Yes I played with moving it rearward but stuck with the RH forward location.

It worked there and I'm afraid of making the lines too long for a LS7/9 oil pump setup.

Looking good:thumbsup: Do you have removable down bars by the seats or just not using them?

waynieZ 07-12-2012 10:39 PM

Its looking amazing. I love to watch your builds. I have so much to learn

Sonar Chief 07-13-2012 07:43 AM

Amazing build in such a short time .... looks fine :hail: :hail: :hail:

The lack of the rear package tray and the uprights for the back seat -- deleted?

Steve68 07-13-2012 07:53 AM

I built harness's on the shuttle for years, nice work so far,

Sonar Chief 07-13-2012 02:29 PM

And that dash doesn't look like a 67 dash from the back, looks like a 69?

Nice touch ....

Beautiful work on the wiring, I love details like that.

The spacer is .850" thick to allow the stack up to be correct to run a LS9 twin disk cllutch in front of a TR6060 with a 2002 style bellhousing. D&D Perfromance made the spacer and sells them.

I'm on the edge on the stock LS9 clucth but it drives great with very low effort and a great feel.

We build all the wiring from scratch. If you start with a GMPP LSA harness it is much easier.

Ryan Kuhlenbeck also wired Red Devil and we used that as a templete for this build.

The VanNus's (Dutchboys Restoration) is starting to shoot color tomorrow so I'm getting closer to getting the car back.

Mark the wiring looks great! Question for you how come you do not run a scatter shield?? So when are we going to see the color??? :willy:

Jtomas801 07-15-2012 02:16 PM

Hi Mark,

Did D&D performance do any tricks on the inside of the transmission, or is it stock from the factory? Also I see an oil pump for the trans, are you just using the fill and drain ports to remove the oil or is there some sort of spray bar in there?

The car is coming along nice hopefully I will be able to see it in person one day.

Thanks,
Jon

HEY Mark, where do you buy all your wiring blank plugs and etc.? I'm still using GM weather pack stuff but sometimes I need more then 5-6 slots.

I can't answer for Mark, but the company I work for does some GM harness work for the aftermarket. We have found powerandsignal.com to be your best bet for higher quantity orders and mouser.com to be the best for low quantity.

So, from what I can see, Mark keeps an extra sub frame in the garage just in case?:D
The wiring is fantastic. I wish I could do this type of detail.

D&D Perf said the TR6060 is good as is.

We are using a Weldon oil pump to run the oil to a cooler and sucking out of the drain and returning into the fill port.

We get most of the connectors from Mouser and some from GM service parts.

I've watched your builds since I joined this site. I figured you had something. I've been planning my Chevelle for 20 something years. you can build more cars than 'I can plan. Thanks for giving us these updates. I learn something everytime I see a post.

Mark, do you have any plans for a Nova? I thought I seen something years ago that you owned the 72 Nova that W2W turned into the Super Sleeper.

Ketzer 07-16-2012 06:29 PM

Oh man, a Stielow Nova would be effin' sweet!!

carbuff 07-16-2012 06:31 PM

Mark,

From the pictures, it appears that you are running the stock bellhousing, unless that was just for mockup. Is that correct? At the power levels you are making, do you not think you would want something stronger? Or is your opinion that the stock bellhousing would be sufficient in case of a clutch failure?

Also, on your transmission cooler, I don't know what transmission temps are supposed to be, but I think I just read that the Weldon pump is thermostatically controlled. Is that correct, and do you run within that window, or do you control/override it somehow?

Finally, what size lines are you running to/from the trans cooler? I would think that a heavy weight oil like that would need larger lines, but I think I read that the pump is set up for -6AN lines?

As always, appreciate the education!

clill 07-16-2012 06:51 PM

The problem with a Nova is it costs just as much to build as a Camaro if not more and when you are done and ready to sell it you will probably have half as many Nova buyers and will be lucky to get half as much.

I'm using this setup - Weldon pump drawing from the drain, returning through the fill, with a small FluidDyne cooler, on my D&D T56. No T-stat - just a switch. With the cooler on, temps typically stay below 200F. On a couple of occasions when I forgot to flip the switch, temps would climb into the high 200s by 10 minutes into a track session, and shifting would start to get sticky.

In "normal" driving, temps never exceed low 200s without the cooler on.

One thing we did was use a single fluid temp gauge with sensors in the diff, trans, and engine, then use a 3-way switch to select which is displayed. I'll usually monitor engine oil temp during a run, then check on trans and diff temp during the cool-down lap. I'm not running a diff cooler, and have seen 260-270 diff temps with synthetic diff fluid on hot days. Marginal, but not enough to have me figure out how to package diff cooling in my setup just yet. Oh, and don't get me started on all of the tricks we had to use to keep diff fluid from being pumped out during a session ...

In my case I'm using a QuickTime 4th-gen F-body housing. SFI rated, and still relatively light. I figure I wouldn't need it if I was confident I would never hit 3rd while upshifting to 5th - but I'm not quite that confident :)

So true; And starter cars aren't that far apart on price either.

People always give me a hard time for building "another First Gen Camaro". I build Camaro's because I really like them and when you it comes time to sell them they are easy to sell. I also have a ton of spare parts....

Any teaser pics of the final color choice?

Greg from Aus 07-18-2012 03:31 AM

Mark,

Are you using a oil pump for diff cooling? if so can you let me know were you are running the return to, I'm using a weldon pump and trying to work out how to plumb it.

Thanks
Greg

b757jetdr 07-18-2012 09:44 AM

Hello Mark,
I have a quick question for you, what was the reason you went with a full roll cage (at least from the pics) vs a 4 point like you used in Red Devil?? I am in the building stages of a 69 and was going to do the full cage with enginge bay bars etc.. (not sure if thats the proper term) but I talked it over with my builder (Billy Utley) and came to the decision that for what I am going to use the car for a 4 point will work for me. I still toss the idea around to be honest as I can see my self getting this car done taking it to the track and really getting addicted to the track events. I plan to use the car for street, cruises, and some track events. I thought I remembered reading a bilp from you once that you never use anything more than a 4 point, then this car popped up so just wondered if there was a reason?

Also one last question, what did you use to wrap/cover your wire bundles with??

I love your car and look forward to seeing it come together. I am hoping to have mine close to done next summer!
