That's awesome Dave---great progress bro--glad to see that you are throwing in and turning wrenches on it as well---looking forward to Feb bro. Sounds like you will be ready. I'd try the car with and without the new bar connected to see what you get.

Dave the car is coming along nicely. That champ pan sure is a nice piece.
I really love the look of your car it has a nasty street fighter look to it. It was nice to check it out in person last week.

Well my research, along with some consulting with Dave Pozzi, said a rear bar would be beneficial. It seems you 4 linked boys are usually better are off without a bar than us poor leaf springers. At least that's what I could find.

Yeah, you're prolly right on the cam... but it's just too big and fun for now, and I gotta stop the bleeding on this project somewhere. I think I've decided to run this motor for 2011 and aim to swap to LSx next winter. Whoa.. did I just say that? :willy:

The budget is going down the toilet that's for sure Greg. :woot:

Yep, I love it and I hate it. That's why I originally bought this car -- so I didn't have to take it apart and do what I am doing now. But I guess that's what my entry in RTTC "forced" me into.

Yep, shooting for 2 weeks from now to be back on the road. 3 weeks tops. Yeah just the trans and motor reinstall now, then some minor things like mount my fire extinguisher, GoPro cam, and some roll cage padding.

Any idea who made the front suspension bars in this pick:

Did they go back on?

Thanks, and yes they will be going back on. Might be my favorite pieces of the car! Performance Dyno Tuning fabbed them up for the previous owner - they are in Oakdale, CA.

I am having a blast working on the car even with my lowly skill level. It's been almost 20 years since I really worked on cars so it's a lot of reward. Yeah I think we might try to do the local Marina autoX if possible before coming down -- at a minimum some very spirited street driving. :D

Pretty good progress this weekend after 2 good days in the shop. The motor is pretty much re-assembled. Waiting on a couple accessories that should come in this week to finish it off.

I seem to have found my calling as parts runner and solvent tank specialist. :D

We discovered what clutch I have. As everyone knows, it's one of those bad ass special custom jobs by "Roy" It actually felt and worked pretty good for the 500 miles I put on it. I thought it required about the same pedal effort as the McLeod RST 800hp clutch I ran in my last Camaro.

Valvetrain before stud girdles installed.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF3144.jpg

I like the silver finish on this Champ pan much better than the gold of the CV pan I almost put on.

I liked this pic of my 377 with Rich's cross rammed 350 in the background.

We hope to have the drivetrain back in and running by this coming weekend.

You're a real stud with your girdle on.

What are looking at for numbers on power and torque?

Thanks man. The motor was dyno tune in 2008 and hit 469 rwhp, so that's about 550 crank using 15% drivetrain loss. But, that number was at 6500 rpm where they shut off the dyno. This configuration is made to scream to 7000+ rpm so there's maybe some more power in it than that.

We got the motor back in and fired up this weekend. There's nothing quite like the sound of open headers at 7k rpm. This was an older camera of mine and it doesn't even close to capturing the sound of this thing.

New power steering pump from PSC. Looks like a very nice piece.

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF3251.jpg

http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF3258.jpg

Just need to mount the forward bars, breed blakes, mount wheels/tires, e-brake cables, and then ready to put some road miles on it.

One thing we are pretty excited about was we are almost certain that previously it never saw full throttle because of the throttle linkage setup. It wasn't even close to wide open with full pedal mash. Like a 1/2" off. So the 500 miles I put on this previously might have been at a significantly lower power level than its potential. That would be sweet.

If we can, we are going to try to make the Marina autoX next weekend.

CrossRamRich 01-23-2011 09:01 PM

Damn!, forgot the bananas!

You were only getting half throttle before ?!??! oh my....

Hey did you ever figure out what that thing is pressing up against your brake master cylinder? Just curious.

Hope to see it again soon.

Thanks J! Yeah, I don't know if we were getting 3/4 throttle or what, but it sure doesn't add up that we ever had near full, so this could be fun.

Near the MC... you referring to the proportioning valve? I don't remember....

that part that looks like it is tightened against the front of the MC that is attached to the bar, you can see it in the last pic. Again just curious no biggee :)

Thanks Mike. It was just a little extra care and attention to drop the motor in with it but once it's in it fits great. We do need to figure out a dipstick for it... nothing for now as that is a little bitch of a project.

manny z 01-24-2011 11:51 AM

hay!!!

Hay bud, glad to see that you have gotten yourself another car. Looks good. You should take it to sears, or thunderhill to have some fun.

My car is still at Jasons. I had a few issues I had to get squared away, but now he is back on the car full speed.

mdprovee 01-24-2011 11:53 AM

So are you saying you can use a stock type dipstick with this pan. I was not aware of this. Damn!

Yo Manny! Good to hear from ya. I'd love to take my car somewhere around here. We'll see how it does at RTTC next month and then go from there.

Good deal on your ride. When you think it will be finished? The Gearhead crew is a great group of guys for sure.

We are not sure what we will do. But most everyone running one of these RR pans I have seen has trouble fitting a dipstick. Definitely takes some modding. Will let you know what we end up doing. The Hooker headers are not the best for clearance.

I had the Spintech Sportsman XL's on Vertigo and they sounded good too, albeit a little quieter. Yeah, open headers is fun for awhile. :D
