Nice job. I wanted to move my wipers to that spot but it never happened. It looks so much cleaner.

Awesome, thank you. I think I will do the same thing. |

Our buddy Brad Reikkoff from West Bend Dyno just sent me this picture of the KLRBRD engine in MSD's catalog for the Atomic EFI. Pretty cool.

Total Loss for this 69 Camaro
THIS IS NOT MY CAR (looks like it) but it sure pains me to imagine what the owner is going through right now.
A friend in our local North Texas Camaro club sent this picture out from his shop. Apparently a driver pulled out in front of this 69 Camaro and it was totaled. The car was only on the road for 3 days since being finished. It was a sweet build. LSA, DSE goodies custom interior. It was immaculate. The driver was injured with broken bones and bruises but is recovering. Really crappy story for a guy that put a bunch of time and money into this car. http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/...psoguwyokw.jpg I do give credit to the owner. He is looking to start over with another 69 so if you have a lead on a good 69 Camaro body, DSE or Roadster Shop chassis, let me know and I can connect you with the owner/builder. |
That's so unfortunate. Looks like the roll car did it's job some what. Luckily no one was ridingpassenger and hope for a speedy recovery to the owner
|
yikes!!! what hit him? a boat?
|
Looks like he may have tried to miss the car that pulled out in front of him and ended up going sideways into a large pole of some kind. Traffic light maybe.
Just another one of those times where no matter how careful of a driver you are, you cant account for the other idiots out there. Hope he has a quick recovery. |
Really sorry to see this. Was it someone I met while I was there?
I sure hope he has good insurance coverage, as starting over is going to be a big bill, and the other driver may not have sufficient coverage! |
It does kind of look like a boat hit it now that you mention it. He ended up hitting a pole. Not sure how it all went down, losing control, swerving to avoid a head on, not exactly sure but makes my stomach hurt just looking at the pics. I totally agree with your comment Chris.
Bryan, it was not anyone you would have met. The car was not done yet. It took 6 months to build. They installed an LSA, had a full frame with some DSE parts, brand new paint job, new interior and a bunch of other updates. It was only on the road 3 days! I would be in jail if this would have happened to one of my cars. I too hope he and the guy that caused it have good insurance coverages. Not going to be cheap to repair. |
When I scrolled down it gave me chills ! Glad he's going to be OK.

Glad your friend is ok, Jay.

Wheel Flare Redo on KLRBRD!
Been a while since we have given an update. Besides driving the Trans Am and now deciding to sell the Camaro, we sent the TA back to Dusold Designs for more aesthetic work.
We decided to redo the wheel flares and fix a few small dents on the lower part of the passenger door. The dents resulted from hitting the timing gear at a local autocross during a spin out at an event last May. We have not been happy with the fit of the flares since we got the car back together so we decided to have brackets fabricated to mount the carbon fiber flares, eliminate the welting and form fit them to the fenders. They will retain a seam as original but we are going to modify the flare to fit snug to the fender. We are respraying them cameo white and adding 3m protective film. We are excited to have this done. It has been a sore subject for Amy aesthetically. I will post some pics once we get the updates from the shop. In addition, we are having the window trim removed, restored, new clips and them polished for a cleaner look. As it relates to suspension, we are going to change the spring rate on the rear shocks from 225's to 400's. This will make the rear end more predictable and reduce the loading from side to side we experience. We have never liked the "feel" of the rear of the car. Always felt loose and wallowy when driven aggressively. It will require some dial in time with the triple adjustables but we have a number of events coming up starting in March to get it sorted. Look for pics soon. |

What Mil is that plastic sheeting??
LOL Looks like a nice addition/mod Jay! |
|
What flares are those?
|
Greg, no kidding. Not sure the "3M protect-o-bag" will pass inspection tho at the USCA event to keep the rocks off the new paint during the road rally segment.
The flares are from Carbon Kustoms. We are modifying them to follow the contour of the fenders. |

What are you guys running up front? not 335's? yeah? If so, i will bow down to the "grip master" lol

My IRS is 64" WMS to WMS so we're plenty wide, with 12" from the front of the hub to the inner tub wall. Did Carbon Kustoms make the wide body fenders too? My front is currently 61" but I think I can go out a bit more. It would be nice to not have to make my own. I'd prefer to put those 100+ hours some where else. |
Yes, Albert from Carbon Kustoms has the fenders available. We purchased the car from him last year. Give him a call. He is a plethora of knowledge on the 2nd Gen f-body's and will definitely help you out. His white 2nd gen camaro has wide body rear fenders as well. Dude really knows his cars.

Serious stuff!
Super jealous of 335's all around. Love the carbon work on the TA as well:flashie:

Justin, it is like riding around in a big go kart.
We did get some bad news from Dusold yesterday. The Ridetech airbar and driver side frame rail broke. Looks like we will be rebuilding the rear suspension...any ideas? |
Quote:
Frame rail failure where the bracket mounts ? |
Yes...on one side the frame rail split where bracket mounts (welded not bolted in) and on the other side the Airbar separated from the UCA mount plate.

Similar to this I assume. Before we installed mine I spoke with my chassis guy and he suggested a few stitch welds. He felt the full weld was the cause of the failure. And also the obvious fact that the rail was never designed to carry such a load. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...36c931720b.jpg http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15...bef3ab478a.jpg Marty-MJ www.garagescene.net |

yeah, when welding them in you want to avoid the corner of the frame rail. I use the bolts and then run a few 1" beads on the flats only.

Klrbrd
Been a few months since an update. KLRBRD is a completely different vehicle with the new suspension. The guys at Dusold Designs did an incredible job. I drove it for the first time on Sunday since Mike delivered it to Amy at the Optima Search for the Ultimate Streetcar event at Texas Motor Speedway at the end of March. Thanks to Kaleb Kelley for taking some kicka$$ pics of the car during the event and for the guys at ProTouring Magazine for putting a pic of the car in the Premiere issue.

Columbus GoodGuys Event
Damn! It has been over a year since my last post. We moved from Dallas, Texas to Columbus, Ohio. My wife quit her job and started/built a bakery...Nothing Bundt Cakes Columbus-Gahanna. My consulting business was relocated to Columbus. We built a house. (STOOPID!!) And through it all we remained married and look back on the transition and laugh as we drink some wine for sanity sake.
This past weekend we attended the Columbus GoodGuys event. I grew up in Columbus and use to go to the show as a kid. This was the first time I had taken a car to "The Big One" and man was it a BLAST. We ran some autocross, saw some awesome builds and reconnected with a bunch of old friends, making some new ones in the process. Here are some pics and videos of KLRBRD from the weekend. http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/...s2lvsyxyu.jpeg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/...pshfukbuao.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/...psjs0ea5zd.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/...psknxkyvm4.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/...psqmpttp5j.jpg http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2vg5xzkg.jpg |
A few videos from the Columbus GoodGuys autocross this past weekend.
This is the first time we had the car on any type of track since last March and the first time I have drive the Trans Am at an event. I finished up 16th out of 52 Street Machine participants. Not bad and not good but the fun factor was a 200 on a a scale of 0 to 100. Amy and I had a blast! Special thanks to Mike Dusold from Dusold Designs for helping me knock the rust off my driving skills and encouraging me to "Go Faster!". http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/...psstbl8oqa.mp4 http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/...psosxtzwcl.mp4 http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/...psadok2pfn.mp4 http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/...psy87voebp.mp4 |
What a beauty Jay!! Welcome back home!
|
Glad to hear you're doing well, Jay. Congrats on making a successful transition to Columbus
|
Kind of a weird question, but is your dash board white? I am building a 69 Trans Am clone and I painted the 10-point cage and the dash white. I'm wondering if the top of the dash being white will cause windshield glare when driving?
