That was just shorty's, base tune to fire it. It's calmed down at bit..just a little though, now that it's learned somewhat. It was way fat at idle.

Hope to get a video driving it soon. Put about 20 miles on it and decided to pull the trans as it would not shift. New slave and master coming to try to diagnose it.

Are you using your same ECU or did you buy the MAST unit?
Same wire harness as before?

Nope, ECU (Holley HP) went with the motor to the Vette.

I have a Holley Dominator now to run the drive by wire tb. Also a Holley harness, but a different one of course. In my personal opinion, and I pay full price like everyone.., the Holley has got to be one if not, the best efi setup out there. It is truly plug and plat to get started, then it self learns the fuel curve. I couldn't imagine manually tuning out all the little hiccups at different engine loads. It just works. I'm considering going to one of there classes in Bowling Green to learn even more about all of the stuff I never even adjust. I'm sure it could be that much better if I did.

Did you use the Mast pan?

I saw the pics in your photobucket and was wondering if you would need to cut the crossmember on the frame to use that pan?

Do you know if the Holley pan will work on a stroked engine?

I did, only because I left the f-body pan on in the Vette. I have since acquired a winged Vette pan that I think I can use in the C2.

It would be very close. Not sure. Pics below.

That I do not know

kinda hard to see, but it looks like pan would clear, but it would be tight when you drop the motor in with a trans on it. Just motor, probably would go.

Engine Report

Hello Aaron,
Any feedback on that new engine from the Colorado event?
Thanks

I was parked next to you in the red Camaro during the Motorstate Challenge Autocross day.

It's Paul, right?
yes, the motor is AWESOME. The 5400 ft elevation we were at wasn't the best for making power. The Holley efi did adjust, but with less air, it's still down on power...felt like 75-100 less. Now that I'm back in MI, and put the tune back in that was there before we left, its all back to normal awesomeness! It blows the tires off at 45mph in second gear with a throttle roll on. I keep trying to see if it will hook, but it never does :D

Hope you are enjoying that beautiful camaro the Dutchboys built you!

65_LS1_T56 08-13-2015 09:57 AM

There are a few pics from USCA at Pike's Peak International Raceway last weekend. Had a blast making the trip from MI to CO with Tom and Deb Farrington. We both were representing Jet-Hot, what a great company, big thanks to Frank Cottone!

Didn't do too shabby either, ended up 4th in GTV behind Jake Rozelle, James Shipka, and Tom in third. Good company to be with!

That last pic is an awesome shot. That had to be fun.

I do notice that there is something red on the front of the Camaro. I think it may be a towhook?

I also notice that the Chevelle doesn't have one. Are they only required for Camaros?:underchair:

I can answer that ... that's the transponder tie wrapped to Efrain's tow hook!

Aaron ... those are some nice pics! Glad you and the gang made the trip and the g'velle is running well back home, this altitude does mess with an engine and sometimes people, lol.

See you next year fer sure!

Michael

Bill, Chevelles do not need them...they have big ole HD bumpers

Thanks, it was nice to meet you, glad you liked the "show". Tom and I had a great time out there. Beautiful country for sure!

Is your car done yet? :underchair:

We did Herb. Excellent. Too short trip:track time ratio though. 50 hours of trip time in 4 days

Good memory you got there! Or maybe you remember because you had Paul x 2 hanging out at the autocross that day, and the other Paul got a ride in the Vette.
Congrats on the new engine and it should really transform the car and take it to another level on the fun meter.
Yes, the Camaro is very nice, to the point that it's somewhat challenging for me to beat on it at the track. Should have left it in primer and I would have had a true track car.
I've been looking at various LS3 motors, which was why I asked about your Mast motor because I have a 67 Chevelle that needs an LS engine.

Take Care!

Well, to be honest, when I started my project I wanted to do the whole body and paint thing then do the mechanicals. Glad I didn't. I've had so much fun with it, not freaking out about a scratch or chip in the paint. I still cringe a bit everytime I peel a sticker off and some of the 50 year old lacquer comes off with it though.

So far very happy with the Mast motor. If you are interested, I know of a great dealer that would be glad to help you out! PM me if interested.

Ohio Musclecar Challenge 2015

As usual, one of the best events we go to. Bob Bertleson puts on a fantastic event that gets better each year. Grateful to be able to take both the Chevelle and the wife's Corvette this year. Both performed well with no issues. We call that a win.

The Mast motor is truly amazing. I went 14 mph faster than last year..consistently hitting 135 on the front straight. It feels like I'm getting rear-ended :)

A few videos of the Chevelle on course. Feel free to leave constructive criticism. I appreciate all the tips I can get.

SSLance 08-24-2015 07:30 PM

lol at Dan!

Only advice I can give you Aaron is to rig up a mount inside the car, preferably on the harness bar between the seats...to put your GoPro. I'd much rather see what's going on inside the car and through the windshield than listen to wind noise outside the car.

Otherwise, good job man! No matter what Dan says...

*still waiting on Grandma videos to surface

I didn't have my go pro with me. I wasn't worried about taking video, more worried about getting the car to do what I needed it to do. Someone asked to put a camera on the car, and they put it on the rear looking back. Not sure who it was.

65_LS1_T56 09-20-2015 06:43 PM

Had a little fun this weekend with a cool local bunch called the Furrin Group, as in "foreign" cars lol. I've raced with them in the past and had a blast. They can't believe the big American cars can get thru the cones, especially tight courses set up for Miatas and Subarus. Made a few believers out of them! Putting a video up now, I'll post a link when its done. Finished 11th out of 69 cars in all classes by raw time. Lot's of cars on R compounds and slicks.

These were just a few pics. They posted 90 of my car and 60 some of the Vette. If you are on Facebook they are here:

One of my runs, not my best. The camera died during the best one. Of course.

SSLance 09-20-2015 06:54 PM

That looks like a crazy course... How many runs did you get on it and how many until you could find your way through without getting lost?

Love it when a good old 'merican car kicks butt where it shouldn't, congrats. How'd Jill do in the G-vette?

It was hard to get at first walking it. They have the same layout every year I guess, so it was only hard for us that hadn't been before.

I got a total of 4 runs. Never got lost, but took it easy the first run. Not sure if you could tell, but I ran first gear the whole way. Nice with a 7000 rpm limit, which it hits a few times.

Jill did OK, she's learning it all. Just needs to be a bit more aggressive I think. She definitely gets the line and such, just needs to learn what the car is capable of. At LS Fest, I went about 2.5 secs faster in the Vette than she did, so she's not that far off. I'm probably 2+ slower than a good driver in it as well.

No secrets here, 500# front, 175# rear. According to almost everyone, I should be way higher. I'm running a Speedway splined 1.5 hollow front bar and a 3/4 rear Hellwig chassis mounted bar too.

:thankyou:

SSLance 09-21-2015 04:57 AM

1.5" OD, .75 ID...so that'd be 3/8" wall
