Thank you and sorry for the late response, seems like I turn around and two weeks are missing.

Thanks, Cal.

Looking good, Cal! You've chosen some serious hardware. I'm excited to see this car compete.

Thank you. I've been fortunate and have had a lot of great input from lots of great people and builders. Members of this site have provided valuable info as well. I can't wait to get it running and get on the track. I'm guessing the car will be capable, let's HOPE the driver is!!!! Lol

Thanks, Cal

I'm Back

Well, ive found new life and some time to work on the car again. I brought the car home, the whole nose is here and I just got my dash. I had a friend in Spokane pick up some chromoly tube and we're going to build a skeleton to mount everything. I unloaded it this morning so hopefully in the next month I will have it ready to tear down and start prepping for paint.

I'm using chromoly tube for my core support and to mount my fenders, rs nose and bumpers. I figured I have taken this much time to be "weight conscious" I better use chromoly. What do you think?

Sure, you can go with smaller, lighter tube by using ChroMoly.

Then again, that stuff doesn't really see any real impact, etc, so why use something so expensive. Thin wall HREW would hold it just fine, I think.

I get using ChroMoly in roll cage that protects you, but in this use case, it's just supporting weight, right?

Pretty much. I'm probably going overboard but I've pretty much went overboard since I started the project. Lol

Might as well be consistent!!!

Thanks, Cal

If you are planning to build your cage to pass tech, check the rules first.

1.750 .120 wall tubing is usually the norm in a rule book. Using ChroMo will be pointless as it will not offer a weight savings.

Back At It!!!

I'm pretty sure I will make this the longest build ever!!! But, I've managed to get some time in on the car and it always gives you a momentum boost when you see progress. I've spent many hours fine tuning the Ultimate Products fiberglass just so I can bolt pieces down and open and close doors!!! It's not terrible but it's been fairly labor intensive getting things to fit. Never the less, I've made progress and hope to push on.

Hood looks like it will fit with some massaging as well.

x2 glad to know you're still making progress slow or not. I really dig this build. Good luck with it!

Thanks. I hate to make a plan on when I'll be ready for paint but hopefully I will keep plugging away and have it painted before October. We will see.

Thanks again, Cal

Raised floor panels.

Hi, im in the process of raising my floor pans, for exhaust clearance. Just wondering if you used 20 gauge or 18 gauge metal?

Thanks, Sandro

I used both. It has some 18 gauge bracing and flanging but the actual beaded pan is 20 gauge. Plenty solid.

Hey guys, not to change the thread focus but I thought I would share a couple pics of my latest project. My father in law and I suffer from lack of focus and this is another project we had to have. I will start another thread with the build, should be cool!!!

Chuck,

My father in law is a table fanatic!!! That's the second set of those tables he's built. He also built a small rolling table for engines and a nice stand for his bandsaw. All powder coated his favorite red. I can send you dimensions if you want?

Cal

CamarosRus 12-05-2016 06:47 PM

Cal, I can SEE and figure out the 1 1/2" or 2" legs/frame......but curious to read how the top was made and top attached /welded to frame.....

Thanks

Dropped into this thread......Any updates on this build?

Mac&Otto 12-04-2018 04:18 PM

I'm back!! I'm tearing it apart now and sending it to the painter. I'm going to get the interior painted, the bottom coated and the firewall painted. Then I will hang all the suspension and install the drivetrain. Should see some updated pics soon. I'm near completion on the Nomad Ive been working on and had to finish up a couple projects including a dirt track car for our local area. Sorry for the delay but it took me a while to catch up.

Thanks, Cal

WSSix 12-05-2018 06:05 PM

Glad you're still working on it. Can't wait to see some update pictures.

I’m not sure if anyone remembers the Nomad my father in law and I have been building, but here is a couple pictures. Earlier in the thread, there is a couple of pictures of it in bare metal. A good friend of mine, Shawn McNally, in Nampa, Idaho painted the car and it’s beautiful. He has a full paint shop and does fantastic work. This has ate up all my car time but is headed for interior in 2 weeks. Now it’s back to the Camaro!!
