Thanks guys, I am slowly checking items off the list, I am getting eager to blast it back apart and get it on the rotisserie.

No No No, Please leave the car paint and body in it's current state. It looks way to perfect to mess with.

Well that makes me feel much better. I know it's not my car but man I just love the patina on this car.

kevin_l 04-01-2016 07:54 PM

Still knocking items off the to do list. The wife has notified me baby #2 will be here October! So it's time to get off my ass before I have even less free time than I do now.

Took the old ratty recaros to the upholstery stop, got a few teaser pictures but they are not done yet.

I was going to sub out plumbing the car, but after some thought and research, I purchased cunifer brake and fuel line, stainless gravel guard and an eastwood flare tool. Picked up some pure choice motorsports wilwood banjo fittings to clean up the brake lines. Fronts are done, still need to finish the rears. Overall I am very happy with the results thus far.

Finally! got around to assembling the 9" 3:89's detroit tru trac moser 31 spline axles

And lastly for now, I built a fuel tank harness and began plumbing the soft line. I will run hard line from the filter to the firewall. The rest is -6an areoquip starlite.

Thanks for the detailed pics Kevin! Getting a good number of items off your list. Always a good feeling...

Love the build. This gen. Novas are the only ones I like. You are doing ONE of my dream builds. DSE stuff could be hung on the wall and admired. LOL

Subcribed.

How did you like the Cu/Ni line for brake and fuel. I've heard nothing but good things about it and was planning to use it on my car. I haven't seem too many people use it for fuel, but it should work well.

Keep up the good work! Your progress makes me feel like I have an eternity left on my car..........cuz I do! :(

The Cu/Ni line is awesome to work with. It bends nice and smooth, I am using a ridged tubing bender. The eastwood flare tool makes easy work of the flares. I was planning on doing stainless for brake and fuel but after some research and horror stories of leaks and flares I changed my mind. Don't be fooled by bolting on parts as much progress. lol I still have to blow the entire mess back a part and finish all the detail work.

After a long weekend with me and my brother in the garage we now have a noise maker. Don't mind me at the end where I bump the start button with the engine running. I was a little excited. Lol

We just temporarily started the car using a toggle switch for the ignition and a momentary switch for the starter.

Thanks guys, It felt great! I need to get some more photos uploaded. After 30 years of being off the road the car is officially ready to move under its own power. Its no where near done but its a big milestone for me. :headspin:

Jimbo1367 02-10-2017 02:01 PM

updates.

Great to see the baby pic. She'll appricate you building her car some day. LOL
You are welding the trans tunnel once you blow apart the car right?

Great job on the seat mounts. They look well thought out. If you don't pull the wire/gun back after pulsing, it should eliminate the voids / holes. Just hold the position until you pull the trigger. I'f someone all ready mentioned something, I missed it. Mybad. LOL

I've seen the Weld wheels before and never thought much of them as I assumed they were a drag race wheel. They look great !!! What model are they?

Keep up the great work !!!!!

kevin_l 04-11-2017 07:26 PM

So I've been a total slacker and haven't kept up on the threads and the car has moved to another burner yet again. At the end of last year we were gifted with our 2nd child so we've been busy enjoying our little family. But that's ok, I still get to make some time for the car during naps and after bed time.

Unfortunately I don't have an impressive amount of progress to show, and I am sure I am missing something but I'll post some random pictures.

Custom 3" aluminum driveshaft I had made at pem racing. Sonnax forged t56 yoke and 1350 joints.

Recaro lsb seats recovered and installed

The car sat for a while, wasn't sure what direction to go with exhaust. I wanted stainless mandrel, got a few scary quotes and ultimately decided to buy a small tig welder and attempt to tackle this myself. After some trial and error I am mostly happy with the results. It's not completely finished welded yet but it's getting there.

And you wanted to pay someone to do this for you? You killed it! i'm bashing away on my garage project and your welds looked mint. Damn good on ya for doing this yourself.yes there's lots of great shops out there but for a guy to have the balls to do it himself...damn good job...

Those turned out nice! I've been thinking about going down the same route. I'm having a hard time cracking open the wallet for new Recaros when I'm likely going to have them recovered along with the rear seat.

I noticed this thread earlier today (during my morning break @/from work). So when my day ended, I stayed & read through every post. I love the patina look so this thing is extremely appealing. Killer work so far!

Yeah and after spending hours on my back climbing under the car 1000's times I thought maybe those quotes didn't sound so bad! lol but now that it's pretty much done I am glad I tackled this myself. Plus learning to weld better while I am at it is a plus.

Thanks, Although for the money it wouldn't be too much more to go new. I am not totally happy with the upholstery work but it will do for now.

Love the build, the wheels were a great choice!

Where did you source the tail pipe hangers from?

I too am planning on building my own SS exhaust. I recently bought a chop saw jig to mount my portable band saw in.

syborg tt 04-18-2017 09:44 AM

Kevin congratulations on the new addition to the Family. Not sure what I am going to do when my girls go off to college in the next few years.

ps hang a baby swing in your garage and it will keep them happy for hours while you are out working on your car. Just make sure every time you walk by it you give it a little push.

Nice! I used a porta band with the verticle base from swag offroad. The hangers were all bought from summit. The ones by the x pipe are a stainless works piece, the rods are magnaflow and small isolators are pypes. Good luck with your exhaust, just take your time and you'll be fine!

Thank you Marty, he's gonna be my future helping hand I hope... I've been keeping the kiddos clear of the garage for a little while with the stainless welding but they both seem to love hanging out there atleast for now.

I also love the wheels. I am torn between those and the s77b from weld on my 66 chevelle...

kevin_l 10-22-2017 12:42 PM

It has been forever since I last updated the threads. Haven't found a photo hosting site that works well for me.

Anyways, The floors needed some attention, trans tunnel needed to be fit and welded. Had some ugly welds I wanted to correct etc... Just thought I could do a better job with the car on a rotisserie.

After finishing the metal work, I sprayed epoxy primer, 2k sem seam sealer and then single stage 25% gloss black. I will be doing the wheel wells in upol raptor before it comes off the wirily jig.
