Looks good! What did you do to the rear package tray? Also, was your car a vinyl top car?
|
Quote:
I removed the glue and paint from the tray and the surrounding areas (discing anything with gold) and started on the inside panels up to the roof, surface rust of course  No vinyl top car here just a plain coupe! |
I see you have a replacement rear window filler panel you primed. It's been with my experience most vinyl top cars would typically rot in the seam of that panel. My car is originally a vinyl top car and it had some pretty bad rot there which forced me to replace that panel. As with all reproduction panels, it needed tweaking to fit right up against my NOS quarters.
My computer won't read my memory card for some reason, so I haven't been able to make any updates on my car. I've been making progress though. |

Hey, did you ever get the parts from that warehouse deal? I saw you got one mini tub in, how's the other one coming along? I haven't ordered mine yet. |
Self-leveling seam sealer where? In the rear window filler panel to quarter or in the trunk weatherstrip seam area?
I have the mini tubs done. I still need to attach the passenger side trunk support brace and then make the closeout pieces at the package tray area. I'm thinking about making a panel that closes off the trunk completely from the interior compartment, so not ready to finish that part yet. I do have the new part here. Ready whenever you are:) |

Congrats on the mini tubs :hail: Thanks on the gas cap ... I won't forget! |
Primer looks good, now your tree wont rust!!!
|
I know money doesn't grow on trees but your lucky down in Texas you have Camaro parts growing on trees. If you wait longer do they turn from green to another color when they're ripe?? It looks like you did a nice job laying down the primer.

Thanks for noticing! |
I had forgotten that your car was gold. You have mentioned it a couple times lately and that reminded me that was a commonality we had, except mine was Ash gold being a '68.
You should be very proud of that tree. If you have anything small like a sidemarker bezel or bracket off of it you don't need ship it to MN! I could plant it. We'll see if it takes. I'd water it real well, it is farm country.... Similar growing season and climate really.:D Keep up the great work Chief! A little every day is a tough oath to keep but I am trying to get there. |

Little everyday is right - colonoscopy this morning and I'm sitting on the porch with a grey scotch brite scuffing the intake and the water pump for the third coat of POR15  Just gotta get done ... might as well be now! |
I thought after the procedure you were having a "grey scotch", and I was thinking whats "grey scotch", then I saw the word "brite"? LOL
|

BTW, Hope that procedure was uneventful and all is well. |

More POR15
Almost finished the intake last nite, need to do the water pump still, so I taped off the exhaust around the headers this morning. I then realized I've had these headers since 2000 and have never bolted them on to the engine .... guess I'm not alone amongst the gearheads?
So ... not too exciting, but the POR is soaking into the Al intake (3 coats) so I may spray the heads after masking off and see if there is a primer I can use first to help with coverage, who knows? http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/8598/120602602.jpg She's ORANGE  http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/5684/120602597.jpg Headers bolted on for the first time! While the intake is drying I'm gonna get the underside of the deck lid cleaned off and maybe spray some epoxy later today .... supposed to have severe thunder storms and HAIL? today :( I hope not cuz I just got my trunk outa the body shop Friday from the last hail storm, new hood and paint and PDR on the roof. Continued ..... |
That's a pretty killer looking motor in my opinion. I love the sbc orange against the aluminum, and the intake is really intriguing me. I fought smoke stains on mine last summer trying several products by spot treating it for effectiveness.
When all is said and done I could have just pulled it and reblasted it. When I painted the motor it did cross my mind to do the intake. Did I read you are using POR in different colors or am I imagining that? I take it you are really a fan of the POR products? I am looking to select a really tough black for the undercarriage and other areas. I do not want to spray it in some areas though to avoid the risk of under masking and getting overspray. |
POR15 is the sheets!!!!
Quote:
Thanks .... yes I am using different colors of POR, silver for the body work and then cover that with their Chasis Coat Black (knowing you covered everything with change of colors) and of course Chevy Orange for the motor. As long as you use their Prep and Ready and Marine Clean this stuff will last forever  I will reduce their black and spray my undercarriage and then a liner spray for texture and reduce chips/ sound deadener. Did the underside of the trunk and then it's blowing and raining outside of course ... and what's up with the METRIC bolts in the latch? :( repop! http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/4517/120602604.jpg Ready for epoxy. So I'm gonna keep going and get the cowl stripped and ready for epoxy. |
Quote:
It looks surprisingly smooth and glossy so I have to ask how you are laying it down. I want to paint/coat my floor 1st without masking everything inside/out. I have a rear diff and new leaf springs I want to do too as far as black goes right now. |
Quote:
I can't see doing the undercarriage by brush :willy: so I'll buy their reducer and spray on the black. |
WOW! I cant believe you have so much motivation still! I'm worried about how much rust mine may have now :/ Keep on going! You are doing a very good job at doing everything right the first time!
|
Persistence!

Got the cowl finished today and I thought maybe I'd be able to spray epoxy later but the wind is kicking and it's spitting again ... maybe tomorrow. http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/408/120602609.jpg Finished the cowl. http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/5810/120602613.jpg Little finish work left. I still need to weld the OEM brackets and wiring hold downs to the new cowl, it's always something huh  |
Almost ready for the mini tubs. Looking good

HAHA! There's not so bad. I just have a tendency to over-complicate things. You can handle 'em!

Spraying Epoxy
Quote:
Got everything prepped for some epoxy this morning and as I got ready the heat increased, man it's gotta be 90 out right now, but the epoxy laid down nice. It's a milestone to get some parts in epoxy, it's gonna be cool to see the body ready for primer  The cowl was a PITA to sand the inside, so much that I cut my arm and was bleeding all over the cowl, then I had to clean all the spots of blood off :( But the cowl came out great and looks nice on the car ... just gotta keep going. http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/2643/120603616.jpg Sprayin epoxy finally! http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/4638/120603631.jpg That was alota work for some color  http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/343/120603623.jpg Underside is nice now! http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/8928/120603628.jpg Gotta ding that needs filling, no biggy! I think I'm gonna POR my water pump in the laundry room and stay cool ... too hot in the garage! Thanks for looking .... more to come:cheers: |
Time well spent
in the garage with the DeWalt discing some of the interior panels. Between the garage being around 90 degrees and the smell of lacquer thinner to clean the undercoating I was starting to hallucinate, so only a couple hours stay time.
http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/7717/120606635.jpg Getting ready for epoxy. http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/2315/120606638.jpg Rust on the inside of the quarter :( http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/8720/120606634.jpg Got both sides down to metal. The inside of the quarter panel has rust issues and I'm not sure how to take care of that ( I really don't want to do full quarters) ... the more I dig the more rust I find  Think I'm gonna have to invest in a sand blaster ... suggestions? Thanks for looking... |
A small sandblaster isn't a bad investment. Do you have enough air to run one is another question? A guy where I used to work had a very small pistol grip style with a hopper on top. Try searching spotblaster, that might be the trade name.
The pot style are cfm consuming beasts and when I borrowed one 2 decades ago is what prompted me to buy my 6.5hp/60gal upright. It has served me pretty well but there are far more impressive compressors out there... albeit they are 4 times the investment and up. I wanted to ask what primer you are using. I was recommended Dupont dp90 tonight and I don't know anything about primers/paints to speak of. |
Where inside the quarter are there rust issues? Around the wheel well lip?

I am using Acme Finish1 epoxy made be Martin Seymour and sold at our NAPA, it is a really nice product and lays down nice. I have used Martin Seymour primers before and they are high quality - hate to pay for just a name such as Dupont. Thanks for looking ... |
Mine were rotten around the wheel well opening. Every where else, with the exception on the drivers quarter at the rear window filler panel, was rust free. Your's look no where near as rusted as mine did. Quite frankly, I'm not seeing any rust issues from your pictures
|

Not sure if I can get that blasted or not, sure gonna try that first, we'll see. |
Spent time in
the trunk getting ready for epoxy. I started and figured I'd stay until it was done, and I didn't want to have to keep climbing in and out :unibrow:
Went to the GG car show yesterday and saw some awesome cars and meet some nice folks ... and took a lot of pictures. And then I came home and got to work on mine   Took some pixs of the quarter panel channel with the rust ... I'm gonna try and cut out the rust and break out my shrinker/ stretcher and follow the quarter panel down to the filler panel. Worse case scenario I replace the quarter :willy: http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/9190/120610843.jpg Driver's side rust http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/3739/120610846.jpg Underside http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/6961/120610844.jpg Passenger side rust http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/3757/120610848.jpg I made it out  http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/2550/120610857.jpg POR15 the trunk on the way out! Not so exciting but I was out there working on my car  Thanks ... |
   Way too keep at it.

Update 6/23
I know I have not posted in awhile ... it's field season and as a Fisheries Biologist that means you are in the field.
I have been working on a project that will help biologists determine species composition of their waters ... it's a tethered ROV (remote operated vehicle with video, lights and thrusters) that can be deployed from the boat and in conjunction with the sonar surveys provide live video (FISH PORN) back to the surface. We tested the ROV couple days ago and it works:thumbsup:  ,I made the cage outa 3/16 Al but .... I need to make some larger fins to stabilize the cage but she works and that's kool  Anyway, today was 102 and I spent most of the day getting ready for epoxy primer on the NOS fenders when it cooled off ..... mark time 2045 and tha's cuz I was running outa light. I didn't have enough primer to do the inside but I got the bare steel in primer and that's a good day. http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/9733/120623892.jpg NOS fenders in primer! http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/2299/120623889.jpg Yeah it's dark now! http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/5498/120619875j.jpg It's not the Camaro but I built it for work! http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/4606/120622886.jpg The ROV inside the cage ... "Scooter" I am gonna present my FISH PORN for the first time next week in Utah during a sonar workshop ... should go over well:woot: Thanks for looking .... later. |
Primer looks good,
Liking the GI joe sub!!! looks like fun to play remote control. what kind of fish are you looking at, |
Quote:
Fish species varies with body of water, we are gonna use the ROV to keep track of KOKanee in our large res that we take spawn. But the ROV can be used for various missions. |
