nice score on the LSA. 700 crank should be really easy especially with the ls9 snout and the porting you already done.
|
I think so as well and it should still have nice drive-ability since its nothing to crazy.

Not much of an update, but any progress is better than none I guess. Guy had a C6 dash for cheap local so I got it and went over to my trailer and test fit it in the car. It fits way better than I thought it would with just taking measurements from a C6 in a parking lot. I think its going to look really good in the car once its done and the center console modified for my needs. I also started collecting the rest of the dash parts I need to make it complete.

So its been a long time since I've been able to work on my car. Since it doesn't look like it will be any time soon still I've decided to try and knock out the small stuff in the mean time so that way I'm still closer to getting the car done and it's stuff that needs done anyways that I can do without the car.
As I'm putting a C6 dash in my car I bought a cluster and some of the trim panels for it. Since I have Speedhut gauges for it and the factory C6 stuff won't work for me I set off modifying it to work with my needs. First off I fiber glassed in the stock holes that I won't need to prep it for the right size holes that I will need. I also though since I need to fit more gauges that planned since I went to a supercharger engine I though what better place then were the factory buttons were. So I fiber glassed those holes in too. I then fit in PVC pipe as its the perfect size for gauges, used some expanding foam then formed it to the shape I wanted before fiber glassing all that in and starting on the body filler side of things. In the cluster area I cut out and scrapped all the guts and then fitted a lexan lens to lay out my gauges. The two lowest gauges will be fitted at an angle to match the C6 gauge layout. Once I have the angles set I'll fiber glass everything together and do a carbon fiber over lay. Hopefully I'll be able to continue knocking out small projects regularly. I'm also working on new LED tail lamps. Pictures to come later on that one when they are closer to being done. |
Nice work!!!!

wow.... thats all i can say

Damn that's looking good!

looking good! I like the Dash work.

Thanks guys.
I messed around with it a little bit last night and ended up with the lower two gauges angled like the C6 gauges were. I have a few giant washers on order from McMaster so I can start the glass work on it. I'm pretty happy with how they've turned out so far. |
Very nice install. Like the layout!
|
I definitely like what your doing, nice work.

Thanks Waynie.
I got a good amount done today between the cluster and working on my tail lights again. For the cluster last night I stretched a T shirt over the housing and held things down with some washers then applied some resin. Today I body worked it and started some high build primer before I lay some carbon on it. I have a voltmeter and a boost gauge on order, I'll end up with the boost gauge in the A pillar. I'm pretty happy with how this has come out so far and look forward to seeing it in the car. |
Some how missed this build.... Just chewed through it all.... Amazing build you have going on. Keep up the great work!

Version 1.0 of my cluster laying out carbon fiber overlay came out pretty good (pic 1) I however encountered a lifting problem when I started to apply the epoxy and I just couldn't fix it. I pulled all the carbon off and while trying to figure if I should attempt to get the wet epoxy off now or let it dry and sand it down I came to the conclusion that since carbon fabric is relatively cheap that I would let the epoxy tack up and then throw a fresh piece of carbon at it and start from the bottom and work up. This turned out to be successful (pic 2). Tonight after work I'll start the coating process again, this time with a for sure good bond to the housing.

That is some really creative and nice work you are doing. Thanks for sharing the experience with us.

Too bad you don't know someone with a vacuum table. Nice work you'll get it.

Spent some of Friday night wet sanding after the second coat of epoxy cured. I just put the last coat on it and when that cures I'm ready for a matte clear and it will be finished and ready for my gauges. I'm seriously impressed with how this is coming out being my first carbon experience.
|
It looks great, I can't wait to see it with the next coat on it.

While working on the cluster at home at work I've been working on the bezel. After getting it sanded and painted I got the pods wrapped in carbon then trimmed. After that I got the bottom wrapped in carbon. The cluster opening I'm going to paint black to offset all the carbon. After the second coat of epoxy I sanded it, trimmed it, and cut the holes for the starter button and gauge dimmer. Also my LS9 accessory drive showed up.

Damn great job!

Thanks guys. Last night I put the last coat of epoxy on. I also added a little factory style detail to the gauge dimmer. This morning I hit it with some 320 real fast just to see how it will wet sand out and its going to look real good. Goal for the weekend and to get this and the cluster wet sanded so I can try and get them to paint next week. Going for a matte clear to match the door stills and not have a lot of sun reflection when driving.

Friday I had to pull the trailer to work so I could get it inspected. While I had it at the shop I put the dash bezel in it quick fast to see how it would look. I'm pretty happy with how it's tuning out so far.

It looks slick!!

I messed up the mix on the last coat of epoxy that goes in the inside black ring around the bezel last week so I've been working on getting that fixed. I have one more coat I think to get it finished up so I can do a finial wet sand on it. I did get the cluster finished up with the sanding though. Its all trimmed and test fit so it's ready for paint now.
I also have done a lot of work on my tail lamp LED's. The second one is almost finished up and then I can get the potting epoxy done and they'll be ready to install. Pics on those later. |

So I got the bezel and cluster at paint and should get them back in a week or two. I started working on the center console. I finally located one that wasn't crazy expensive last week and started working on it when it got here.
First thing I did was fill the traction control button hole and bond the access panel in place for a smooth look. After that I fiberglassed the stock opening for the radio, HVAC and ash tray to start with while I went back and forth on if I wanted an iPad mini or a double din radio. After searching and searching I decided to go with the double din because it will do more than the iPad will do for me. With that decided I bonded the double din trim ring in and got it body worked. I still haven't picked out an HVAC controller yet. I really like the Resomod Air controller the best, but I've emailed them a few times with no response. Personally the Vintage Air controllers look like old hot rodder parts and they don't have anything more modern looking like I'd like to use. Now I'm on hold again with this part until I know what controller to put in, then I will wrap it in carbon and send it to paint. I may try a vertical controller and put my window switches on each side of it. Need to print off pictures and tape them to it for a visual. Edit** not sure why the pictures are big and 90*. They are fine on my computer before I upload them. |
Nice work on the gauges and center console.

Yesterday evening I got the rear bumper primer sanded one last time and threw some paint on it. I need another coat or two, but I wet sanded a small area this morning and its looking great. Once I get it finial wet sanded I'll be able to make my mold for carbon lay up. |
Fantastic!!

I love it, nice job!

So I ran into a big problem with my rear bumper. When I put a second coat of paint on the whole thing wrinkled up. So after lots of primer, wet sanding, paint, and clear I'm finally close to done. I've already went over it with 1000g wet sanding. Now to 2500 and 3000 so I can wax it and make my mold.
On the dash side of things I picked up my HVAC controls and power window switches and got all that stuff fit up. With that done I was able to shoot it black, coat some epoxy, and lay some carbon. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get the first coat of epoxy on it so I can trim the edges Monday. |
Dd
AJ ... just an fyi, you can actually take apart and paint or powder coat the Dakota Digital controller outside aluminum trim ring black to match the rest of your switches, I know I did it and it looked great

Slowly getting some stuff done. Sucks not having a garage at home to work on my car. On my center console I got it coated with another coat of epoxy and then sanded down and the large holes trimmed out. I need to order some more epoxy so I can get it finished and off to the body shop for some clear coat.
I've also been working on my rear bumper. Had a issue with some paint that caused some wrinkling up and had to basically sand it all down and start over. It took some time, but it came out pretty nice. With that all fixed I attached some plexi to the back, built a dam, and applied some partall and then some PVA. Monday I'm hoping to start putting down tooling gelcoat and fiberglass mat. This is my first venture into mold making so hoping for the best. Lastly Ben has been working on my interior rendering. This is where we're at so far. I'm pretty happy with how its coming along thus far. Sorry the pictures are sideways again. They are fine on my computer, but turn once uploaded. |

Interior design looks FANTASTIC btw ! Cheers Steve |

Ben finished up the interior render with some changes I was looking for. I like the simple clean look. I may add some of the red piping back in, we'll see when I get closer to that point if my taste changes any.

It's going to be amazing! nice work on the Carbon again.
|
It was fun working with you on this AJ, I enjoyed the challenge considering all the structural changes. In the end I think it'll really stand out and catch some attention, fitting nicely with the overall theme for whole the car.
Looking forward to seeing it all come together over the next while. Good luck and keep the updates coming! |
