I appreciate the compliment. I tried to come up with something clean, which is difficult with the LS7's plumbing requirements but I think we have been able to package everything fairly efficiently.

Thanks Dave

Turn the ignition... dang, I guess I need to consider getting an ignition switch of some kind pretty quick now (lol). Hopefully sometime in July - I'll fire you an email when we pick a date.

Rybar 06-14-2008 10:39 AM

James, like all the others said. The car is simply stunning, one of the nicest 1st Gen Camaro's I've ever seen and yes that engine bay is just sick looking. I like the downbars in steel as they look now, unless they are painted the same color as the frame.

Thanks.
I agree that the down bars look really good in bare steel as they are now (and that gives me some ideas for the next car or the next next car) but when we are done they will be grey to match the subframe.

Looking killer!!

I miss mine!!

GHOSTDANCER 06-19-2008 01:18 PM

What finish did you use on the rim centers ?

Teetoe_Jones 06-19-2008 03:40 PM

Gunmetal gray.

Tyler

GHOSTDANCER 06-19-2008 04:00 PM

Thank you Tyler. Was the gunmetal grey a custom color ?
The photos all look like black with texture. [yes my eyes and monitor are old as time]

James OLC 06-19-2008 07:07 PM

I think that is actually called Charcoal Gey and it is a factory HRE color.

GHOSTDANCER 06-20-2008 07:52 AM

Thanks

Well we're at that point in the build where lots of things are coming together but nothing really dramatic is taking place so I'll give a quick update showing the last of the fabrication that (thankfully) is now just about done.

At the back of the car we've put together a close-out panel that I think really completes the back end of the car:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/rear%203.jpg

James OLC 07-01-2008 09:59 PM

We'll look at some possible aero enhancements when it's done and we have a chance to actually do some on track testing.

James OLC 07-01-2008 10:01 PM

At the front our splitter begins to take shape...

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...%20evo%201.jpg

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...%20evo%202.jpg

....and that's where we'll leave that for now.

James OLC 07-01-2008 10:02 PM

We also got the bulk off the fuel system plumbed. I'm just waitimg on some fuel rails for the LS7 (which seem to be harder than you would think to get) and then we'll be done the fuel side of the equation (for now).

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/fuel%201.jpg

...yes I know, but you should try finding an ano-tuff 180 degree -8 fitiing in this town on a holiday long weekend (or any other time for that matter). I had to go to a fall back price that was sitting in my tool box for now; we'll change that line out this weekend.

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/fuel%203.jpg

We're working on the wiring now - the I Squared panel is proving to be a real time saver making the intall very simple and efficient.

James, Your car has got me wondering if I really want to replace my factory sub-frame with a AME C-6 or not. The styling of your car is spot on to what I have in mind for my 67' , right down to a simular color. Wow, Great minds think alike  . Great project, look forward to your updates daily.

Thanks Travis.

There is a lot of potential in the stock subframe. I am obviously really happy with the ATS package (I actually have two Chicane-LM coilover conversions - this one and another on my other '67 project) and would suggest giving Tyler a call if your interested in specifics. He is more than willing to share technical specifications on the subframe to enable you to compare apples to apples.

Good luck with your project.

uthustler 07-19-2008 10:56 PM

update!!

Sorry that it has been so long since the last update - we are at that point in the build that doesn't really photograph well. Some people might find the work a little boring but some of it is really cool. In the last couple of weeks we were able to get the front spoiler / splitter together to the point that it's ready for final bodywork.

We also spent the last couple of days getting the coils mounted.

We started with these trick billet coil brackets:
These are prototypes that we had machined for us by Matt at RFR. The final product will be anodized but we wanted to evelate the design before moving forward.

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...racket%201.JPG

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...racket%204.JPG

Now I just have to figure out where to mount them.

waynieZ 07-25-2008 10:01 PM

Awesome job on the coil brackets. The whole car is awesome very nice work.

Amazing as always! Interesting and original mounting location for sure should work well. (call you tomorrow and drop by if your working on the car)

Have you used the I squared panel before? I've been looking for someone who hs used them before but most people have never heard of them. If so, I'm looking for some long term impressions. Car looks unbelievable by the way.

Thanks Dave. Give me a shout any time, I don't know if we're going to be able to work on the car today/tomorrow but I need to pick your brain about where to scare up some scales so I can scale the car and get the shocks valved while it's in the booth.

This is the first time I've used the panel. It really makes the wiring simple and cuts down tremendously on the time and amount of wires and other neccessary evils (it's also a more economical solution in the long run compared to conventional wiring layouts). I Squared is doing some really exciting things right now (that hopefully I can discuss more soon) but they make a top notch product and a great alternative to some of the other products offered by others.

Sounds good, pretty sure I could borrow some scales from a a few spots, just let me know when and I'll get on it.

WILWAXU 07-26-2008 08:42 AM

Great build!

That's a different and cool location for the coils. Too bad you have to cover up those bitch'n brackets ;)

coolwelder62 07-27-2008 05:44 PM

This is a kick ass car. And some really neat ideas. I see a car like this ,And It makes me want to start a new project. Great job, Love it.Scott.

badbu68 07-27-2008 09:20 PM

Love the form and functionality of this car, I'm looking forward to seeing more work on the quarter exhaust. Any surrounds on the quarter?

James OLC 07-27-2008 09:35 PM

Thanks guys - we're trying.

well it took a little bit of thinking - and then rethinking after a bit of a misstep - but we were able to get the coils mounted today.

The bracket fits nicely below the rad:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...acket%203x.JPG

James OLC 07-27-2008 09:37 PM

and with the coils in place:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/coils%201.JPG

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/coils%202.JPG

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/coils%203.JPG

and from the inside they nicely out of the way:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/coils%20in%201.JPG

James OLC 07-27-2008 09:39 PM

Building the front splitter.

The first stages of fabication, we based it on a stock spoiler and increased the rake slightly:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...%20evo%201.jpg

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...%20evo%202.jpg

James OLC 07-27-2008 09:40 PM

Then we closed the sides in, trying to follow the curves of the lower fender as well as possible:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...%20evo%203.jpg

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...%20evo%204.jpg

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics...%20evo%205.jpg

James OLC 07-27-2008 09:43 PM

and finished it off with the spitter itself at the bottom. This is just roughed in at this point; before moving forward with the bodywork Chris and Shane tweaked the corners and the base for a tight, flat fit:

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/spltr%203.jpg

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/spltr%201.jpg

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/spltr%202.jpg

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/spltr%204.jpg

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/OLC_pics/spltr%206.jpg

I like that we found a way to follow the original design and take it to the next level. We will probably wind up with a couple of bases - one for the street and one for the track. It's probably not for everybody and that's fine but it fits with the OneLap build and should have a positive effect on the track.

zbugger 07-27-2008 10:07 PM

I like it. A lot even. Looks great. Thanks for giving me an idea for my own car.

monza 07-27-2008 10:28 PM

Looking cool, I have to ask what is the cork gasket taped in the pics?

Curious with the spitter (lower portion) as you call it, is that design tested and tried some where? Just thinking on the aerodynamics of it all. Sort of thinking it might have a lifting effect with that flat plane under the car???? I 100% expect and looking forward to you schooling me on it! Love the shape and look.

I don't know if anything exactly like it has been done on a '67 before (I am sure that some one, some where probably has) but it is fairly common on road race cars. The principal behind the splitter is to decrease the volume of air moving under the car and reduce the turbulance (and increase the velocity) of the air that does move under the car. The combination of reduced volume and increased velocity is lower pressure and reduced lift.

We will in all likelyhood have to do some testing to determine the ideal length but we have to get to that point. I am a little concerned about the bend to the second crossmember of the sub but without it the air would just hit the crossmember directly so I don't see how it could be a detriment. Like anything else though, testing will tell.

Teetoe_Jones 07-28-2008 02:16 PM

I think he is talking about your tow hook mock up cardboard piece.

Thanks for the answer sounds good, I had to many beers to even be thinking about as such questions let alone posting it!! :captain:
