Well Time for the Monday update, we have gone alittle bit over board on some items, but we are waiting on some parts and just can't stand to leave it alone. Enjoy
We got the differential from Strange today with the just released to sell 35 spline True Trac positraction. The Chassisworks axle housing is pretty slick lookin also. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009094.jpg Just a picture of the rear suspension completely TIG welded into position, with the Ricks Stainless fuel tank in position. They sure do sell a nice unit. We got this one with their Bosch fuel pump installed inside the tank. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009085.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009088.jpg We are starting on the interior panel designs and placement. We will be cutting out the complete interior structure to replac eit with these panels. Wait till you see the doors and the floors panels. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009099.jpg Enjoy |

So I borrowed the scales again yesterday. Most all the parts are on the car, We lack, fluids, plumbing, and lexan windows, exhaust, mufflers, driveshaft, light weight floor insulation, wiring and and few other small items. We also do not have the actual wheels and tires on the car
For not making any adjustments to the coilovers to move weight around it is coming out nicely. Our goal of under 3000 lbs without 260lb driver should be pretty easily done. Maybe 3100lbs with driver?????? http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009109.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009110.jpg Here is a picture of the start of the dash, We plan to get busy on the engish wheel to build the rest of it very soon. The interior panels are continuing. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009115.jpg I'm getting nervous about some parts we cannot live without. |
Looks good Rodger, as usual.
Keep us posted please. |
You guys have some serious skill....it's going to be tight on weight.
|
We prefer to call it LUCKY..
As far as weight under 3000 with out driver should be easy. With driver, well I did not say who was driving.......With my 260lbs everything is tight. |
sick! I can't wait to see this interior

Some pics for a Friday
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009117.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009118.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009123.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ber2009124.jpg Enjoy have a nice weekend. |
So Rodger what wheels are you going with? haha
|
I've been following this post since conception and I really appreciate all the 'weight' data you have been providing. Some of the magazines lately have been focusing on weight savings and so I think it's a hot item as of late. I noticed your Friday pictures and the metal plates you recently installed that will provide mounting for your lexan windows. I'd be curious to know much much weight difference there is between the glass that normally goes in those spots versus the lexan+metal plates. I may be building a track car in the near future and was considering the lexan windows myself. Any information on that is greatly appreciated! Also, I read through the thread again and couldn't tell if you went with moly for your cage? I apologize if I missed that info somewhere.
By the way, the concept renderings are absolutely sick. I hope you get the car 'finished' in time for the Optima challenge. It's quite amazing the progress your team is making. :hail: |
put those window surrounds back in my floor lol
looks sweet, are you going to set them with flush allen screws that would set thevibe off very nicely |

Funny you should say that, The center is powder coated. We are trying to decide whether to leave the hoops brushed or go with the black powder coated hoop. ?????????
Rodger |
|
That's what I think he should do, go black on the hoops. Better make the decision within the next few mins though haha.
|
Well it is black, We changed the plan with minutes to spare.
Black it is. We will rely on Jay to give us an updated pic when they are back from powder coat. Rodger |
I considered black lips on my Forgelines as well. I was worried about the tire and lip blending in photos and from a distance. At least your car is orange. I think it would of been a disaster on mine.
|
How much do the rims weigh?
|
When I get them back I can weigh them. I will post some pics to. They are gunna look nice.
|
Rodger do they make that wheel in a three piece??

A while back we had talked about doing are own one off wheels, well when we started fitting up the wheels on the car, we figured out that the backspace numbers were a lot less then a ideal for our wheel design and with our mono block idea for the wheels they would end up massive to machine, be very heavy and just not ideal to put on this car. Plus I felt that designing a one off set might be counter productive to the goal with this build. We wanted to assemble a car with Quality aftermarket parts that are commonly available for some one with some fab and design talent to assemble in the garage. We are trying to have above average results with bolt on parts. Granted we are doing a few things above and beyond, but there is no heavy duty chassis fab work or tons of engineering that we typically do on alot of our projects. The most intensive fab work done on this car is the rollcage, which was pre-bent, the interior panels that we have been replacing, and the bolt in window flanges for the lexan windows. The only thing above average is probably the cost of the parts, we have gone over budget on that for sure. But I think the results have been good so far. So there you go a 20 minute answer for your simple question. I just wanted to explain why we made the change in the build. Enjoy |

PS, how about a 'tri-wing' screw instead of an allen style. We used them on L1011 aircraft and they are over-torque reduction fasteners. I'll see if I can find a pic - or get some from the basement stockpile. Jim |

It is set up for #10 screws, see what you have for a recessed pan head. If you scuff up the lexan the black paint will stick to the back side.
Rodger |
Jim, do you have a big box of those? That would be slick.
Rodger |
I'll have to check and see. I have jars full of that stuff - but might not have enough of the 10's or in the recessed pan head version.
Alcoa makes them in steel: http://www.alcoa.com/fastening_syste...asp?cat_id=733 I also found them in stainless at Crouch Sales Inc. Neither come in black that I've found yet. |

These wheels are 2 Piece. Maybe sometime in the near future we will get into 3 Piece. Can't wait to see them with the black lip. |
