Finally some progress on the garage even if it is outside !
When I built the garage it took all my funds and fixing around the building went unfinished. Well this week we put the concrete in front and around the side and back. When I built the house the builder paved where he cut to put the water service and sewer, which promptly sunk. It was like that for many years until now. This is what we drove over http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...s/000_0948.jpg Now for the work. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps4195dc66.png Before I retired I was a construction laborer and a grade forman but that was five years ago. Boy do I remember why I had to retire ! We got a machine and dump truck and I was on the shovel again, and got it ready for the concrete placement. Here are few pictures of it going in. I put a small catch basin and I'm putting a Flo well to catch water from the down spout. so the side walk won't be covered in ice all winter. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps7aac836d.png http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pse27f43af.png And the finished product. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps8d6b65fd.png The part closest in the picture is where it was sunk in. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psdf7dad36.png |
Awesome Wayne! That has to feel good!

Looks great Wayne, gotta love it when you get a project finished up!
|
Lookin good man. Homestretch.

I feel your pain Wayne. It's been years since I've done any foundation work and I recently formed and placed rebar for a detached garage/shop I am building at my house.
Looking great, congrats!! |

Thanks! I really appreciated having it done when I went out to shovel the snow today. I won't have to pick out a wheelbarrow full of stone from my lawn this spring.

Dry well finished
Well I finally got the dry well for my down spout for the garage in this weekend.
Here's the catch basin going in when we did the sidewalk. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps7aac836d.png Here is what I used for the dry well. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psoynodlgq.jpg I dug a hole 4'x4'x almost 4' deep for it. Its been a long time since I used a pick and shovel, it took a little over 4 hours to dig. then I lined it with filter fabric, put small pieces of granite for it to rest and some 3/4" stone. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psiisl8r4d.jpg Ordered 2 yards of 3/4" stone ( which was supposed to be washed but wasn't!) to back filled it trying not to get too many fines in with it. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psazsmx8cc.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psazgonodc.jpg Now it's to get some loam and sod. I'm going to put sod in should I kill off all the grass that's already there then rototill or just rototill and rake it all out? What should I use to kill it and then be able to put sod without it bothering the sod? |
Good job Wayne.
Sounds and looks like rough work! |
HEAT finally
Finally got my heat installed and already used it a couple of times.

It's 16* here tonight --- and was 0* this morning... I spent the day down at the shed.... and it was so nice and toasty! A guy has to have heat or our brains don't even function <they barely do anyway>. Good for you Wayne!

Thanks Greg. Too early for that cold here, I hope!!

Wayne I just read all of the build, just a beautiful job! Gotta love your neighbor  I recently built a 30x30 here in my back yard. I have to say I'm ignorant about why the foundation is needed? mine was done on a slab guess cause the winter differences where we live. I didn't see your attic in this just an attic stair, and the ebay and Craig's list whore made me laugh out loud as I sourced a lot of my materials from Craig's even my lift! I'm glad when mine was done I'm sure you are too. I read about a Camaro I think we need to see that in there :popcorn2:

Thanks ZMAN yes it was quite the experience. As far as the foundation we have a 4-1/2 foot frost line so you have to be below that to build. To get the hight I needed to match the house foundation it was close to 8 feet tall so we did the same all the way around.
In the attic I won't have much storage because I went with a truss roof. The way the building inspector explained it, that was my only course to go. Later I found out that I could have gone with storage upstairs as long as it was engineered. ( which they made me get an engineer)That was 2 strike for that Pr--k. He was the one that told me I needed a variance to build. The night we went before the board the chairman asked about the project and why I didn't move it over 1' so it would meet the requirements and not need a variance. That was after I asked the inspector if there was anything I could do to avoid going before the board. It cost me over $2500 extra that I didn't have for something I didn't need. So glad that's over! |
OK gotcha on the foundation. I have a 30' span and my trusses were engineered
and seems like I had alot fewer inspections foundation, framing, electrical, roof? hell I dont remember - was like 4 or 5 max I do remeber talking with them about A/C and they said the windows needed to pass :buttkick: WTH? its not living space and no running water. I did add a 2 ton window unit that is GREAT! good job on you build looks great |
Thanks!
