geez still dont haev the front brakes??? what taking so long?
dual fans? didnt the setup you got from ebay only have 1 fan,did you get the rad./fans that franks was talking about?

Vegas69 06-28-2008 07:59 AM

I ended up getting a dual spal set up from the radiator shop I bought it from. Should flow 3400 cfm. The wilwoods are a sore subject with me right now. 6 months since I paid for them and no front brakes. I havent' needed them but I will very very soon. Hope they show up this week.

Good thing you installed AC in your garage, it's 109 today. OH WAIT...that's right you installed a heater thinking the car would have arrived sooner. WOW! That sucks........lol

Vegas69 06-28-2008 11:54 AM

I'd rather sweat my ass of than freeze:cheers: We have throttle, carbuerator, and the grommet for the wires through the firewall done this morning. Lookin good boys...stop on by anytime.

Spiffav8 06-28-2008 10:48 PM

I'm out of town most of July. Barely got time to swap out the laundry on this last rotation home. I'll be back some time after the 10th...ugh. I'll grab Aj and swing by one weekend when things slow down on this end.

Keep at it!

Vegas69 06-28-2008 10:49 PM

Update:

After all the talk of one fan not doing the job, I called the radiator manufacturer and they make a dual spal setup for my radiator. It's all wired with an individual relay per fan. I still need to tidy up the wiring a little in the photo.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0850.jpg

I got the throttle completely set up and adjusted along with the carb mounted. The fuel system is turn key minus the gas cap and gas:D

Prodigy Customs repainted my dash insert and got it back super quick. I was pleasantly suprised when the Fed ex guy showed up on Saturday. It' looks great. All the gauges are completely wired and ready to plug and play.

This is a pretty pleasant site to come home to everyday. I have people stopping by left and right. Met a really cool guys tonight that lives a few blocks away that is a toy nut and restoring a 69 Firebird right now.

Sweet, your getting closer to firing it up. Its coming together nice.

Steve1968LS2 06-29-2008 10:52 AM

Very nice!

Love the project so far. The only thing I'm not "feeling" is the black mesh covering your radiator hose. And it's not so much the covering as it is how it looks unfinished and rough on the ends.

Is that how you plan on running it or is that just for now?

Vegas69 06-29-2008 02:12 PM

Thanks guys. I am not sold on it either Steve. It doesn't look as shiny without the flash and I have yet to trim some of the ends. In fact Tyler thought the power steering lines were the same AN hose I am using everywhere else. One day I like it the next:D It's really hard to cut it straight. It looks good on the power steering lines since it's a smaller diameter and that is the same material I am using on the wiring. I may just end up cleaning up the hoses and shining them up a little. Heater hoses and AC lines will probably be the deciding factor on the radiator hoses.

skatinjay27 06-29-2008 05:57 PM

why not use the little heatshrink type hose clamps... they you can have the mesh over the hose but the ends will be covered and look finished? amd imo they are the cleanest looking clamps.

Thought about those actually....tough to get a heat gun on the water pump inlet and not sure I trust them in the long run. I like the look of the NHRA approved clamps I am using. They aren't going to let me down.

I think Steve is running those on Penny and we know he doesn't run crap.

Vegas69 06-29-2008 08:08 PM

Steve is where I got the idea to run them....... and we both know how nice his car is done. With a small block or big block you can't get to the back side of the clamp on the water pump to apply heat like you can on an LS. My breather tank and catch can are using the exact same clamps as I am using on the hoses. The mesh will go before the clamps. Plus those boogers aren't cheap like regular hose clamps.

Well that sucks.

She is alive. Hooked up the dash panel and ignition switch so I could watch my oil pressure while priming the engine. Pretty exciting to see the fruits of my labor turn into something like lights. Turned over the engine briefly to check the starter shimming and it's perfect.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0868.jpg

Primed the oil pump for quite a while to make sure I had no leaks. I am running braided 350 hose and a remote oil filter on the front passenger frame. Everything looks great. The distributor is now stabbed and spark plug wires are done.

Vegas69 07-07-2008 12:23 AM

For you guys running the DSE sub. Do yourself a favor and have them weld on the Z bar bracket. The inner fender makes this a real pain in the you know what. It's tapped and done right but......it was a last minute change. The clutch rod etc. is on the top of the list. She is a dirty pig right now and needs some touch up. Somehow the inner fender got all scratched to **** on the way here. Of course no steering was probably the cause.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0863.jpg
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0862.jpg

The boys over at ATS have been treating me right. Here is the solution to my crossmember issues. They modified it with one of their T56 crossmember ends and moved the center bracket slightly. Of course it still needs painted. ATS is top notch. Highly recommend them.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0860.jpg

I added fuel tonight to prime the fuel system and check for leaks. I had 4 leaks. Two at the carb bowls and the fitting on both sides of the pump. I used a pipe dope and the fuel ate right through it. Lucky me!! I had to disasemble all the fittings with the dope and replace it with tape. It's all fixed now but what a mother ######. The carb leaks were caused by a frankly crappy design. They used two gaskets with my high dollar fuel rail. I used the gaskets and tape and it's not leaking anytime soon.

mdprovee 07-07-2008 08:35 AM

Keep it up, you will be driving it soon!

Vegas69 07-09-2008 12:12 AM

Late last night I realized the dash lights weren't working. The right turn signal also was not functional. I dug in this morning and found blown fuses in both circuits. I definitely had a short on my hands. For those of you that are not real savvy with electronics the key to finding the short is eliminating segments of the wiring that you think has the short. In these old cars it's a piece of cake. It turned out to be my brand spanking new right front parking lamp. They must of chaffed the wires during assembly. I unplugged it and everything is perfect. I'll probably disasemble it and try to fix it vs send it back.

My first view of the gauges at night. :D
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0871.jpg

I spent most of the rest of the night installing my emergency brake cable. Cut the lokar cables have everthing set up perfect. Push down on the pedal and it's rock hard and the wheels aren't moving with a breaker bar. About the third time it sinks to the floor. Pile of crap OER front cable broke third pull. :unibrow: So brand new OER parts are my two bugs to fix for the night. My works flawless.

Looking good! hey did you notice those large gauges when lit look like they have Chevy emblems in the center . Keep picking at it your getting closer.

Vegas69 07-10-2008 08:12 PM

Good call Wayne:cheers:

Vegas69 07-13-2008 12:20 PM

Well I finally got my front brakes. Have to say Frank over at Prodigy Customs came through for me as always. 13" rotors have been on back order and he hooked me up with 14" for free. Keep in mind guys that I have spent a nickel or two thisyear with him so don't go asking. They are flipping huge!
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0880.jpg
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0893.jpg

I have only had time to install the drivers side. Had to buy C6 bolts from Chevy for the mounting brackets. I also had to clearance the spindle slightly with a aggressive file for the caliper bracket to mount flush. Plenty of clearance now and the wheels fit nice as well. Drivers side is all shimmed out and ready for some fun.

Vegas69 07-13-2008 12:25 PM

It's alive!!!!

I fired her up for the first time this morning. She sounds really really good and healthy. Only 90 today but the fans kept it right at 195 where I have it programmed. Stoked is an understatement right now.

Crank your speakers for some big block music

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...h_MVI_0901.jpg

I need to play with timing and idle speed still. About a tea spoon of oil on the floor from one oil line at filter adapter after 20 minutes. Think they probably just need a littl more torque. I have since learned these fittings need to be pretty tight after my fuel fiasco.

Spiffav8 07-13-2008 12:26 PM

Keep at it Brother! It's looking awesome!! Be over as soon as I get back in town for a look.

Can't wait to see that sucker on the road!:unibrow:

WOW!!! Nice build. Thanks for posting your build pics/video of your car and keeping me motivated.
As of right now, I can ONLY dream of having a nice car like that. Seeing the build process and how it all comes togther makes me really appreciate the hard work/time that you and others have spent on their cars. I can only wish I had a fraction of car knowledge as yourself. Seeing your car, Steve Rupps car & Jeff Hansons car, for example, and others,(don't want to leave anybody out), makes me want to call Fesler for a build!!! LOL!!
Good luck and keep us posted!!

It's all alot of fun at the end of the day. It's way more work than most can imagine or can be documented. At least it is on these top shelf builds. You can't cut corners. It has to look great, function perfectly, and be reliable. Lot's of four letter words floating out of my garage somedays but it's still a blast. That is awful good company you have compared me to. I appreciate it.

Vegas69 07-21-2008 11:00 PM

Well after all these months I have steering!!!! Smooth as butter and looks great too.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0930.jpg

I now have brakes too! Fought a couple leaks with the connections around the master cylinder. Loosening the lines and retightening them did the trick. I vaccuum blead them last night. The old lady let me borrow her leg. Brakes feel great, no leaks, really like the feel of them so far. DSE dash is fully bolted in along with the column, steering wheel, brake switch, drivers seat is in. When it's done I'll post all the photos.
Made a homemade bench bleeder.

It's on the road this week! Have a couple of trick parts here and on the way to dress her up a little. haha

Vegas69 07-23-2008 01:14 AM

Thanks boys....AJ, Saturday is out. I dropped her tonight and the body and the tires were best friends. I could get 5 turns out of the front coil overs and managed 1/8 of an inch clearance.:D Don't have a spanner wrench for the front yet. So basically oil line, stance, hood keep me from showing up. I'll have it knocked out very soon. Looks killer on the ground!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:_paranoid

tones2SS 07-23-2008 03:44 AM

Those LEMON headers look good & HUGE!!!
The must flow pretty well huh?
Post pics of her on the ground and ready to roll when you get some free time.

Denvervet 07-23-2008 08:47 PM

I'd love to see what Tyler came up with getting the exhaust thru and out the back. I forgot to ask why you decided to go with an exterior fuel pump rather than an internal one. ...besides the $$. All looks very cool.... I mean bad.
