What astounds me, after 5 years of running track days myself, is how fast and consistent Mark is, on an unfamiliar track, no less. The car is obviously awesome - saw it at SEMA and it's essentially perfect - but I'd bet Mark would have won it with any of half a dozen other cars, too.
This is what we shouldn't overlook in this hobby - driving is what it's about. The better you can drive, the better your car is. The better you can drive, the better you know how to build your car. Go out and find your local autocrosses, your nearest track days. I guarantee you, you'll get hooked. Turning wrenches and TIG welding joints will have a whole new meaning. As for you, Mr. Stielow, I'm guessing you don't like anything that even slightly smacks of hero worship - and good for you. But I still have to say, Mark, I'm in this hobby because of the '96 Hot Rod article on the Red Witch. The vision embodied in that car inspired me, and six builds later, I have my dream car. Thanks, and I hope to lose to you in the next Optima Challenge:) |
Amazing accuracy and lines on the road course. That really shows me just how bad my lines were that day. I wish I could've listened to the advice you were giving before the event. Watching your videos also shows me just how poorly my car is setup. I'm itching for the next event already. Great job.

It was great to watch this car going down the track & to see it in person!

Thanks for all the kind words! It has been a crazy year.
This is the Blue Bomber - Red Devil 2 years ago http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/q...DSCN2491-1.jpg This is my car at VanNus's a year ago. It was a primered steel sheel. Also I changed the car from LS7 powered to LS9 power after OUSCI event. Paul, Joe and I were joking that we though it was cool that we got it done because we all had full time jobs and we did it in our spare time. http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/q...l/DSC_2867.jpg This was the car last week  http://i439.photobucket.com/albums/q...evil/07WM1.jpg I could not of finished this car with out the help of a lot of buddies. Paul and Joe VanNus - for paint and body Ryan Kuhlenbeck - for the whole wiring harnesses and car assembly Dave Mikels - Engine calibration Brian Thomson - Engine build Joe Borscke - Fab work on Rad, Exhaust, Cage It was great my Mom and Dad got to see the event. They have some great stories to tell there friends back in KC Stielow |
