Looks great!!

Kerry

Well, we came up with a very elegant solution Kerry...you'll have to check it out this weekend. Couldn't be simpler. Not something that you could incorporate into the Chevelle though.

Appreciate it Chris! Sure get a lot of looks and thumbs up. Hope to just get thru the weekend with it, mainly to learn a few things. We ended up getting another spot so we are dual registered..nothing like beating it like a rented mule the first weekend :lostmarbles:

Dad and I fixed a few things on the Elco this weekend . We then took it on its first trip that we felt we could beat on it . Wound up getting it sideways a few times , made the tires rub a lot on the inner fender wells and spewed some coolant in my buddies driveway after flogging it a bit to hard . I thought beating on it like a rented mule was why we built these things :)

Hope things go well for you !

Lol, yes that is why we build them. Wish I had at least a few hundred miles on it. But hey, I did the same thing with the Chevelle...had just over a hundred miles and took it to the Motorstate Challenge. Went over 110 at Gingerman, ran countless autox runs, did the cruise and came back in one piece! Hope we have similar luck. Thanks Mike.

b757jetdr 05-26-2015 09:52 PM

Well good luck this weekend Aaron! I was hoping to cruise over and hang out for awhile but I just noticed the event is Friday and Saturday. I have to work both days, was planning to come out on Sunday.
Maybe I can catch up with all you guys at NCM event if your all there, and maybe even catch a ride:rolleyes:

Have fun this weekend!

DavidBoren 05-27-2015 07:07 AM

Your trick billet air filter turned out great. Very cool.

syborg tt 05-27-2015 07:10 AM

Wow I just read this entire thread and what an awesome project. I hope to make it out on Saturday to see the car in person.

I'm not sure about NCM as it's the following weekend. MIS is planned and Motorstate in July. Thanks Chris.

If it wasnt the following weekend, maybe. MMC is 6 hrs each way, NCM is 9...plus, they are pretty much the same way. Good luck, the track is killer. We did parade laps at LS Fest last year.

65_LS1_T56 06-01-2015 03:16 AM

Well, first event has been completed. Successfully at that! With just over a 100 miles before getting there, we only had a few little issues, mostly self induced :innocent: Nothing bad, no damage and never went off track. Literally the gas pedal fell apart...I was sure I tightened all that stuff, so maybe a little loctite is in order. Anyway other than that, we had an amazing weekend with friends at the Midwest Musclecar Challenge.

We dual registered it so it was literally running back to back road course sessions. Took it like a champ, bud did get a little warm one session as I may have been pushing it a little hard :D

At the end of the day at Punam Park, I was 7th in the intermediate group with a 1:24.4 lap hitting 120mph at the end of the front straight. Oh, and that is exactly 3 secs/lap faster than I was last year in the Chevelle with the same motor. Must be the 500 lbs less weight...

On to pics: John with Forgeline took some pics of the car, I snapped this while he was taking his.
http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/...psmqcesftw.jpg

Great guy, Scott Knick was there with his cool flared 65. Looks like they were seperated at birth
http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/...psl3ouoqjd.jpg

This is Jill on the grid for her very first time on a roadcourse behind the wheel. She had a great time and a very good instructor!
http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0lgvsqq0.jpg

Her instructor, Mr. Corvette Danny Popp

Guys at Ridetech snapped this on the autox on Saturday
http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/...psprbgasls.jpg

And to top the weekend off, we both came back with some hardware!! Yeah, Jill was a sponsor pic for Royal Purple and I got the (another) Ridetech Renegade award...very humbled by that. Got one with the Chevelle and now one with the Vette. Very huge thanks to Bret and the gang at Ridetech, super group of people.

Close up of the trophies

So we put a very large "1" in the Win column this weekend. Great weekend, great event, great people to hang out with...still buzzin :headspin:

Nice smooth driving! Making it look easy! Going to need to go for a ride in this thing one day! Congrats to you and Jill for getting it done and having a blast!

Paraman1 06-01-2015 05:38 PM

Looks like a real hoot and she was passing some pretty high dollar builds so that should make you feel good . Of course watching Farrington blow by you ought to give you some motivation to get your motor into G-Velle ;)

fxdlryan 06-02-2015 04:30 AM

Great showing Aaron and Jill.

Thanks Brian, yes the IRS (even as crappy of a design this is) definitely soaks up the track. The transitions from left to right were incredibly smooth and very planted.
We are heading to Lingenfelter Cars and Coffee this Saturday morning, then on to CARS Inc. for their show. You should come out.

That was me doing the passing :) She did very well, and was picking up speed each session. She did hit 110 with Danny coaching her.

Amazing to watch the guy ahead of you for 5 minutes - he never once got within 10 feet of an apex...

Organizers should see that and pull him to the side and give him an instructor before he hurts himself. Then he points you by but stays in the throttle... SMH. A point by should be given WITH a lift of the throttle. Get the pass done quickly. It's not a drag race to the corner where both are then off line.

Glad to see the Vette performed so well and trouble free!! Looks like a blast.

You have much more patience than I would have shown him.....

Chad-1stGen 06-02-2015 11:20 AM

Aaron, I saw you post the video in the vid and pic thread. Looks like a blast. I also wondered about the Camaro driver not giving the point by and then not lifting. Maybe he missed the fact there are not any driver talent scouts at these things ready to employ folks as a driver...

Anyhow I hadn't checked in on this thread in a while (think the last time you were doing donuts in the dark lol?) and was happy to see you guys getting to drive it in an event.

Car looks great!

Flash68 06-02-2015 11:22 AM

What a jackwagon. I would only do that to a good good friend. :D

Car looks great Aaron!

Here's to hoping/assuming you enjoyed a quality beer afterward.

Unfortunately, I felt like I was blocking a great friend, Tom. I got over as soon as I could for him but felt bad.

Actually it was 3

I had a guy doing that to me at an event a few years ago. I was in my C5 and he was in a late-model TransAm. I was really trying to focus on the right line, braking points etc. -- - This guy would just about lose it in every corner, then drag race down the straights (he could outpull me in the straights). Every corner I would have to avoid hitting him.

Thankfully he was spoken to about it after that session and moved to a different group. It was frustrating.

I need to get my car done so that I can come play again!

The Vette is awesome! When is her Birthday? - - she'll be asking for a Mast engine!! ;)

A lift's not necessary if you're driving a stock Miata.......just say'n. :sieg:

Scott Haggai 06-02-2015 03:48 PM

cool build!

65_LS1_T56 06-18-2015 04:59 AM

After some deliberation (in hindsight, should've done it from the beginning ), we decided to go big on the front tires. With a call to the awesome Forgeline company, new 1" wider outer shells were ordered. Then a few messages and calls later to friends, Larry Woo hooked us up with a set of gently worn Falken 315s.
So we're now on a 315 square setup. Love the new look. Hope it helps with the low speed push it had.

Sonar Chief 06-18-2015 07:21 PM

Been watching this one... very nice! Question: did I see 11 1/2" rim on the front w 315's? MY Camaro will have 315's square also and was gonna go w 11" rims. I saw Mary's 73 w 12" rims and 315 Falkens on the rear .... hmmmm?

Just thinking a out loud and wondered what size the rim should be for 315's, is there much difference in side wall height? :thankyou:

Michael

Yeah, and there's room for 335's out back..maybe for the next motor it'll need them.

Yes, it's a lot of fun. Its not right yet, but I'm hoping to make some spring rate changes to help that. Still has a mid to exit corner push. Also, the knock back is horrible. Makes it that much harder to drive aggressively. We'll get it, just need to change some things.

Thanks Trey.
