Man that is going to be an awesome project. When I started my T/A I thought nothing could beat my 455HO I had a friend telling me about this truck he owned he was so proud of it when he finaly brought it over I was not impressed, he offered to take me for a ride in it my god it was so fast it weighed 4200lbs and just looked like an ageing truck it had an LQ9 6.0Liter at that moment it changed the whole dynamics of my project the 455HO is just sitting in the garage I am now the proud owner of a 2002LS1 twin turbo I'm sure if you ride some BB lovers around that LS6 will make them see the light good luck.

few update pics,i call it my redneck induction. it looks pretty cool. i was trying to avoid the hum drum air cleaner. thanks for checking in. bill

GregWeld 02-20-2010 06:03 PM

Nice Bill! What's redneck about that??

I assume you're planing on using some kind of foam filter material in the "box"?

Was there a reason you didn't want to just stick a cone style filter on the end of the intake tube??

bigtyme1 02-21-2010 04:43 AM

It turned out pretty cool Bill, Cant wait to see what you do with the engine cover.

Bill, very nice addition might I add. One question though, I see on the induction boxes you have those mesh grills for air inlet. Are you going to leave them like that or are you going to cover them up with some type of cloth or breathable paper to keep bug particles and dirt from getting into your motor? Or did you just fab the boxes up to the exact specs of a squared air filter? Maaan, that truck is sick.:faint: :faint:

the filter boxes hold a filter from an 05 grand cherokee. i mainly put the grille on to tone down the filter visability a little. im also fabing up grilles from expanded alum. kind of like street scene grilles. thanks for checking in bill

Looks like some late model gauges?

ParkRNDL 03-21-2010 03:46 PM

WOW. been a while since i checked in, that's fascinating... that shot of the dash gives me the sweats just thinking about having to sort all that out. isn't that the gauge cluster out of the Cad?

--rick (Chris' dad)

bill amsley 03-22-2010 06:53 PM

the guages are caddy ctsv,i almost have every thing working. rick dont let those wires scare ya, they just look intimadating. when you add the circuts 1 by 1 before you know it you have about a mile of wires. thanks for checking in bill

ccracin 03-23-2010 04:53 AM

It's really looking good Bill. Now that the Blizzards are hopefully over, I really want to get down and see this thing. Oh, and let me know if you need anything modeled. Happy to help a fellow Keystone Stater  out.

Curious as to what it takes to get the gauges to work right. Wanting to do something similar but with a different truck.

the caddy guages are simular to most late model guages, you will need a schematic of the guages to figure out what wires are what. then pick up the signal from the computer terminal. (thats avail from street & perf website) the tricky part is getting the message centre working in the cluster. i used the data wires from my dlc connector. then each time you ground the stearing wheel controll pin it advances to the next message. it takes a little research but wasnt very expensive. thanks bill

PASD U 03-28-2010 08:49 PM

Oh ok. I wonder how difficult then, a set of either 06-07 Silverado gauges or 02 Caddy Escalade gauges would be. Truck to truck but obviously some key things may run through the cluster information/computer wise.

if you would go with the basic silverado w/no message center its pretty simple, actually less wires than individual guages. a whole lot of info flows thru the green wire in your data link connector. (class 2 serial data) bill

boonedog 08-15-2010 11:22 AM

love the truck the only thing i dont think flows with it is the side mirrors they just look to big and bulky. I love everything else about it tho.

awr68 08-15-2010 04:50 PM

Great truck!!

I have to agree. I just read the build again, and love most everything about it. The mirrors are killing me too.:wow:

bill amsley 08-16-2010 06:14 PM

The thing w these mirrors is that they act as the front channel for the window. My last two builds, my mirrors looked cool but I couldn't see crap out of them. I guess that's why I could see so good out of these ,there to big. I think the missing Cowl panel makes them look bigger. Thanks for the feedback. Bill

I searched for more details, but can't seem to find the answer. Can you elaborate on this once more. What brand are the wheels, and what backspace did you run. What brand are the tires?

brakenit 10-15-2010 08:28 AM

The truck turned out really nice. I like the paint scheme.

I know you'd prefer to hear the answer straight from the source but I'm pretty sure I know what the tires are at least. The tires look like Nitto NT420S front and NT404 rear. My guess on the wheels are Boze Apex.

N2TRUX 10-16-2010 07:28 AM

I believe you are right. Unfortunately it's not what I wanted to hear. It seems Nitto has dropped the 305/40/20 from its line up, and no one else makes it.

I can't find a 305/40/20 or 315/40/20 anywhere.

The reason being is a tire that wide is strictly for performance only and a sidewall of 40mm is too tall. I'm with you though. For our trucks, we need a taller sidewall though. 305 and 315 widths are usually for Porches, Vipers, etc. Therefore, a 40 sidewall would look very awkward on a sports car sitting low to the ground with a taller tire. I guess is the gift and the curse, huh? Nitto more than likely dropped it from its lineup due to low sales and not a demand for it.
