This last picture is an excellent example of why you powder coat or paint the fuel tank black on these cars. HAHA

Back to work.

Looks wicked. Black on the tank for sure. What do you suggest to clean up the look of that brake reservoir? :lmao:

Good to meet you at GNRS. Congrats on the sales.

Vince@Meanstreets 01-28-2013 09:41 PM

It was nice meeting you also. I was amazed we went all weekend with that unpainted reservoir on the firewall and no one puked or passed out. Greg did not even say one word about it either. Maybe he was saving his comment for Latg blog post.

It's about time.

We have been hammer down getting the fab work wrapped up on this project. It really is coming together nicely. For a restored paint job 1970 Chevelle with a vinyl top it is turning out pretty slick. I can't wait to get this this car on the road and enjoy it for what it is intended to be.

Here are some pictures of the progress.

The Aluminum interior package we set up. We used door handles from a Jeep and are building the interior panels from Aluminum.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...-9-2013002.jpg

We ordered a set of Firewall down bar parts from Holohans Rod shop to use for the down bars. There parts are very nice. I could not find any other parts that would work as well as these. They make a great addition to the look we are going for.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...26-2013012.jpg

The inner fenders have been widened and reshaped to accept this big of a tire at the ride height. But the results are awesome. Broc knocked them out of the park. And they look factory.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...19-2013004.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...19-2013003.jpg

We are getting the exhaust system all wrapped up. I love a properly built stainless exhaust. Henry did a great job on it.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...-2-2013012.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...-2-2013013.jpg

The chassis as a complete roller. There are more trick in the chassis then any frame we have ever done to get it the car to sit like it does.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...26-2013020.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...26-2013019.jpg

Finally if you have not seen the complete gauge cluster, it is amazing.

That chassis ought to get the job done ya think??

Che70velle 03-06-2013 11:48 AM

Bravo to you guys at Ironworks! The Chevelle is street clean, and just plain bad! The drivetrain, the stance, the interior...this is one cool A-body!

intocarss 03-06-2013 11:52 AM

No matter what GW thinks, It's a great build ;)

WSSix 03-06-2013 06:31 PM

Looks great! Don't the down bars need to tie into a cage in order to be functional or are they just for show on this car?

Ideally tying them into a rollcage would be best. But we installed them to add some front end stability and to give us a place to mount the triple adjustable reservoirs. I suppose in reality the bars should be a continuous section of the rollcage but that would require. So any of the connectors unless properly added to the cage are kinda just for show or not doing what they could. \

This car is intended as a low speed autocross car and for lots of fun on the street. So we decided the cage might be a bad idea as a street car.

WSSix 03-07-2013 06:50 AM

Thanks Rodger. I had always thought that was the case given how thin a firewall really is. I just wasn't sure.

The firewall is quite thin but we purposely landed the joint up high on the firewall to use the strength the kick panel floor vents create. So there is a really strong section these massive joints weld to on both sides of the firewall. granted it is no where near what a 10-12 point cage would be. But this car will be driven 99.9 percent of the time with out a helmet and if you have not heard me soap box session about rollcages in street cars, I will save you. Its on here quite a few times.

Jay Hilliard 03-07-2013 08:03 AM

Well done. Chassis looks amazing. Really love the dash! Great job as always.

ironworks 03-19-2013 12:05 PM

The clock is winding down. Del Mar is just a few weeks away.

We have the chassis ready to go under the body. I usually hate installing a body on the chassis when it looks so good.

I like frames like that that are just total function but in the function it just looks so ready for business.

Swain 03-19-2013 12:32 PM

That looks bad ass

214Chevy 03-19-2013 12:44 PM

You're right, that's just too beautiful to put a body on it. Like looking at Playboy when I used to sneak and do it when I was about 10-12 years old. :hairpullout:

intocarss 03-19-2013 12:50 PM

That's awesome, just bolt a seat on it and go

Al Moreno 03-19-2013 01:39 PM

Another great build from Ironworks! Roger re the plans to have it at Delmar?

I would love to misspell your name AL, but there is no way.

And Yes AL we plan to have it at Del Mar. Not complete with interior, but complete enough to hopefully autocross.

Nice, it is definitely a shame to put a body over that beauty. I love the build process, I think I like chassis pics more then finish pics. Ron

Agreed 100%. The build process is a ton of fun. I have customers that would push their project outside to die after the fab is over but they have too much invested to not see it through to completion.

ironworks 03-26-2013 05:50 PM

Getting the mock up dash set in the car. Looks good.
