You're timing it with the vaccum advance disconnected correct? How did the plugs look? What carb are you running. If you want to give me a call, I'd be happy to speak with you Craig.

What did you set the timing at?

I might just need a touch more.

Yeah vaccum advance is disconnected. The plugs looked clean and almost unused on the even side, the odd side there black. I'm running a Holley 4779 carb.

It's time to pull that carb apart for a good cleaning. Does it clean up off idle?

Lean on one side -- black on the other -- sounds like an he needs to adjust the idle screws... Depending on the carb - and there are a couple models of 4779's -- which is a 4150 body... you could have 4 Corner idle adjustment...

Screw them all IN to the stop... and back them out ONE full turn....

That should get you started... then

To set idle mixture screws: 1.Get the engine up to temp 2.Shut the engine off 3.Install a vacuum gauge to a full manifold vacuum port 4.Turn the screws all the way in until lightly seated 5.Next, back them out 1 full turn and restart the engine making sure the choke is completely off 6.While at idle, back them out 1/8 turn at a time until highest vacuum is achieved. Be sure you keep all 4 screws even. You can also do this adjustment without a vacuum gauge, the adjustment are the same except you will adjust to highest engine RPM at idle.

IF YOUR CARB ONLY HAS 2 SCREWS - the process is the exact same - except that you'd only do this adjust with the two screws. Using a vacuum gauge is best - and if your timing light gives you RPMS - you can watch that at the same time... highest vacuum and highest rpms!

THIS IS ONLY FOR IDLE -- it doesn't adjust anything else on the carb.

Yes It does smooth out at higher RPM. I’m going to check a few other things before I start tearing this thing apart.

I think it needs a trip to C and S Motorsports!! Tom will have it runnin' like a top.

This car looks sweet, and i love those rims. Hope you figure out the little demons haunting the motor.
