Are you going with the 18" primarily for looks or because of the brake package? 16" seems to be the class norm. I haven't decided if I want to down size My current Bear brakes and go to 16" wheels with the de rigueur Goodyear slicks, or keep the brakes and go with the bigger wheels. The true racing slicks get obscenely expensive in those sizes as can be the cost of big wheels. Guess it will depend on if I can get the weight down or not. Decisions, decisions.

I am going with 18" x 12" rears with a 345-35-18 Hoosier A6 and 17" x 12" fronts with 335-35-17 Hoosier A6. The car will be able to run 16" x 12" with Goodyears if needed. Tire technology has come so far the past few years. The A6 is just as fast or faster than the Goodyears. Both tire packages are stupid expensive.:omg:

conekiller13 08-16-2010 03:17 PM

Has anybody said which tires have a better wear rate between the Hoosiers and the Goodyears? I know the Corvette guys running SS are lucky to get a full season out the A6 before it is showing cords. Having to buy two sets a year is a really big expense. I may have to start selling body parts for that.......anyone need an over size gut?

They are about the same, from what I have seen. Maybe a bit more life out of the A6. Both require you to bend over and grab your ankles.:wow:

All the Lizard Skin has been applied and everything has been painted satin black. The bed liner will be sprayed tomorrow on the inside floor and trunk.

As the paint shop has been taking care of the inside and underside, the body shop is getting the front end ready to fit on the car. We made it so the entire front end will unbolt and leave behind the radiator support.

We used the UPOL Raptor liner. Easy to use and looks great. We have used this for truck beds and have been very happy with it. I have done a lot of research for our shop for bedliner material, and the UPOL seams to be the best of all worlds. No special equipment needed except the spray gun.

The rear will have some liners in the quarter panels. Maier Racing will fab those up later.

Thanks.

Brian

Thank's I will ask the paint wholesaler about it.Look's great.

We have been working hard the last few weeks. We are probably about 2 - 3 weeks from going to the paint shop.

It will have two road race seats with 5 point harnesses. I plan on giving a lot of rides. :D

You got it! Next year, you need to come down to an American Autocross Series event. The best courses and 5 runs.

conekiller13 08-18-2010 05:24 PM

Where do they run at?

You should come up to one of our Oregon Region SCCA events at the Hampton Mills site in Packwood Wa. Two days with 6-8 or maybe more runs each day on an almost one mile (55-70sec) course. We do about three weekend events a year there not including National Tour.

Take a look here for some cool pictuers of the site and cars........I can't seem to copy any here, just little red x's
The second to the last picture on the loer right on page one is what I'm racing this year.

I have heard of the great events held in your part of the world. I hope to go up there next year.

Nice EP Mazda. I am fortunate to run with Tom Ellam and Dwayne Komush in EP in Nor Cal.

We took a couple weeks off the Camaro as we got very busy in the shop. Tomorrow we will be going back to it. The front end needs to get finished up. Hopefully, the car will be ready to be painted by the end of next week. I should have some good progress shots to post in a few days.

I will post some progress shots tomorrow. We have the front end on and gaps are lined up. We are in the process of final body work on the front and then finish off the flares. :D

Still waiting impatiently:willy:

73CPCAMARO 09-21-2010 04:46 PM

Sorry for the delay on the photos. We have done a lot of work and photos just don't show all of it. Here is where we are at now. The flares will be completed in the next couple days. Reworking the flares has taken a lot of time. Getting the gaps perfect has also taken a lot of time. We are working hard at getting the car into the paint shop for next week. So much work!!

How much would it cost to have the same tubeular work done on my 70?

My suggestion is to contact Mike Maier at www.maierracing.com. He did all the work and he can give you an idea. Sorry not to give you a dollar amount. I had a lot of work done by Mike and I do not know the breakdown of just the cage.

73CPCAMARO 09-24-2010 05:06 PM

We spent this week reworking the left side fender flare to match our final product on the right side. The flares have been reworked a few times, each time getting better and better until we got what we wanted. Here are some photos showing the flare on the left side that we did not like and what we ended up with to have matching flares that we are very happy with.

Old flare:

Final results that we are happy with:

Not even baby-eating either... it could consume medium-sized children with little effort.

We have been doing all the little things to finalize the body before paint. Of course, we did a few more things we did not count on. We did not like the cowl hood with the large spine down the center. It was also a bit uneven from the mold. The drivers side of the cowl was cut down and we made the top flat with a small body line down the center. The front nose is also near completion. All the lines where the nose pieces butt up against the fenders and nose extention are bonded and seams removed. The fiberglass deck lid with the molded spoiler was also modified. We added reinforcement to the spoiler and gave it more of a finished look.
A variety of other small custom items have been added.

Here is the hood before the modification

Brian,

I searched but didn't find it. Can you tell us what those hood latches are? Those look pretty interesting.

Thanx!
