She comes home on Sunday and there's some guys in the shop - she walks through and very casually says "so.... just how many cars do you own....?" and just keeps on walking. She wasn't looking for an answer - it was just a statement that she "knew" now that there was more than meets the eye. We never discussed it - and she never asked anything more about it. I don't ask her how many pairs of shoes she has either. It's just a taboo. That and I don't really GAF. :woot: |
Todd - It might not be a bad time to invest in a store and lock. That way it looks like an income producing property to the wifey and you have your own personal rat-hole unit(s).........keep one with some crappy junk in it in case you get accused and have to fess up. :unibrow:

Todd, do you kno when they installed your 2 6x9s and your sub, did they cut the package tray sheet metal underneath to accomodate the depth of the sub and speakers?

Vic, to be perfectly honest, I don't know the answer. I know the sub and port are contained in it's own box and bolted to the car and I believe package tray. From the photo, the 6x9's look like they are also part of the box. I gave Findlay Customs free reign and permission to cut up the back package tray. I could sure take a look for you. I'd love to shed this weight....:unibrow:

Great project update
Todd, Very nice thread. I have enjoyed looking at the progress of the 69. I also live in Henderson, although not Hendertucky. I have a 67 convertible project currently under way. I would love to look and get some ideas for by build. I have alot of my parts already and will be welding the new floor board in next week.

todd,
the second to last photo shows the magnet from one of your speakers, so im assuming its not fully enclosed.. cut out particle board with the 3 speakers, exposed underneath. but sure take a look let me know, i love the look, planning on doing the same with my camaro.:unibrow: Quote:

I call dibs on the trans, rear, brakes, wheels....
....oh, I misread that post. Moderators please delete lol. G. |
Let me give you a little friendly advice.... I'd take the engine, then the rest of the car. :unibrow:

I've been driving my girl around and I'm thinking there is a more fitting name. I drove her to the office yesterday and to a couple appointments. My last client heard me coming from about 3 city blocks away. They are real, genuine. Rednecks like me so we looked at the car and then the house. Anyway, the house sucked but ROWDY seems to fit perfect. I don't care what you think. Especially the real short, tall, and ass kissers around this place. Haha
|
Very appropriate nickname for what you've made Payback. Though the principle behind the original name can't be discounted IMO.

I will agree to call the car Rowdy only if you wear this kilt whenever you drive it. :_paranoid

I didn't even go out to the garage to make sure the car was still on my property for about 2 months after my Dad and I ran the last autocross of the year. To be frank, I was completely burnt out on the car after 2011. It was a great year. I made three trips to Cali to run RTTC, NMCA/Hotchkis at Pomona, and last but certainly not least, Buttowillow. I also ran the Super Chevy show here along with a handful of SCCA autocrosses. Tore down the trans and put carbon fiber synchros in, replumbed the whole oil system and added a mack truck for an oil cooler. Anyway, it was time to do some hunting and let my girl rest for a while.
The front brakes were toast, I mean toast. Cracked rotors and smoked pads. I put on new slotted rotors and changed to a new pad compound on all 4 corners for 2012. I've had the car out a few times now and WOW, it stops! Better than ever on the street. I had run Buttonwillow and got the car hot in every heat along with the last autocross and the valves needed checked. They were all pretty much right on the money except for one that was .003 loose. The clutch came out of adjustment as the clutch and new aluminum flywheel seated at Buttonwillow. I've tweaked the adjustment and got it shifting well. I hope it makes me happy at RTTC. I'm not thrilled about the thought of swapping to a Magnum. Mainly financially. I inspected the car from bumper to bumper twice while I had it up on jack stands. Anyway, everytime I get into drive this car it feels foreign to me. In 2011 I just didn't put that many street miles on the car. At the end of the day, the car usually feels foreign to me when I go to the track. I want to put some decent miles on the car this year. I've driven to the office twice in a week and to appointments. My clients flip out. I forgot how much I enjoy just putting around in the car. I've been so focused on performance and racing. http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...fficePhoto.jpg When I got home tonight, I decided to take a little free play out of the clutch. I popped the hood to let it cool off and noticed the air cleaner was loose. The only problem, the stud was broke!!!!!:faint: :willy: The air cleaner does rub on the hood when the engine pulls on the mounts (Drivers is solid by the way)but I never expected it to break! All I know is I doged a bullet. It broke off clean and I caught it just in time. If that wing nut would have come off, catastrophic damage. I pulled off the carb and smacked the broke off stud with a chisel and backed it out with a screwdriver. I decided to enlarge the air cleaner like hole so it could float a little. I don't know what else to do, I don't have but an 1/8" of room to spare between the hood and air cleaner. Keep in mind, this car has 6500 miles on it. LUCKY! It was a good time to check all the fasteners on the carb. I found a handfull that needed a little torque. http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...1969/Ohsht.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...969/OhSht2.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...969/Ohsht3.jpg I took her out tonight and she's stronger than ever. I couldn't even get it to hook in 2nd. I softened up the front shocks and the car is feeling better than ever. |
Funny, I haven't touched my car in a couple of months either. It was a nice day out here in Nor Cal yesterday so I took 'er out for a semi spirited ride.
Man did that feel good!! :unibrow: |
Todd -- You're going to have to have ARP make you a air cleaner stud... good to 190,000 PSI
:willy: :D |
I put a 1969 302 rubber mount on the passenger side to absorb some harmonics and it does, but it allows a little movement.
|
Would a torque strap on the motor work?
A snorkle cold air setup and K&N? Not a classic look but it should gain clearance if you can fit it. The price of the Magnum after a few drives was insignificant to me. Car is looking good as ever. |
I actually had the same issue with my BBC setup. Engine is shifted to the passenger side a little bit due to the NOS BBC frame stands, and that caused my 14" air cleaner to rub on passenger side of the hole in the hood when the engine torqued on my NOS rubber motor mounts. I reworked my air cleaner base to shift the filter assembly back over to driver's side by about 3/8" and that solved the issue. I had to get creative with the filter stud also to make up for that shift. Here are the pics if you're interested Todd:

Nice work there sir. Mine rubs in the 2 O'clock position facing the front of the engine. I'm running small block mounts. Looks like they need to manufacture these hoods somewhere between big block and small block mounts. :unibrow: Seems to be pretty common. The position of my rub negates a torque strap as well. While a cold air intake system would fix my problem and be very functional, ain't going to happen.

Just a couple of examples for an offset air cleaner
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ALLSTAR-PERF...item4ab0b48201 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Moroso-65926...item5d31fdde07 We always drilled and tapped the carbs on our circle track cars for a 5/16 stud |
I'll look into it, thanks. The problem is I don't need much.

Just clearance it with a hammer
Nobody will notice. LOL
