So what did you see/find out today Greg?

We're going to whack the front out of the car (Kugel IFS) and try to get the whole car to sit WAY lower... which means we might also need to hack the back to get it all just so. Thus they're not welding in the rear just yet! We also discussed getting the caster just right -- and getting it right with the rack with the chassis set up with the ride/rake it will end up with. There's not much point in dialing in 5* of caster and then taking it all away by jacking up the ass end! LOL Checked out the rear end -- way kool stuff! Gears in the back make the rear a 3:91 or swap them top for bottom and you have a 4:34 --- Get a couple different "sets" (two gears) and make it something else altogether. Guess that's why they call 'em "quick changes". The rear is really made by WINTERS - it's their CHAMPS unit which is heavy duty... but, of course, it's set up with all the Kugel Komponents arms etc. |

Pretty much! I seem to be the one that is increasing the "scope" of the project... Typical customer right! :woot: |
I'm sure you/they are gonna do what it takes to get it "right". Very cool project. I love these little cars! -
|
WOW Greg, I hate to say it this way, but I will. I like you new rear....end that is.
|
So basically you could of just kept the a-arms and just gone with a new frame!!

That is going to be so killer on that new ride Greg! Please tell me your going to install a rear view "under the car" camera so you can watch that amazing rear end moving on a nice 7" LCD monitor in the dash..forget the new updated gauges, just looking at that chrome artwork moving under the car is enough!   Congrats on the project..and its going to be killer when its all done. -Jim |
Looks good. If this is just a few "tweaks" I'd be interested to see what your definition of a full on build would be :D

Yeah.... pretty much. :wow: :wow: :willy: Quote:
I like your thinking Jim! Quote:
Sadly John.... this is kind of the way I always end up doing stuff.... When I used to do NCRS Corvettes -- I had one that I full on frame off restored 3 times in 10 years... My Nomad which I bought ALL DONE 12 years ago - now has a new chassis - it's on it's 4th motor... 3rd core support... 4th aluminum radiator... It is a sickness -- and I've got it.  :woot: |
I have a black truck that you could redo and change to your hearts content. No greater satisfaction then fixing something that was not broke.

Gonna be a mean little hot rod for sure. Keep us posted. |
cause May is when it stops raining in Washington.
|
So here's the body dropped on the chassis for a little test fit. NO those are not my tires - they're just some they had around. Mine will be 'mo bigga

Trying to get the stance right -- and the front just won't come down with the IFS in there as it is -- so it gets whacked... will also try a smaller dia tire up front and a larger dia in back -- STANCE IS JUST TOO CRITICAL to not get it right now!
The front needs to come down at least an inch more.... http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/CIMG5490.jpg |
Just a learning curve item for you guys that haven't done this before -- or are planning on installing a cross member front end some time....
As you jack the back up (or drop it) and or drop or raise the nose... that will change the caster! So make sure you have the stance set up before you weld all this stuff in! Right now - with this stance - my caster is at about 0*.... and these little POS drive like crap as it is -- let alone being at 0*. So you have to whack it and change it no matter what if you want it right. That little statement doesn't make me a suspension guru.... I'm just saying - to those that read these threads etc... I'm trying to help someone that isn't aware of this stuff just to think about it. |
looking at those pics, I don't think I like high boys.
Even with the front lowered. You won't need to put it on the lift to work underneath it. |

Trying to get the front down 1 1/2" or so. We have to be careful in the rear because of the body lines/exposed tire radius... you can mess that relationship up real easy. I'm a thinkin' that SAR has done this before.... and will be able to tune in on it. |
This is the stance I'm looking for - but it's far easier to get here with a dropped straight axle! I have the Kugel IFS.... and that creates it's own issues. This is a buddies '32 and I love the color and stance of the build.

That was a photo I did in iPhone ColorSplash.... here's the color.

I like what your doing and like giving you a hard time.
This is more of the stance I like. http://www.babez.de/wp-content/uploa...ie32-titel.jpg |
Dude -- That (your BABY blue '32 pic) just ain't right!
And if you took the pic kneeling down -- that is a HIGH BOY! :willy: :willy: :willy:   |
Smeding Performance has shipped the 383 directly to SAR and Imagine Injection notified me that the 8 Stack EFI intake and harness etc has been shipped to them from Comp Cams (Inglese Injection).
We're making some headway on the chassis set up: Front suspension; Front crossmember moved up 1 1/2", 2 degrees of caster w/control arms in a neutral position, sway bar moved down. Rear suspension; Set rear axle back 1/4" to center wheel in the wheel well (body is different from side to side), pinion angle set at 1 1/2 degrees upwards, front and rear setting at projected rake with rear tire at 31" dia. and front at 24" dia.. The rear pinion support rods and the lower radius rods have new 1 1/4" dia. cross members and they tie in at the outer frame rails. The support rods will triangulate to the lower rods for strength. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/CIMG5497.jpg http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/CIMG5498.jpg I also asked them to "open up" the chassis frame horns. At some point the brake thru frames leaked fluid into the frame. Only way to do it right is to open it up and clean that crap outta there! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/CIMG5496.jpg |
Thanks for the pics! I love seeing all the progress! Can't wait to see it in person!!
|
Very nice Greg.
That is going to be one mean little machine. |
I've always been partial to this one:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3262/...c0ca4721_z.jpg Hey.......it's red right? |
Here's the Inglese intake for the roadster....
I have to thank Kenny D for talking me into having it powder coated before it was to be painted to match... that "seals" the intake. I think Inglese did one heck of a job getting this thing done. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/IMG_0175.jpg |
Wow It Looks sweet!
|
Looks pretty sweet Greg. Happy birthday... I mean Christmas.. to you. :D
|
Tasty.
|
Greg, that '32 is a piece of art, everything about it has some attention to detail, from the headers (or at least the concept drawing :unibrow: ) the Kugel rearend is awesome, and now the Inglese intake, you are paying attention to detail.
|
Very nice Greg. Looks killer.
Good call on the powder coat. |
Wait... the red is powder coat?
|
32
Man that's going to be nice when it's back together.
|
I like the intake Greg.

Thanks Mike! I was trying to do something a little "different" with the stacks because my plan is to have open hood sides on the '32... and wanted the stacks to stand out against all the red paint. Not sure what valve covers I'm going to do yet -- and the block will be body color - with aluminum heads - so don't want just a mass of aluminum on top. I'm also shopping now for velocity stacks. I've got the C. Cooks Enterprises versions on the Nomad and LOVE THEM. Super high quality pieces... but they're kind of short... and I need the height to fill the space. |

No --- the intake was powder coated -- then painted the red. I think the powder coat was gray if I remember the discussion. Apparently the powder coat seals the cast intake - and it's easy to sand so makes a nice base for the paint. Forget about the cost of doing that.... cause you first have to polish the intake - then powder coat it - then have it painted.... and on and on and on.... but that's the look I wanted. |
