the fuel rail and removed the FPR and hacked something up, so Gearhead is working with Holley to send us out a good one within a week. Hopefully fire it up next week. In the meantime, here are a few updated pics of the car. It's starting to like something I can drive!

Dave,
The interior has got a serious look to it. Tough about the fuel rail. I'm sure by now you plan on Murphy's Law being in effect , and when he unexpectedly takes a day off its a nice surprise.;) |

Yeah, it's just funny how I have said many times to Jason @ Gearhead that I am FINALLY done with dealing with the previous builder and the issues caused by or related to him... but his "work" and a missing or shoddy part here and there just keeps creeping up! It's nothing major (yet) but Gearhead is great about going through every nut and bolt of the car to make sure it is up to par and will be mechanically sound, as well just plain safe for me to drive! |
Nice to hear you are getting so close!! :woot:
|
thanks Tony! :woot:
|
Are you still going to drive it up here for Karma's home coming!? ;)

What did they do to the regulator/rails?

I cannot recall exactly how the rail was modified or messed up. I have to ask Jason again, or maybe he can chime in here? paging Gearhead..... :D |

Email on the way................. |
The passenger side fuel rail on the Holley StealthRam was originally designed to have a fuel pressure regulator attached to it. The regulator is now gone, and the fuel railis crossthreaded where the FPR was previously located. It is an o-ring design, but a pipe thread plug has been forced into the hole making it so it will leak whichever way we choose to go.
Based on the way the engine bay is laid out, we prefer to replace the fuel rail (thanks Holley) so we can run the on rail style regulator. If it the threads weren't so bad, we'd just run an external regulator w/ bypass return back to the tank. Both ways have worked well for us in the past, so I've decided to go with the cleaner setup to keep aesthetics nice and cost down for ol' Dave. Plus, we had already commited to running fuel lines to the rails, and naively assumed that all was in good working order.....fittings & hoses are already built so since the setup fuels Mike P's ProCharged StealthRam with plenty to spare, we should be good here too! Otherwise, all is good. Hopefully Lady Luck is on our side, and that hideous Murphy's Law and the gremlins from the previous work performed will stay at bay. Planning on blacking out the wheels, building the intercooler piping, exhaust & maybe eliminating the rear bumper over the next weeks or month.....;) |
Thanks for the technical explanation, J. I guess that's why you are building the car and I am sitting at home twiddling my thumbs!

Hey Dave,
Glad things are working forward for you. Sucks having to deal with things popping up, but Jason is good at tackling things positively. I have mine home for a few weeks, it has been fun playing with it. Soon we will all be cruzing around. |

Can't wait to cruise man! |
Well the fuel rail we had been waiting for came in today, but it didn't come with the FPR! DOH! That was pretty much the whole point!
Shooting for this Friday or Saturday for fire up if we can get the FPR in time. |
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Dave. Nothing like the first start.

Been puttin lots of miles on yours lately? |

Yeah, we just drove it up to Redding for Kool April Nights. It was fun, drove great no overheating issues even in 90 degree heat cruizing. |

Any Opinions?
Curious what you all think of the wheels now- we powdercoated one in all black to get a feel.......previously, only the centers were black. Remember, this one's an all business streetfighter.
CRAP, my files won't upload.....DAVE? A little help here buddy, post yours? |
Come on Dave we are waiting for some pictures......

Wheels
Looks pretty good Jason, but kinda hard to tell with no tire on it so get back to work. I think it will look tougher with the all black wheel.
|
Hot........

I think that looks perfect....DO IT! :D
