Congratulation's Greg. I'm sure it wasn't easy finalizing all of your options but I bet it was fun. Hope the construction phase runs smoothly for you.

GregWeld 04-16-2012 05:55 PM

Thanks Gae!

It's fun -- but there's LOTS of choices and options... and having never had one before leaves me at a bit of a disadvantage. It's hard to know what you'll use and what you won't and HOW you're going to use it... so I've kind of taken the "better to have it and not need it... than need it and not have it" approach.

It's the BIG things I don't want to get wrong... thus the increase to the 600 HP Cummins ISX motor --- and upgraded to the ALLISON automatic transmission etc.

I trust the dealership/salesman... they are experts -- I like working with him so also have to put a lot of trust in his guidance.

Sounds like a nice powerplant for that Impala of yours. :D

Yeah I agree - I'd go crazy trying to decided on the million options.:willy:

Just think of it as a mobile home away from home with the bonus of being able to take your toys with you and you should be in good shape. I would think the most important things to know would be your utility and waste hook ups and knowing the locations to dump the latter. Everything else is just a bonus.
If I could afford one of those bad boys I dont think I'd ever come home.

sik68 04-16-2012 07:51 PM

Congrats on placing the order!

We have a family friend who lives in CA but took delivery out of state...there was an idle period where it had to stay out of CA, and then they didn't pay sales tax on their 43 footer. Wondering if WA gives you has that same loophole? Ever heard of this?

Ha, I know people who've used that trick with delivery of engagement rings.

The whole time I've been here in Washington DC I've been thinking about running Watkins Glen! Making big plans for big road tripping'!

Wow, that will be awesome!! So, I have to ask, what does Gwen think of all of this? Will she be coming with?

GregWeld 04-17-2012 06:49 AM

She had a great time at Bondurant.... and will make some track events with me . If the didn't think she would - I'd have gone with a smaller toter and probably a little more utilitarian....

She's going to drive the Mustang (with instructor) at Thunderhill this month... and I'll just hope that Charley doesn't run her off. Or run off with her.

I sold the idea that this would be similar to our boat... go anywhere - any time - hassle free (ha!) way to mess about the country. We'll just use various "dates" of events (shows or track days) to go somewhere... then mess around going to and from.

If she doesn't like it.... My friends will!

clill 04-17-2012 06:55 AM

Make sure to get that car on the lift and nut and bolt everything. Don't need Gwen staring at you thinking "Why oh why did I let this idiot talk me into driving this POS car"

GregWeld 04-17-2012 07:02 AM

New oil (Redline 40wt Racing) and filter --- ran the rack @ .018 hot lash -- new front rotors and pads -- bled all old fluid and filled with Wilwood racing fluid... inspected anything and everything I could lay a hand on. Two new sets of tires mounted and ready to go.

If she crashes it - she will be disinvited from all further events.

Just out of curiosity, what was she driving at Bondurant? I mean I really want to see her like this stuff but if she wasn't driving the Mustang.........just sayin', might want to find her something a little easier to drive. You dont want to be picking up pieces of your transmission off of the Thunderhill tarmak.

GregWeld 04-17-2012 08:58 AM

She was in the SS Camaros with the 6 speed.

I have her scheduled with an instructor ride-along for both days - yellow group - at TH.

The car will be way more than she can get into... but I want her to experience it anyway.

If she can't handle it -- I'll let her ride in something far tamer - like Todd's at Buttomwillow. :unibrow:

Good luck with that.....

When I can park it INSIDE his shop -- He can crap inside mine....

I have a rule here at the house -- there's a spot out back of the shop to pee --- anything more than that and you'll have to go home.

If you are gonna go with the classy blue... I would have to stay away from the hot rod flames... just to "typical"

I would say go with OD green...white stars on the doors, radioactive symbols all over it, big letters saying protective gear must be worn within 75 feet... and never worry about getting pulled over.... thats just me

back to the blue.... leave it clean and classy... except the back door.. where it says "uncle greg's midget unicorn petting zoo" or would the "pc" version be "pigmy unicorn"

Permanent "haz mat" placards.... now you're talkin'!

Some quick math ---- if I spend 30 days per year for the next 10 years in this thing -- I can do that at the bargain basement rate of $2200 per night.... NOT including fuel - maintenance - insurance - etc.

For that kind of $ it should come with hooker service....
