I didn't go thru the whole thread ------ but here's Timmy's website... http://www.diversstreetrods.com/projects/ It's Bob Dando's '57 Caddy This is a couple I took maybe two years ago --- and were real preliminary.... http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_0604.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_0607.jpg |
Interesting. On there website it looks like they used bigger wheels for mock up. Maybe those centers aren't welded onto those hoops. Thanks for the pics.

So, after hearing "one more week" for about 3 months on the engine for my 59, I towed that heap down to the shop so I could get back to work on the Brougham.
What did I do? Pretty much nothing. Well, I did clean out the garage and get the car back on the lift, which requires the use of a winch because my driveway isn't flat. Aside from that, what's better than getting a pretty 2 piece carbon fiber driveshaft in the mail? Putting it up in the car to see that it fits perfectly. Thanks to DSS!!! Great clearance everywhere, just need to build a heat shield above the exhaust. http://imageshack.us/a/img20/4784/t4lh.jpg Full extension- http://imageshack.us/a/img138/2933/p5m8.jpg Full compression- http://imageshack.us/a/img703/35/hcho.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img46/9398/s0ci.jpg |
Yowza! Love that driveshaft
|
That driveshaft....
|
Yeah Jim but look who's building your engine, well I assume its Eric?? His famous words have always been two weeks :bang: :hello:
By the way love the drive shaft!!! |
:wow: I want one of those for my car. That's the kind of bling I love. :bang: I better look away quick.
 |

Nice bead roller dude!!
Is that the Mag brake?? I just bought a vertical bandsaw and a new cold cut saw from Shane... and am very happy with them and his service! |

Your gonna need a bigger shop with all these cool tools and BIG cars!! |
Can't wait to see the fins you crank out now. ;)
:flashie: |
Thanks Greg and yes, that's the mag brake. Really looking forward to using it! The cold saw looks really nice, may be a future purchase. Next priority is buying back my old tig welder however.
Rick, any time! Anyone who doesn't own a Torino is alright by me. :poke: Working on a bigger shop. I have the girlfriend on board to moving into a big shop with living quarters. Or if I can find a just a smaller house with an outbuilding. Skip, the fins are staying as-is :) , just want to cut everything out that I've already done and make it nicer. Floors, trunk, radiator support/etc. |

Actually I was kiddingly suggesting that you go into 'fin production' ... cuz as we know, the more fins the better. :D |

Good luck. Mike |
More tools! I've been working on the stainless turbo manifolds. Decided I wanted to finish that up before getting into the sheetmetal work.

NOW WE'RE TALKIN' !!!
A guy just has to have some tools! |
I'm envious, you got the water cooled torch! I'd be interested to know how you like the HTP once you have some bonding time.
|
Right you are Greg! Having to tack something up then wait till Monday to weld it at work doesn't help progress.
Sieg, if it's at least as good as the previous 201 model I'm sure I will love it. Having used the 201 for so many years I didn't even look at other welders, the HTP stuff is great. I like to do a lot of aluminum welding and that's where the water cooled torch is really nice. Other than that it's not so much of a concern. |
Dam Jim
I'm not sure if I'm more envious of your Caddy or your tool collection:headscratch: Is that 59 on the road yet? Any new pics of the 57?:topic: More Caddy.:popcorn2:  |
59 is collecting dust, still waiting on motor and trans :hitaxeonthehead:
Finally accomplished something on the 57! As mentioned, I'm re-doing a few things I've already done once, or twice. I first made the turbo system by modifying 2010 camaro cast steel manifolds, which I was happy with until the new ZL1's came out with cast stainless manifolds, so I had to rebuild them. Fixtured the first set so I didn't have to start from scratch as far as placement of the flanges. This thick stainless is not easy to work with but they are finally (roughly) finished. Still need tons of sanding as I plan to have the manifolds/turbine housings/downpipes polished. http://imageshack.us/a/img27/3762/kfjh.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img109/5873/m1r6.jpg |
Nice Jim!!
As for the 59 I could have finished it already you know :poke:  |
that's one BAD Caddy,nice work so far:thumbsup:
|
I love the manifolds man. I had no idea the ZL1's were stainless. Those things are gonna look killer all polished up.
What accessory drive do you have? |
Thanks guys.
Rick, I know, but then I would have to pay for it which at the moment would be a problem. The accessory drive is Wegners. Decided I needed a bigger compressor to run the dual A/C systems so they put this system together. 8-rib as well, very nice. |
This build just keeps upping the ante.:king:
|
Like most everything else I've done, I decided to rebuild the floors that I boxed in around the frame. The floors to either side of the frame were beat up a bit and also there wasn't much room for your foot on the outboard sides. Soooo, I cut it all out and started over. The Baileigh brake and bead roller work awesome. The ancient band saw is kicking ass as well. Not sure how I survived without this stuff. http://imageshack.us/a/img842/8339/0op7.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img22/4221/oxvy.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img51/4451/ina6.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img69/214/x64z.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img833/4230/2xr8.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img189/9818/i4tf.jpg |
Looks great, love the craftsmanship!

From the looks of the motor build , you might want to buy some stock in tire manufactures ... lol
Love it !! |
Looking good Jim
You can tell it's getting cold out here, your making progress!! |

Haha, thanks guys! Got the drivers side in place today. Now just a few miles of tig welding.

great to see your still chipping away at this I hope to see this thing on the road next summer!
|
Very Nice!

Lurker here.... Me likie.

Thanks guys. Eric, on the road next summer? LOL Maybe if I win the lotto or I'm towing it somewhere.
Finished welding in the rear floors. I'm happy with the result. Perfect 1/4 gap on either side of the frame. It was actually a complete pain in the ass. The original floors are very thin metal and it was hard to contort myself into a good welding position while still being able to see through the mask. (or propping the pedal up on the firewall). Trunk floor is next. Trying to decide spare tire location. Off to one side makes the most sense in terms of maximizing trunk space but I also think it would be neat to display it by tilting it up and centering it in the trunk. Hmmmm... http://imageshack.us/a/img849/1927/g0c8.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img89/9939/glat.jpg |
Six thumbs up! Nicely done!
