The first body man just used too much plastic, it doesn't need to be that thick there.

Were going to strip back the whole area, re-metal work it, fix the trunk gaps, the re-do the body work.

comp-spec 10-21-2008 04:22 PM

The fun is over...heading home for supper. Starts again tomorrow, Chuck's coming up to shoot some more pics of the repairs for the mag.

68protouring454 10-21-2008 05:02 PM

Most guys would have kept that little bit of info to them self. Then again I know it was the first time you had ever done that kind of thing and it was pretty good for a first time. :_paranoid

I guess I'm a big boy and can let to world know I did most of the metal work on my car....hey I did the best I could! ;)

And I didn't want Chris to take the fall for some work I did that might not be perfect....but in my mind I did a pretty decent job and it shouldn't have taken a ton of mud to cover up.

bigtyme1 10-21-2008 10:32 PM

Stick to Drywall:lol: After what we went thru tonight over the phone while I was trying to line up this dam sheet metal I can't say a word.

It's the love of the game my friend.

tones2SS 10-22-2008 04:07 AM

Keep up the great work Pete and keep us updated.
Tony's gonna have an awesome car!!

68protouring454 10-22-2008 06:03 AM

tony, i did not mean the work was sub par, i just wondered if he did it also. the only thing i dont like personally is the welded rear window filler panel seam, but theres tons of other guys who do it and love it.
sorry if i offended you

Vegas69 10-22-2008 06:27 AM

Keep up the good work Pete.....you know I would really like to see.....kidding!

BRIAN 10-22-2008 06:59 AM

Hard to judge metal work from picture but your attempt looks pretty good. The only way to get a perfect hidden seam is either gas or tig so you can work the weld area. Mig is just too hard. There is worse work under $300k cars.

If their orange Camaro is any indication it will look killer.

It stripped ? .......... LoL

GMracer 10-22-2008 10:30 AM

it's looking good! I love progress pics

comp-spec 10-22-2008 04:22 PM

Well I made my decision today to strip Tony's car completely. After getting into the car a little deeper, I thought about it for a while and feel there is some other spots that the body work just looks to thick to me.

I feel the best thing to do is to strip it completely and start fresh from the metal work up. That way we'll know exactly what we have under the paint.

In the future if Tony needs touchup from scratches or dents it will be a much easier repair as the material won't be as thick as what's on there right now.

mtlinvtns 10-22-2008 05:02 PM

plastic fantastic

Pete, the car looks like it is alot more involved than most people thought. When there is that much plastic on there you probably should strip it all down. You don't need that to crack down the road, and make your work look bad. Props to you for doing a great job. If you need anything just give me a call. Thanks Jon.

Best news I heard all day! Thanks!! :woot:

Pete and I had a long phone conversation today going over some details and at the end I got the feeling we both really thought the car should be stripped. It's the only real way to know what we have and it would be a shame to put one of his killer paint jobs over questionable body work. The only pics Chris didn't give me was of the mud work, so I really have no idea what's under the two paint jobs. At least this way we will know exactly what we have and there will be far less material on the car...and that's exactly why I stripped the car in the first place...all those years ago!

Thanks again Pete and crew!! And to Mario as he's been talking to Pete about handling the material bill. These guys keep their word!! Just too cool!! :hail: :lateral:

BTW, Pete added my car to his projects page!
Take a look!

No worries Jake, we're cool!

You can't beat that....I would be breathing a sigh of relief knowing Comp Specialties is building it from the base up. You are one lucky dude Anthony. I am so glad I had Prodigy take mine down to bare steel. It's the foundation that makes all the difference in the long run. A little delay but well worth the wait. Bad news is your going to Sema and that will hurt your pocket a little more.:D

68protouring454 10-22-2008 06:02 PM

great work pete!!!
tony you must be stoked, now your gonna have to lock down your garage with cameras and retina scanners for entry lol

Yeah SEMA costs a bit, but Jen and I treat it as our one trip away per year....pretty understanding woman I tell ya!!

Yeah knowing Pete will be doing it from the ground up now makes me real happy! This will make for a small delay, but we most certainly can deal with that to have a solid car!

Spiffav8 10-22-2008 06:42 PM

Wow...what a day! Sounds like Pete made a good decision. Just more proof that he's the kind of guy that does the job right no matter what. I think this has gotten bigger than he expected and I applaud him for sticking with 100%.

Excellent decision! I was reserving my opinions on this as it was your choice. I have been in this business for 21 years and seen so many things, you made the best choice, now you will know, metal to clearcoat!

Right now this thread and Larry's MotiV8r thread are my two favorites. Two great stories indeed.
