Looks great! Glad you've made good progress.
|
The old girl is looking good . :G-Dub:
Thanks rick k:king: |
nice work
|
Looks awesome, Ryan! At this rate I think you'll be driving your car before I'm driving mine..
|
Coming along nice... the fab work looks great
|
Awesome build man and love the stance. By the way what is the finish on those Fikses?
|
Any updates, Ryan??

Picked up some new steering parts a while back to make the car easier to move. I threw the IROC steering box and linkage in the car. The Hotchkis tie rod adjusters look to be well made.

Here she is leaving the house headed for my dad's shop. He called me after he got home and was laughing at me for how sad I looked while he pulled out of the driveway. :)

I finished welding up the rear end and made a drain plug. Needs some brake line brackets and its ready for paint.

Rather than slotting the track bar holes as I initially planned my dad had a better idea to mill offset holes. Here's a pic of the mock up.

Here's the drain plug. I ground and welded a thick washer offset from the bottom to hopefully save the bolt head from hitting something. After it was welded up we drilled the final hole size and tapped the hole for a drain bolt.

It's hard to believe the cars been sitting like this for 3 months. I just recently found time to work on it again.

No new pics so far this week. Just figuring out how I want to run the brake lines and what fittings I need. Also trimming up and boxing in the rear crossmember to be ready for final weld up of the track bar mount.

My dad finished up the subframe connector ties. They're ready to be welded to the connectors. He made them out of 3/16 and drilled and tapped 2 fine thread 3/8x3/4 bolts on each side. He drilled the tie and subframe together so the holes are exact.
http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/...38891584FF.jpg A few brake line clips and removal of the old ford clip and the rear end will be ready for primer. http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/...CE6A79CC07.jpg |

Sorry it took so long. I ended up having to get ahold of Will. I couldn't remember. |
Not to many exciting updates or pictures lately. Got the upper 4-link pockets welded on the bottom and tying up some loose ends to prep for paint on the bottom side of the body. Hoping to shift gears and work on the top side again soon.

WOW... Subscribed... I TRIED TO WATCH THE SUPERBOWL BUT I WAS OCCUPIED READING YOUR THREAD....
THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO ON INSTALLING THE SHEETMETAL... |

I tried to watch the Super Bowl but kept wanting to throw something at the TV! I suffered through watching my Broncos lose. I wish more players beside Peyton Manning and Wes Welker showed up. No way to win with no defense, terrible O line, no running game and no open receivers. Got to hand it to the Hawks.. They played well. Especially defense. Enough of that.. Back to cars! |
Car's coming along rather nicely! I especially like your avatar of the car. You'll be painting it in no time at the rate your going.

Still finishing up odds and ends. Nothing new or exciting to post. I picked up some flat bar and square stock to make some weld on brake line mounts. I couldn't find anything on the internet so this is what it came down to.

My iPhone panoramic view isn't quite cutting it. The pictures come out jagged and grainy.
I'm happy with how the rear end and 4-link turned out. Everything seems to be measuring out as planned so far. I need to recheck in relation to the center of the front sub frame making sure the entire car is square before I weld the sub frame connector ties in for good. It's also time for sway bars! http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/...EBBF58A9EF.jpg |
looking good but one suggestion is you might want to add a few more holes to that PHB mount bracket

Here's a better view of the holes. http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/...3791C03E-1.jpg |
I don't know how I missed this thread! And a fellow NorthWetner as well!
Great work.. and a lot of it! I just went from page one.... and my first thought to myself was "why do guys always start out with such clapped out shells...." Because it usually turns out to be way over the guys head... but by golly you've knocked it out! Very impressed with your fab work and planning. Kudos to you! Now -- stick an LS motor in there! LOL |

Thanks Gregweld. I follow you guys bantering back and forth along with all the great stories and awesome car projects. It's very entertaining and keeps me motivated! I'm also a hotrod guy so I can appreciate your perspective. We used to run an Enderle injected SBC 34 Ford coupe in B Gas. It's one of my favorite cars and hope to build a 33 or 34 some day. Northwetner is right. I'm ready for some sunshine. My priorities are still with my kids until they are both out of college so I had to start with something relatively cheap and work my way up. Believe me, more than once I've wished I could have gone out and picked up a nice car like Flash68 Dave did and make it my own from there.. Although Dave has just about rebuilt the whole thing now :D I'd like to put a LS motor in it but my daughters tuition and books dictate otherwise. |

You are kickin butt man. Keep rockin it and stay focused. You seem to really have a nice balanced plan. And no, please don't put an LS in it. :D |

The LS is appealing to me as I intend to put a lot of miles on this thing :) |

Hey -- You know if you've read my posts -- I was teasing. I totally get it. Dave "flash" who?? Does he have a Camaro? <rubbing my eyes trying to focus> |
Quote:
:) :flashie: No kidding.. Even though Dave gets heckled for only 2 hours of seat time in 3 cars that's two 2 more hours than me. :ohsnap: Although.. Yeah, I think he's building a car of tomorrow. |

Slow and steady. Nothing exciting to post as I'm going through my punch list trying to get ready for body work. I ordered Corbeau GTS II seats from Kim at Matt's last week. I also ordered a NRG hub, quick release and Momo Tuner steering wheel so I can figure out my column. (Thanks to info from Vince and Sieg I now know what will fit)!!
I got the dash bolted in but I need to order a windshield and test fit before I can weld it. The steering wheel location won't really change so I can now mock that up. I just want to make sure the bottom windshield seal surface is correct before I weld it. http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/...B1A03A354E.jpg |
Great work! Looks amazing and coming along well.

My head was touching the roof with the Corbeau seat brackets, sliders, and GTS II seats. I decided to cut the tabs off the brackets to move them down to the seat pan, back, and toward the tunnel 3/4 of an inch.
http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/...7955885AC3.jpg http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/...3606F84D21.jpg It took a little work to be able to mount the brackets tight to the pan in the front and up 3/16 in the rear while allowing room for the bolts. http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/...4796CA0A5D.jpg http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/...BA75686A02.jpg http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/...E11FB44B42.jpg http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/...1CDA0DA61A.jpg |
