Even the rack looks like a work of art. Did you make that as well?

lol. it was originally a conveyor that was close to the size that would work for me but had to be completely cut apart to re configure it the way i needed it to be.i have had this in my head for years now and just did not have the extra cash or the time to make this happen sometimes things just line up and you change gears to make the plan come together. lots more coming up on this one!

E.rodz 02-08-2016 07:44 AM

made a little more progress or anti progress depending on how you look at it???

thanks for clearing this up for me. i don't have the time to keep up on all of the forums.

E.rodz 03-28-2016 10:24 AM

finally! it is time to get some work done on the Chevelle again! fabbed up some pans to trim off the HPI. frame kit to help keep the turbulence down at 200mph. lol. used a manual bead roller with tipping dies then machined a die for punching and counter sinking the mounting holes and used a small manual arbor press.now to figure out how to mount them.

Always see neat stuff on which ever forum I see you posting. Nice to see you getting the frame table useable and back to work on the Chevelle. I need to find a ready source of cheap metal. Repurposing makes it a lot cheaper, and having the tools makes it easier, too. I'd say you have progressed very well in the years since you started posting. Thanks for sharing as always!

Frame trim panels

How does the bead roller make the panel recessed in the center without the outside edge being affected ? Is it the placement of the dies top to bottom or how they are machined ? Thanks

thanks for the interest in my projects and i 100% agree recycled is the way to go on so many levels you just have to be looking all the time Not just when you need it. stock pile the material until you get enough rounded up to complete the project. i think i have been side tracked enough in the last couple years now it is time to get back on the Chevelle again!

I could attempt to explain this but this would be better here is a link to a great metal shaper showing how this works. i hope this helps.

made a little more progress on the frame. got slammed by the flu bug and it kicked my azz so bad i am just trying to get back on track again. i wish i would have decided to go this low with it in the first place. but i did not want to cut up the perfect original floor and trunk so i made it fit and now that plan is out the window and i am just going to make everything fit the new frame a chassis mods. don't follow me i have no idea what i am doing!lol. i am just making this up as i go.

Ok seriously, what are you up to bro? Don't leave us hanging like this...

This has to be one of our favorite build threads to date. The fab work is absolutely incredible! We should have been subscribed 22 pages ago!

Thank you for the interest in my project.my plan is to run a t56 trans in it and am on the fence about what clutch can handle 1000 whp. and not be to aggressive to drive every day on the street? hoping to get things on a roll soon so stay tuned in for more.

HEEP 05-09-2016 07:53 AM

Scott, I'm with you on this. I got lost on cutting the front. But, as we have seen before in this thread, Eric always comes up with something very interesting and unique.

We've seen the other work he has done. Amazing stuff to say the least.

Our DYAD sounds like it would be a perfect fit for you! Its a dual-disk with nice light pedal pressure, and can hold over 1300 ft/lbs, so it works perfectly for high-power street cars. We offer it with an aluminum or lightened steel flywheel, and recommend the latter for smooth, stock-like driving around town. If we can answer any questions about it, feel free to send us a quick PM.

man i have just been getting my azz kicked lately my wife has been in and out of the hospital, funerals, wakes, helping everyone and there brothers with everything, and a billion other things that have been really slowing down progress on the chassis. but still chipping away a little at a time. bought a splined sway bar that i want to be a off the shelf bars and bushings and the frame is wider than my Belair so i decided to make it tuck so i can get as wide of tire as possible. more modifications! i even got my son to help me for a while and learn how to bend a 3/4 thick steel arm to better fit the contures of the frame.and also machined a couple of 3/8 thick pieces for the sway bar on a old school mill.

wow I guess it has been a while since I updated this thread life has just kicked the crap out of me again for the last few years and I feel like every time I get back up someone is there with a hammer to knock me back down again! I am hoping that I can get back on a roll and get the chassis done soon. here is where it is at now.

second try on the sway bar mods to get it to tuck in.

I know you know that can be true Marty! hope everything is good with you too!
I hope to really get rolling again and make progress for a change!

E.rodz 02-01-2017 07:42 AM

my new plan is to move the motor back another 2 to 3 inches, move the front suspension and crossmember up, design and fabricate a torque arm rear suspension with a watts link and get the motor mounts back on again!

progress has ben slow but steady ! things just have taking way to long to get here because of me being my worst enemy looking at every other chevelle and getting it to the ride height that the car needs to be at is way harder than I had thought that is was . I have been cringing on cutting the floors up on the only rust free car that I have ever had and it in not worth saving the floors and patching it everywhere I am just taking them out whole and making new ones instead so anyone looking for a perfect floor, trunk and wheelwells let me know shoot me an offer because they are coming out soon!

How much are you Z'ing the front frame section?

HEEP 02-28-2017 06:42 PM

Erik, amazed at what you are doing. Can't wait to see how this portion of the frame turns out.

As for the floors, if no one takes you up on them, I would be interested in a small section underneath the passenger rear seat. Got a little rust I would like to fix. Just don't need the whole section.

Looks cool its nice to see a "curvaceously" modified stock frame it definitely takes a lot more thought then just welding up a tube frame (although at the same time I'm not sure there is a big advantage to it either).

Keep on truckin'.

there was a couple of advantages of doing this one was I had already modified the front to make the swaybar tuck and smoothed the frame rails and this was moved up to gain front ground clearance and better suspension geometry at a low ride height.the biggest one for me is I have very limited funds and this was free!
