That's awesome Wayne!

tones2SS 01-19-2011 04:25 PM

Very awesome to hear Wayne. That's awesome.
Hopefully it doesn't snow Friday. I hard them saying maybe 6 inches?:(
Better get that temporary pole down!:_paranoid

waynieZ 01-19-2011 06:24 PM

The guy who is doing my gutters called to say he was coming tomorrow because of Friday's forcast. So it looks like the storm will help me get it done sooner. Sweet.

Jay Hilliard 01-20-2011 04:11 AM

Awesome Wayne. Its good to see everything is coming together so well. Everything looks really nice.

What are your plans for storage, electrical, etc in the garage?

waynieZ 01-20-2011 06:57 AM

Thanks Jay. As far as storage I'm thinking of putting storage like Scott did in his garage but only down the right side and along the back wall. I'll put my work bench along the back wall so I might be able to drop the bottom of the shelf a little lower and then mount my light on the bottom of the storage.I'm going to keep the left wall clear at the top incase I can afford a lift so I can have the head room I need.
The panel in the garage is a 200 amp panel with a 100 amp going to the house. The garage panel has 40 spaces for full size breakers. So I'm pretty well set for what ever I need. I'm going to run the recepticals for my bench along the front that way the cords won't be in the way. I'm not sure on how many or which kind of lights yet.

So,....there may be a good reason for snow after all!
Good luck Wayne. Very nice.

Jay Hilliard 01-20-2011 03:19 PM

Make sure when you wire it, put in a 50a-220v recepticle for a welder.

waynieZ 01-20-2011 06:13 PM

The guy came and did the gutters today. It took one guy about 4 hours to finnish the job. He did some nice work. Here are some pictures of the work.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ures/002-4.jpg
This corner was tricky, the porch roof is a couple of inches higher than the house roof. He did a nice job matching it.

Then I got a call around 11 am from the garage door guy he wanted to install the track and opener today because he had a cancelation. He came down and started installing it. They got the track in and were adjusting the springs . The door was light when it was down and heavy when it was half way up. He said they sent the wrong springs so it won't be done until next week.

Atleast I got to see it open halfway.

Oh well they tried.

waynieZ 01-27-2011 08:08 PM

This has been a pretty good week for progress. The door guy called , the springs came in . He came down Monday and installed them and the LiftMaster 3800. The door is finnaly finnished and usable. The cable was attached to the temporary power pole and had to be run through the garage to the house. That got done too. I have some pictures that were taken with a only the 300 watt compact fuoresent that screws in a regular socket. Its pretty good it only uses 68 watts and is pretty bright.

Wow, Wayne, things are really coming together. With the crappy forecast, I bet you can't wait for insulation, drywall, lights and heat, but having the car in the garage will be big by itself. The rest can happen anytime, because it's yours and it's not going anywhere. Good luck.

Ric

waynieZ 01-27-2011 09:38 PM

Thanks Ric I can't wait to get it home. I hope the snow holds up for a while not much room to put it.

Vegas69 01-27-2011 09:39 PM

I don't see near enough electrical in the rafters. Get a ton of light in that garage. You'll thank me when you start twisting wrenches. How much did that garage door opener cost? Thinking of converting mine when I get a hoist.

waynieZ 01-27-2011 09:49 PM

I plan on alot more lights. That is just to hold me over untill the wallet stops bleeding a little. The Liftmaster cost me $340 with two extra remotes plus what came with it. It is a great opener, it is super quiet.

tones2SS 01-29-2011 09:15 AM

Awesome news Wayne. First the car, now the garage. Gotta love when a plan comes to together! Good for you bud.

waynieZ 01-29-2011 10:13 AM

Thanks Tony Do you believe this weather I was out there cleaning up with the door open. Crazy

vinz68 01-29-2011 11:23 AM

Looks like it really came together nice!! Congrats!!

vinz68 01-29-2011 11:28 AM

If you plan on finishing the wiring yourself, let me know if you have any questions. I'm an electrical contractor.:)

waynieZ 01-29-2011 02:01 PM

Thanks Vin.

Take care bud.

waynieZ 02-01-2011 10:56 AM

OK today was inspection day The building inspector came by and passed the garage. Just need to cover one corner with either 1" strip of sheet rock or a corner bead and mud and he'll be good. Here's where he's talking about.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ictures018.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ictures019.jpg

The fire department just left from inspecting the fire and heat alarms. Now that it passed we can use the garage. Just intime for this new snow crap! Stay warm guys
We're good to go!
Wow I can't believe this is finnally done for now. No more inspectors!!

And the first use!!!

I hear ya Mike.

Alex396ss 05-18-2011 06:28 AM

Any updates?

Alex

waynieZ 05-18-2011 11:53 AM

Hi Alex. I started getting some material to do some wiring. I got 750 ft of 12-2 romex and 18 industrial recepticles with boxes. I also put a second 300w compact flourescent in for now. Its amazing the amount of light from these two bulbs . Right now there is one over each bay. I got the wire off Craiglist in three 250ft coils. With shipping to my house was around $75 ea. which is cheaper then buying them from HD. Its $83 ea plus tax, Saved close to $50. The recepticles came from E bay they cost me with shipping around $4 ea they sell at HD for around $8-9 ea. A couple of weeks ago I saw a set of attic stairs for a 12' cieling Werner 300lb rated aluminum. The budget for the garage and the car are almost non existent now, so it was tuff to spend the money on these but when I checked they sell for over $400 for the 12' set. So I got them.
Here's a picture of the stairs.

This was taken with just the compact flourescents.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ictures136.jpg

Here are the recepticles.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...252gy-ea-3.jpg

Now I need something pretty to put in there. ZOOM ZOOM !

GregWeld 05-18-2011 04:53 PM

Wayne -- Run a GFIC as your FIRST receptacle. People don't realize it but concrete can ground you out when you're down on your hands and knees... so you can get your butt kicked with a shorted tool etc.

At least that's what my buddy electrician made me do - for that reason...

waynieZ 05-18-2011 05:34 PM

Thanks Greg. I only learned about thet a couple of weeks ago so I bought 4- 20amp GFCI breakers for $15 Ea. I used to laugh at my wife for using coupons. Now I'm the craigslist and E Bay king lol.

tones2SS 05-18-2011 05:40 PM

Very nice Wayne. Continued progress my friend!

Built a little work bench for the garage

I've got a little up date. I started building a work bench along the back wall of the garage. I had some wood left over from the build so I put it to good use. Some of it reminded me of the road courses you guy run or sort of how I like my women ( a little twisted ). The bench is 12' L x 32 W x 42 H it is attached to the wall with Hex Washer Head Tapcon's. I divided the length by three for the up rights and added a cross brace a 2x4 at the 8' mark so I would have something to secure the plywood I'm using for a top. It will be two 3/4" pieces doubled up. I used cad plated deck screws to build it. I just threw some pieces of plywood on top for now so I can get back on the car. I'll get the plywood ripped and attach it after I'm done putting in some shelves and a few more up rights.
Here are a few pictures.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...t/000_1101.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...t/000_1105.jpg
The last bay ended up perfect to fit my old wheels and tires.

waynieZ 07-17-2014 08:18 PM

got out in the garage today, this was actually a 2 day job first I put pvc conduit from my main panel to my compressor disconnect.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psd6718c2f.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps5afcf68d.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps2ddcf150.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps5289304b.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps24232cce.jpg

Then it was time to pull the 2#8 power and #10 ground the 30 feet. No one around so I used my s20 year old shop vac taped to the end of the pve near the main to pull some braided line through the pipe so I could pull the wires. Got the line through only took 20 minutes. Then came time to pull the wire. I was all alone so I got my friend Bell to help Dumb bell that is. I tied the weight to the end of the line and went back to the other end and fed the wires in. Amazingly it actually worked ! Only had one ladder at the time so it was pull move the ladder then repeat. Must have gone up and down at least 100 time easy. Then I gave in and got my extension ladder to use on one end.
Here's my little helper.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps29d58e00.jpg

I tied the line to the garage door because the weight kept hitting a shelf below the panel and would only pull 3' of wire at a time. I have a video of it working but can't load it to Photobucket for some reason. I'll try again later. All in all a very productive day.

GregWeld 07-17-2014 08:24 PM

You know they make fish tape for that... and wire slime to make the wire glide in the conduit....

HAHAHAHAHAHA

I love the ingenuity! Good job!!

waynieZ 07-17-2014 08:31 PM

Where's the fun in that ?? It felt great being out there doing something again.

Good to hear. I saw Pete and Brian at a car show last year. Actually, I saw them a couple of times last year. Sometimes he's up at Patriot Place with that '68 Camaro that they built.
Take care bud.
