got to do some road racing with this big old boat.it feels great to get to put the screws to it and listen to the turbos whine!!
http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps6e5c3685.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...psfadcb2cc.jpg WOW the lack of areodynamics really starts to show up at about 135!! I thought the hood was going to rip right off the car! looks like one of the next things on my list is to get some inner wheel wells and maybe some hood vents! http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...psc065a90b.jpg |
Here is a video that we put together at power cruise USA. in brainerd MN. please check it out and let me know what you think.

http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...psfa99f3e9.jpg machined some different centers for the wheels. this is what they will look like with the bembo brakes on the rear. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps687c72c1.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...pseb0b6a2a.jpg |

ok this just happened to fall in my lap and I just could not not pass it up so it looks like I got side tracked again! after alot of back and forth about fixing the car I decided to part the car out so I could use the front and the rear suspension for the firebird. so it looks like this will be taking my time for a couple of weeks.

At that speed you might want to consider Hood Pins. They are known to fly off on these cars.

ended up getting the car out of storage early to display the car for MSRA. at the MPLS. auto show. it will be on display there till next sun.if you have spring fever and need to get out of the house as bad as I do go check out some new and old cars there. It was a bit dicey driving the car there with freezing rain keep in mind that there is still over 3 feet of snow on the ground no heater,no wipers,no defrost and bald tires but we made it and it is there now. can't wait to do some major changes to the car coming up soon.:D so stay tuned for that.

I was there yesterday! Seeing your car was one of the highlights, for sure!

LOL, towing a camper and road racing? Nice job, it's cool to see a car in use rather than project mode!

oh it has been a ass kicker of a couple of weeks! decided to jump back on the Belair and make some big changes finally getting to the tires and wheels it did not go quite as planned the 305's were just a touch to big for the rear and had to go back and the 285's would work in the front with some slight a arm mods. however the front wheels were only 8.5" Not 9.5 that the guy told me they were so I used the 285's in the rear on a 10" rim and ordered up some 255's for the front the tires that I was running on the rear were 275/35/20 and the new 285/35/20's were 1.5" wider each makes no sense to me but this is were we are now and it is going to have to work!http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps25e131f0.jpg
http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps6b4d6091.jpg the rims were pretty curb rashed and they were also clear coated so it took forever to sand the dings and scrapes out of them. and i kind of like the brushed look to them! even more after sanding them for days! |
They look good Eric! I like the brushed look!

well this has been the biggest ass kicker that I have had in awhile! I have done a bit of research on a product called Plasti dip and some people are painting there cars with it and thought to myself hey what a perfect idea for this ugly paint job! you can spray it on then when your sick of it you can peel it off and the paint under it is perfect as the day you sprayed it! after lots of youtube videos I decided to give it a whirl flat black with black wheels sweetness coming up!
OR NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I spent weeks prepping for this removing emblems, lights, hood, trunk, tested the concept on a couple of test pieces. http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...504c3ab3-1.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps0e5b8f7e.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps57613e4b.jpg |
I don't understand..... are you happy with it OR NOT?? I don't get the "OR NOT" comment.
|
I paint with plasti dip all the time. This stuff is amazing I have been using it for a couple years and have painted all my cars with it including my 69 roadrunner

ok here is the rest of the story after spending tons of prep time and doing some test pannels that turned out awesome. we decided to spray the whole car using the recomended hvlp gun with a 1.4mm tip 2 of us started spraying the whole car shortly after starting we noticed how grainy it was changed the air pressure at the gun to only 20# and it was still drying in mid air and laying all over the car like sand so we figured spraying another coat will blend the first coat in or Not! ok now with the sick feeling in my stomach knowing there is nothing we can do at this point but spray more on to be able to peel it off there needs to be at least 3 coats. so after all 3 coats this is what the worst parts looked like.there is no sanding or fixing anything the way you spray it is the way that it looks.:bang:

I always use the pre thinned dip. It has better coverage and also a uv protector in it for fading
The best results will come from the spray unit the Dipyourcar.com sells. I have never had results like that from dip. I always get a great smooth finish. Distance when spraying dip is a huge key plus the amount that is being sprayed. The spray unit DYC sells produces a very fine spray that lays down like butter |

I just want to clarify I am in no way trying to bash the product I just want anyone else to go through what I just went through nothing like prepping, practicing, painting and peeling all in a couple of days!
http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...77b1f04d-1.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...psa8d711a6.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...bb3b5c70-1.jpg |
Let me know if you have any questions how to get the best results I have done tons of cars that turned out great. Just remember water is kryptonite to plasti dip. If there is any moisture in the gaps or cracks it will bubble. Also, not sure if you have already, but check out the forums on dipyourcar.com there is tons of info and senior dippers to answer any question

Man my infamous signature is getting covered up....

well it has been a azz kicker of a month but finally seem to be making progress! after having the plasti dip process go so wrong we peeled everything off and are going to give it a whirl again at a later time but for now it is back to the interior of the car to clean things up a bit.I have been driving the car for 6 years with no carpet and I think this is way over due!
http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ise2011119.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps0730a8ef.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps0845bf09.jpg Hoping to get everything back together to hit the last couple of legs on the power tour in a couple of days! |
Well I have no idea what happened but it is almost August and my spring list is not even done yet! life has been a blur this summer tons of stuff happening and lots of changes to the Belair have taking place and we have been driving the heck out of the car! tires and wheels are finally getting the abuse they were bought for! changes this year have been used tires and wheels off of a 7 series bmw.,and it looks like a 285/35/20 is the max tire with that you can possibly stuff in the factory wheel wells! carpet and under matting really made a huge difference in the noise in the car as did the new weather stripping, fan crapped out and was replaced with a Spal fan instead.,cpp master cyl. was replaced with a Wilwood with a 1" bore master, switched the car over to E85 fuel and my friend Carl of Lancer automotive re tuned the car with a more aggressive timing map and what a difference! and also pulled the camper on a couple of weekend camping excursions too! one involving road racing, drag racing and drove the camper there and back!
http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps2cd99608.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...psbdb0e3b7.jpg http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps782d8301.jpg I could not be happier with the way the car is going this year! |
Love the bike rack shot
