Trying to refine it a little before I decide if I like it and start tigging panels together.

I used these sexy little units, usually used in offroad circles.

|
Good gawd Ron! Hurry up already!
Between you and Dave and his "street car" (named Desire?).... Social Security will be broke and out of business before you two get these done. It looks great BTW....:D |
When you did your Mustang I remember you saying you MIG'ed it all "as it would have taken forever to TIG".
Are you now a TIG convert for sheet metal ? I've been converting to TIG too, when I can get the gaps tight. The more "visible" it is the more I gravitate towards it, assuming I can get a hammer and dolly on it afterwards. But I'm still quick to grab the MIG when I need something simple or "non-visible". Usually what happens is my panel gap varies a bit here and there, so I TIG everything that's tight, and MIG the wider gaps. My favorite thing about the TIG is the piece doesn't move around so much when you are tacking it like the MIG. I've been widening my Mustang 4" so I'm deep into this phase (again) myself. The design is looking good-for an AMX  |

And Social Security is already bankrupt, so Dave and I can take our time. |

Yeah I'm tigging everything I can. To be honest I just hate the sparks of the mig anymore. I do use it for tacking just because I'm usually holding the panel with my other hand, and even then I burn the hell out of my forearms. |

Finally realized I have been going about this all wrong. I don't need bulges, I need boxes.

4 wheelbarrows ought to do the trick.....
|
I was chatting with Ron about this and had a side shot of both a two seater AMX and a later humpster style. So I did a little tweaking and morphing for him.

Started shortening the 3" out of the hood. Had to deskin the hood panels, cut the under side of the hood shorter. Then fabricate the new back section of the out of 3/4 x 3/4 angle to the contour of the cowl. Have to make some hinge pockets, and fillers, then put the skin back on.

How far from Newark DE are you? Know you are in Maryland somewhere. Maybe I can help muscle things around and you could teach me something. Followed the Mustang and this build on the PT site, that site is no fun, came here to watch this build.
Random :walkingdog: :knock: |
Seems that AMX's are in vogue now ;)

This place has become too much of a hang out now. LOL I have to park my truck behind the garage just to get anything done (way too much beer drinking and bs flying around here)Truely nothing seems to be getting done.
I wouldn't have built an AMX unless they were Vogue. Anybody that knows me, knows how GQ I am. LOL |
There's Beer drinking and hanging out in your garage? I might just have to drive up for some of that!

Finally getting a little time over the long weekend. Got the core support made and bolted down, I've totally given up on the hood, and plan on ordering a fiberglass one. Got the side of the fender welded, and will hopefully get the top done this week.

Car is looking good Ron! Done by next year??

I'm hoping, have been trying to pick up all the parts I might need. Still have a few major things to buy (an engine, wheels, etc.)
What I really need is time to work on it, life has been crazy here lately. The bad part is, its so long between work sessions, that I can't remember where I left off. Takes hours staring at the car before I even get started wrenching. |

Jeee!!! Thats nice to hear...i was thinking i was alone doing that!! Lol! Between that and swiping the floor and keeping the shop organized i do nothing !! Car is looking kick ass! Love your style... always. :king: Lead. |
x3 it's why I do very little to the car other than research ideas and make plans etc. I gave up trying to do anything while still doing working my current job.
Glad to see it coming together, Ron. The fender looks great! |
Christmas came early at my house. New fiberglass hood showed up awaiting my butchery. A lot lighter then the steel part, and wwwaaayyyy straighter.

That looks bad ass Ron. What are your plans for it? :welder:
|
Nice Ron!
Who knew they made FG versions for those cars! Not kidding - I'm really surprised -- and only because you know - there's probably not that many being built overall - but maybe there is?? Great project - now hurry up already! |
