No different than my HOUSE... What could possibly be the problem with that place?? I'll take the chicken fried steak and eggs - extra gravy - hashbrowns - toast (white of course) and hold the grease. :captain: :woot: |

Hey Ned,
forgive me, i had to pop this one back up. Saw the old thread was bumped and led me here. your project looks fantastic. Did you end up going with the Rated X? I thought those 10 spokes looked killer on there and maybe a set of night trains would go well too. Im glad you got this sorted out and Bruning was able to take care of it. Have a good one Ned. Time for an update...FINALLY!!!
I've been waiting on wheels, so tried to keep myself busy with doing stuff that I could do without having the suspension done and wheels on..... The original Air Ride brackets in the rear bolted in with self tapping bolts/screws in like 10 spots. I wasnt to keen on the whole self tapping bolts... I even stripped 2 of them when I tried to sinch them down tight. At first I was planning on keeping them "bolt in" just in case I ever want to pull them out....but I came to the conclusion of "who am I kidding...I'm not going to change the set-up". So I decided to weld them in for good. I prepped the brackets and drilled quite a few more holes.....17 total....for spot/plug welds, and welded the entirer perimeter...should be rock solid. Original set-up... http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_0190.jpg All Prepped....all the powedercoat is off around the edge and holes, its just kinda hard to tell http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4602.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4593.jpg All welded in.....not always the prettiest beads, but I'm pretty sure I got good penetration on the bracket and frame rail http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4608.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4606.jpg There is a bracket on the inside of the car connecting the two plates, but since I was welding stuff in anyway, I decided to add a welded plate on the outside to connect the two brackets...just alittle more strength...what the hell... http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4605.jpg |
Looks good Ned.... One more item checked off the "to do" list!
Are you doing this while laying on your back? Or is the car now on a rotisserie? |
Then I got all my Ridetech compressor stuff. When I mocked everything up I had some concerns with the speaker hole in the rear deck. I do plan on having a stereo....but will probably not listen to it much :). I wanted to sink the stuff as deep into the trunk as possible to retain as much trunk as I could. But if I did, the tank sat right under the speaker hole and left about 2 inches from deck to tank...not enough for a speaker. Ridetech has a more narrow and taller 7 gallon tank, that would fit between the speaker holes, but was just a tad too tall to fit.
So ultimately I ended up mounting the stuff towards the back of the car more than I had hoped for, so I did lose more trunk than I would have liked, but its the best compromise I could come up with. I should be able to get a speaker in there. I had thought about flipping it all around, but that would put all the connections on the back and make it real hard to get to if/when I need to. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4682.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4680.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4681.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4683.jpg I wanted to take the time to thank Tony Bicknell at Ridetech.... I've been bugging the crap out of him with questions and trying to tweak my set-up to shorten the harness's etc etc....he's been fantastic. All my interactions with Ridetech have been great..... thank you.. |
Hey Greg.... I put the car back on the rotisserie to do alot of stuff on the underside. My welding skills are sketchy already, so I try and make my life easier and do a better job but having the car in a nice orientation. Much easier.....
|
Then my wheels arrived !!!!!
It was a long wait to get the 20x12's..but it was worth it.!!! I got them all mounted and put under the car. There is no rearend right now, so the rears are just sitting under there... Front is 19x8 with a 245-35-19.....now seeing them on there, I probably could have gone with just a tad more sidewall. At the time I bought them...like 2 years ago....I wanted to make sure I got the front end low, but still be able to turn the car and still have some lip to the wheel etc etc. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4671.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4676.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4675.jpg The rear is a 20x12....it has a 4.5 inch lip.. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4672.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4677.jpg |
I see your post shows the rotisserie.... I was too quick on the trigger...
Looks really good - and am thrilled to see the progress! It always reinvigorates "the builder" to get something "done". :woot: Was thinking about your "speaker" issue.... you have cut off wheels - and a welder... you could (if you have the room) relocate the oval speaker "holes" over a bit to make some clearance? Or turn them on an angle? |
This is the car at our ride height with just flat stock in place of the Shockwaves. Tim modified the front k-frame and rear mounts to get this ride height.
It sits BAD ASS!!!!....but I think I may need to raise the rear a tad. Just visually I think I'm gonna have a bunch of clearence issues with the rear end....hitting the trunk floor ...tubes hitting the frame. Nothing that cant be changed, but just more work...... I'm not sure if the specs on the shocks are different than i thought...I based the holes on the flat stock on the specs I found....or if Tim didnt try and drop the car once he set the ride height. He had the actual Shockwaves on there at the time....so I hope the issue is on my end. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4692.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4696.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4693.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4695.jpg It will be a balance of getting the ride height right and not having to re-do the entire tunnel, make clearecne in the trunk for the the diff, and be able to get exhaust through there...we'll see. Right now, I can adjust some stuff and see what I can do... |
I tried to come up with a bunch of ideas for the speakers..... there isnt much room towards the outside....plus I may run a cage and need some space for the downbars..... turning them at an angle wouldnt change anything since its the magnet that is the issue. I though about going smaller, but couldnt find a decent 3 way speaker that would work. Thought about rasing them up.....I though of a 100x different option but finally just went with this.....
I also did a rough trim on the original rear panel to fit the tubs. I'm planning on using them as a good starting place for the final ones. I think I should be able to use them as the base and add some fiberglass etc etc and then get them covered. If nothing else I use them as a template. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4688.jpg http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_4690.jpg |
Sits bad ass is right, Ned!!! I'm digging it.
Keep us posted bud. Looking good. |
Ned ---
I'd modify the TANK.... with a couple of indentations for the speaker clearance... But that's just me. LOL |
Looks killer Ned, are you leaving the wheel centers polished or weren't they supposed to be black?
|
Good wheel choice Ned......looks like a great stance
|
personally I'd skip the whole stereo thing, it's not like you will even enjoy it...not like when driving the car like a bat out of h3ll :D
|
The car looks great.
|
Wow, Look nice Ned
 |
Rybar....some of the renderings Carter came up with did have the dark wheels, but those were just some ideas..... I'm still up in the air about paint, but I do know there will be a fair bit of billet etc, so I went with the brushed and polished.
I'm not a huge fan of the dark wheels look, but on the right car and with the right paint, they look awesome....but not on this project. |
I'm thinking Panther Pink!
:woot:  |
2 or 3 piece wheels? im at the livewire/rated x decision for my 70 chevelle. i HATE decisions.
i can really appreciate all the work done to make this car sit right. i would be done by now if i didnt have the same objective. ive done so much cutting to make it better than "okay". keep up the good work!! fwiw........ my screen shows 14 pages for this thread. i just realized that 7 of those were from greg. how come i cant have a motivator? ;) |
They are 2 piece wheels..
And yes....Greg is never shy in jumping into a conversation :) I think he holds the record for the most posts in the shortest time... |

Hey Ned - Finally got home to see the pics, wheels and stance look great! Let me know when you are ready to measure for the rear. -Rob
|
Thanks Mario... I'll let you know. With some luck it will be later this year...
Rob... I think I've got it all measured out.....gonna go over it one more time today or tomorrow and place my order. |
So Ned ---
I'll stop by your house on my way to WC RTTH -- have your bags packed - I'll come thru there WEDNESDAY MARCH 31st -- dropping off the Corvette C4 IRS for Deuce at a shop in Hesperia (for his 35 Ford build)... then a shop tour or two with DFRESH on Thursday... So you'd miss work on WED - THURS - FRIDAY - be home on SUNDAY... What say you? I've got the room... Doug will feed you... and Todd will rag on you.. What's not to like?? Or? Fly down Friday - I'll pick you at at airport... will drop you at your house on Sunday... ROB.... YOU IN?? :woot: |
What are you driving down ?
Interesting.... I may take you up on this.... I really wanted to go, but didnt want to haul my car all the way down there. Figured if I wasnt bringing my car then whats the point.... |
Just driving Miss Daisy.... the big ol' dually -- cause I'm hauling the IRS to Hesperia (might as well - kill two birds with one stone - and what else do I have to do...LOL)
Got room for 4 in the truck... Me and 3 I haven't booked my room yet - just emailed Bill H to see what the "official" hotel was... |

Hey Greg, Thanks very much for the invite, BUT as it happens I have a new boss starting on Monday of that week, so it's not an ideal time to be taking vacation days...I'm still counting on hitching a ride to Sema with you this year, though! |

$600 in gas is what tells me to haul it :)

Best thing you could do is to show him what it's going to be like the rest of the time! You'll take off whenever you please... and you'll be back to work when you get there... in the meantime - if he needs something... send an email or a text!  Yes - I have not forgotten SEMA show! |
Greg, believe me, I hope to get to the level of interpersonal understanding with my new boss, that you describe. I had that, with my old boss for many years...About a year ago they gave him the heave-ho. Such is life in the semiconductor industry these days...
Ned you should put your car on my trailer, and go to WC RTTH with Greg, he has the tow vehicle side of things well covered. |

WHAT HE SAID!! :woot: :woot: |
Yeah, come on Ned---hang with us over the weekend--geez--free tow, free food--well Sat night anyways, and cool people--speaking for myself only--LOL
Doug |
Looks pretty cool Ned, like the wheel choice. You ever get the exhaust routing figured out.
