Thanks Todd, Truth be told, I'm kinda wanting them to break loose:lol:

You and Mike. Actually those chairs are about 20'away, the flag pole in my yard is about 60' away, the table cloth is actually a 19' boat covered with canvas sitting along side the neighbors house about 100' away. Thanks Roger

Thanks, it turned out pretty good but next time I'm going to stay away from the black. Alot of body work and maintenance to keep the depth. Everything shows, but it looks good clean.

Lenie did you farm out the paint. Or was the gun in your hand.
Looks great, car has come a long way from your original post.
Dave

Thanks Dave, I farmed out the paint. I did the initial body work, first round
of primer, guide coat and block sanding but it had been 20 years since I last sprayed a car and since I was going black and want the car to get it's just rights, I chickened out and hired a professional. While it was in the shop for
2 1/2 years, I did my son's 1966 chevelle from start to finish and was pretty happy with the outcome. The individual I hired did a good job with it but if I had it to do over again, I'd do it myself now that I've reassured my confidence.

How sweet that would be to have your assistant be able to lift the car up to eye height as you're coming down the sides.

Paint on this car is exceptional! Nice job!

Thanks, the hydraulic post lift in his booth is sweet.

I wonder how much time was spent on cutting and buffing.
I bet that was upwards of a **** load of money.

Thanks, it was a**** load of money.

But then again the car is so incredible just about any wheel will look good. That paint is just KILLER! Did you do all of the prep and painting yourself? What about final cut and buff?

Thanks, I'm going to different size wheels, preference. Believe it or not, final sand and buff has yet to be done. I want to assemble it first and then I'll do the final sand and buff.

Thanks Rybar, along w/using a 68 camaro rear bumper because of gas cap mods, the rear bumper has been shaved, tucked and also painted black. I'm pretty much going to stay with the dark them with the trim pieced also.

WHEW, man I need to stay on top of my replies. Built some cribbing, lifted the car in the air 12" so I can get under it to work. Pretty convenient. Here's the bird nested. Oh and I've decided not to go with the name FOWLPLAY, to weak. Will change it later.

I like this build!! The paint is killer!

GregWeld 10-07-2009 07:14 PM

I don't care what the paint bill was -- it was CHEAP compared to the job you got!
:woot: :woot:

That is the sickest black paint I think I've EVER seen!

GregWeld 10-07-2009 07:33 PM

Lenie --- Gotta love those Budnik Tillers!!! Especially on BLACK!

I actually took these off and put them on my Turquoise and white Nomad -- they didn't look the same... if they did - I'd be taking you up on yours! LOL

Greg, please send me that 55 of yours:unibrow: Ya know, I haven't ruled out getting another pair, just in a bigger size. I called budnik last year and asked if I could just get the rears in 19x12's and they told me they don't make them in a step lip anymore otherwise I would have saved alittle dinero and took that route.

Hey Tony, maybe my statement was a little misleading. I have yet to purchase another set of wheels. I haven't found any that I can't live w/o so I'm waiting until my project is closer to completion or I come to a decision I'm sure about. As of now, I only know they will be 18's and 19's.

Lenie 10-07-2009 11:29 PM

Once finished with the bird, here's my next project. I'm going to redo my 75 chev. shorty van. It's my harley hauler for long trips.

GregWeld 10-08-2009 10:38 AM

Not my car guys -- I'm just putting it together for a buddy of mine. He has ZERO skills -- ZERO tools... Long story - but it was his DREAM and another buddies project... I only offered to do what they couldn't - transfer the body onto the AME chassis -- slick the firewall.... and rotate it a couple times on the rotisserie to clean the bottom etc before the transfer... oh... and make a new tranny tunnel.. and modify the trunk floor - and build the SS exhaust... THEN it was to go to my buddies house/shop - where they'd do all the rest... that was TWO YEARS ago - and nothing got touched. I mean NOTHING. So I rescued the project... brought it back to my shed and will now finish it up. Seems some guys eyes are bigger than their skill set. :(

Now - since all of this occurred... Rick (owner) had a MAJOR stroke - so will never drive the car... and in his current state - wouldn't even know it was his. But I'll still enjoy putting it all back together - and if I can - take him out for a ride in it.

Nothing wrong with getting rid of the "old" tread. You know, get it down to fresh rubber so it handles good right?:D

zingercustoms 10-08-2009 06:55 PM

Been watching for a while and never posted on your build, just awesome. Love the simple blackout look on everything. Great paint work, too! I know how much effort goes into a finish like that. my arm aches, and my finger tips burn just looking at it. I guess mostly because I know how much of that is ahead on my bird.:_paranoid

G-Body 10-08-2009 07:42 PM

Yes -- he has a son that is into cars a bit - but more BMW's... Rick gave him his old M3 - when he bought his new M6 the week before we headed out to SEMA... Rick also has a brand new Z06 - a 63 split window - a 57 hardtop fuelie... and a couple 'normal' cars... Some of the guys are firing them up and keeping 'em running.

This whole thing has been real hard on our little group of hot rodders... kind of is exposing our ages I guess...
